After watching the Le Mans last weekend I am really looking forward to do a proper endurance race again in a few weeks time when I have some more time. Biggest issue is to find your constant lap time and to match that to the AI to some extent.

Love me some endurance racing, always looking for an excuse to do it. I might do a just-for-fun 3-4 hour deal in something slow and silly after the Ring ends next Sunday morning.

I'm not sure how much endurance racing you do, just a reminder that it still always really comes down to challenging yourself, basically. You can do a bunch of test sessions with the AI to get a good feel for the pace and hopefully stint length of the cars you're trying to compete with(and I always recommend doing that), but until you've run the same endurance race a time or two you really can't be sure what's going to happen. Whether it's pCARS, rFactor, Gran Turismo, any game I've tried... something always pops up you weren't expecting, be it AI pace, your pace, damage, weather, pit strategies, fatigue setting in late, whatever.

That's half the fun of endurance simracing, but it also means you can't take it too seriously or you may lose sight of the fun factor. However perfectly I get it balanced beforehand... sometimes I'm in a great class battle, sometimes I'm making a higher class look stupid, sometimes I'm desperately trying to chase down a slower class leader(or the last running car :grumpy:) with a few minutes to go in the race. :)

One thing I'd recommend for anybody that doesn't already use it is this app from the PC2 forum:
http://forum.projectcarsgame.com/showthread.php?56777-quot-Custom-Random-Weather-Automator-quot
Apparently it was originally designed for PS4, I use it on PC(don't think it works for Xbox sadly) and it spices your race weekends up beautifully. There is another more elegant solution in the works for trying to get truly real-world weather but that's a lot more complex. This one temporarily takes over your control input which is a little creepy at first, but it's a simple deal as long as you don't start it in the wrong place. You tell it what percentages of weather you want and what types you absolutely don't want and then how many clicks to get down to the "save and continue" button and then look away while it sets up believable weather that you can't see coming beyond the first slot. I just wish you could have more than 4 slots for really long races.

Another recommendation is to consider turning off penalties. You know if you're breaking the rules and if it bothers you, then don't do it or self-penalize when you accidentally do. Getting disqualified 4 hours into a race for unintentional corner cuts that slowed you down(or for idiot bots doing idiot bot things) sucks. If you use Bob you have to worry about him getting DQ'ed too. I have only run a couple enduros in pC2 so far, but both of those things were big issues in pC1(as was Bob running out of gas, I hope they've fixed that... he was okay the one time I used him). I'd like to think pC2 is better about those things, but I'm leery of finding out the hard way.

So, disconnecting the internet on my PS4 should prevent any updates or ckeckups from happening?

The only reason I use the internet is to access the Store and watch YouTube. Nothing for online gaming.

Yeah that should be the case. Best do both methods, turn off the rest mode auto updates and then disconnect when you need to. If it can't get any patches it can't apply them.

Have you heard of this before IfAndOr?
No. Seems like a clever idea for longer races (if you can avoid sneaking a peek :)).
Forgot to quote..
Did you get over excited? :P

Well, giving it another go with internet disconnected and the appropriate settings turned off on Rest Mode. This time, I'm hitting Daytona (it's my favorite 24 race to watch). Not much progress, but hopefully everything goes well.

I’ve never really played PCars 2 properly, I tended to just do time trails on Cali Highway. I’ve started a GT4 career and something is really flummoxing me.

Hard Slicks are unusable. The cars slides all over the place, it’s like there’s no heat in the tyres. I have less grip than with wet tyres when it’s raining. I have no such problem with Soft Slicks.

It doesn’t feel like a slight loss of grip, the Hard Slicks feel broken.

Any ideas?

@Morgoth_666 I have some experience with endurance races, depending on what you classify as one. I have done quite some 2 to 3 hours races but not much of longer length. Perhaps I should extent my practice to get a better idea of my approximate lap time.

Another thing I thought of was to run the races beforehand en see how many laps the AI do to determine their average lap time. In previous races I had the idea that the AI slowed down a lot more due to pit stops and backmarkers / overtakers.

I've turned penalties off all the time as I found them way more annoying then beneficial and I'm disciplined enough to punish myself if I make a mistake that benefits me.

Regarding the weather app you have to run remote control on your pc / laptop to control your PS4 if I'm correct, unfortunately Windows 10 is required for that so I have no device that's able to take over my PS4

Oh, that's too bad. I only have the game on PC so I don't really know how the app works with PS4, just that it was originally made with the console version in mind. It seems to be a nice little tool.

I think the AI is a bit worse than I am at dealing with slower/faster class traffic, but doesn't seem to be as bad as in the last game. They definitely lose time on the way into the pits but I don't know if they might make it up somewhat on the pitstops themselves.

Running a simulated race while you're doing other things seems like a pretty decent idea if they run the same pace with or without you(one way to find out) and you have the time. I've generally in the past run a couple of races-as-practice sessions to try to see when they make their first stops as sometimes they go on a different schedule to you. Of course if some run different fuel strategies than others it makes that a lot harder to get a feel for. And if they run over an hour per fuel load it means you're waiting a long time.

Good luck!

It will take probably a month until I have enough time on one day to do it so I have some time to practice and do some shorter simulations. Usually I can run quite constant lap times after somewhere between 1 and 2 hours of practice. My qualifying lap on the other hand varies way more in general.

Perhaps I'll run a random weather generator and let someone else do the input without knowing. Other option is that assuming the AI has less effect from the weather create a little catch up race by putting a rain slot in the first or second slot.

Anyway it's a shame I have too much stuff going on in the next few weeks but it will be worth the wait once i'll be able to put more time in the game again. This reason alone stopped me from pre-ordering F1 2019, which I'll buy eventually mostly to do the occasional race with my personal friends.

Another question I thought of recently, with the ability to create a custom online championship with 1 online person and fill with AI. Can you adjust the calendar (date and time and possibly tracks) of this championship and start races without the friend being in the race? If that could work you could basically create your custom championship as long as you are online.

I had an idea but realized that it wouldn't work.

I thought that I could use my Vita to connect with my PS4 and continue the race, but I think to do that I need internet :P

This game takes forever to install on the main menu once you download it. It has been over 90 minutes already.
It's about 40GB without DLC so yes will take a while depen

What are the tacks temps? Hard tyres don't work well on a cold track.

BradleyLove: Is it the BMW GT4? That's a difficult car to drive imo, I never liked it. And some hard tyres are also difficult, at least for me. Try with softs, but be careful not to overheat them.
There's plenty of setup advices at the official forum, check for blinkngone's setup threads. Here a link to one of them regarding BMW GT4:

It’s the Cayman. And thanks, will have a look at that.

3 1/2 hours in at Daytona. Besides a few spins from locking the brakes, I am doing good. I couldn't remember what time the race started IRL, so I had it set to 1600, which sounded close. Now I'm in the night portion of the race, my favorite part :)

Man every year I watch the N24 and Le Mans 24 and wonder what will it take to get full grid Le Mans and Nürburg on console games. More like the SMS Studio since they’re the only company I have faith in to do it especially because of content. Even if we could somehow get back 45 cars on Le Mans and 55 on Nürburg would be fine with me.

@TheoSkullz12
I wonder this, too. I don't expect this to be achievable next gen, but the big jump in CPU power with the zen cores should help a lot. I wonder what the SSD will provide for racing games, aswell.

I would assume that a jump from 32 to 48 is possible, but of course nothing is certain. We can only hope and i personally hope that 60 will be possible

Cant believe this game just did this again :banghead: 2 hour race against the ai in monza oval classic 15 minutes to go i had to pit for fuel the second place car is only 20 seconds behind, and not needing repairs to my car i turn repairs off BUT no they hit me with engine failure 🤬 out of no where pretty much killing my race  Second time this happens.

I'm done with racing in this game i'll stick to practice laps

Just turn off mechanical damage & have fun fella :)

As stated, just turn off mechanical failures. Not to sound smart but you literally leave the door open for a failure with the option enabled - I run with that off as well as no terminal damage (the exact wording escapes me off the top of my head). I don't like the way the game leaves broken wheels and bits of car out on the track after accidents when IRL it would be picked up under caution. It only makes sense when running classic cars as cautions were barely used back in those days.
