Is the version of the game these reviewers the "gold" version with the day 1 patch?
Yes.

I mean, supposedly. That's why we waited until today to have reviews.

Also, on that first video from this morning, the reviewer specifically mentioned that.

Impressive list and scores!! I often use Metacritic as a source for scores. --> http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/project-cars-2 (also PS4 average of 89/100).

We really liked the first game and the coverage that we had for so many months back then clearly showed that, but it's also probably why we are so disappointed this time around.

On the plus side

+ Pretty good-looking game in gameplay
+ Cars look great
+ Excellent engine sounds
+ Damages are pretty well done
+ Varied types of motosports
+ Many tracks to drive on
+ Dynamic weather system, day/night cycle, seasons
+ 180 cars is quite honest
+ Ferrari and Lamborghini are in
+ Rallycross, is cool
+ 1440p on PS4 Pro
+ Better performance overall
+ HDR compatible on consoles
+ The driving model remains solid
+ Much better with a gamepad than in PCARS 1
+ Some of the tracks have a snowy version

On the downside

- The game can be frustrating
- The AI can be a major pain in the neck
- Collisions aren't always the best
- Driving on snow/ice/rain might be too demanding for some
- No new Point A to B stages
- A sort of Project CARS 1.5 vibe technically
- Cars leave no marks on dirt or snow
- Tearing on PS4 Pro and a few occasional frame drops
- Environnements look a bit dated now
- The flickering of shadows can be distracting
- Why can't we choose to hear the engineer's voice in the TV speakers?
- Manual wipers aren't assigned to any button by default
- So many possible things you can assigns, and so few buttons
- Tyre sound is way too loud by default
- Latency in menus and long, long, long loading times
- Could have used a bit more polish
- Some bugs, some of which were already there in the first game
- 30 fps replays, why not, but they could look better

This is the problem with some outlets, kind of the half full half empty glass approach.

Are we really concern about those things?

To me it´s kind of embarrassing that you can´t judge the game for what is trying to do (being a simulator of racing) and then they start picking things that are completely irrelevant (that you have to map manual wipers) or that are not an issue because the game offers options to change it (like tire screeching noises).

Maybe i´m just picking on gamersyde, but it´s never a complain like "this car is lapping this track two seconds faster than in real life", or "tires are getting 2g more forces than it should", it´s never about the racing, it´s always these little details that only matter for 1% or less of the audience.

I've added all the links to the OP, so it is up to date with all reviews posted so far.

As for me, the only reviews I care about are the one's I'm getting from my CanAm VRL league members who have played the game.
They only have good things to say and that is good enough for me.

we'll make sure to ship you all more controller buttons next game ;)

Its not my review ;) I just linked it but personally I think there are too many settings and buttons and the bottom list they are nit picking. The game looks great in the videos.

One thing that did stand out is them saying no tracks left on Dirt or snow? I thought I have seen on many videos tyre (tire) tracks in the snow and dirt?

He's also saying in the comments section that the sweep under cars from PCars 1 is still an issue.

I agree with those that are saying that many of these reviewers are seemingly not understanding what they are actually reviewing. For me, it's the reviews from site such as Top Gear that I listen to, who had this to say.
That breakthrough regards the handling for this sim sequel, which has come alive since we last got our paws on it. Cars now dance on the limit of grip, rather than snapping irritably at it, making it much more feasible to find and play with that drivable oversteer sweet spot. Unlike the previous game, it’s also now perfectly playable on humble joypad thumbsticks without having to roll your sleeves up and dig three pages deep into the arcane settings menus.

With those fundamentals finally nailed down, you’re left to enjoy a roster of cars and tracks so generous that Slightly Mad should probably apply for charitable status. Whatever your particular vehicular kink, it’s probably represented here, from the so-called holy trinity of hypercars all the way back to classic ’50s Le Mans sportscars. Combine that with 130 individual circuit layouts and more varieties of weather than there are on your phone’s weirdly comprehensive emoji keyboard and you’ve got the makings of the ultimate automotive toybox.
They understand cars and what driving them at the limit should feel like. Surely as racing game fans the above is what is important to us?

Agree, wasn't mocking you. Just found that one humorous. Actually, I _believe_ wipers can automatically turn on/off during race. So it is not necessary to map this function unless you fidget a lot with wipers/lights (as I tend to in real life, drives my wife nuts). On an XB1 controller I map Gear Shift Up/Down, Headlamps, Pit Limiter, Camera change and Look Back. This is good enough for my (casual) races, ICM menu can handle the rest for me.

Yes it is quite annoying but to be expected that's, for the general gamer though it's probably accurate. Any serious racing game player won't be comparing this to Forza, sure Forza has the polish and as a game is better but for any serious racing with real rules, practice, qualifying etc. it's pretty poor, they aren't really comparable.

I can enjoy racing games from NFS to Automobilsta, it's my favourite genre my first racing game was Lotus Challenge on the Amiga and then GT was my first 'sim' and I've not looked back since, I just don't get why people insist on sticking to one and denouncing all others.

Some of these are so vague and the positives could take 5 minutes to find with a human with a brain and the ability to Google.

I agree, but it still bugs me, because i´m also into sports, and i´ve never seen people using NBA Jam to compare or as a matter of fact, just a mention of this title when reviewing NBA 2K.

In some genres it´s very clear what is it, and what isn´t.

For some reason in racing games there´s a needless will to compare things that aren´t comparable, or to complain about things that are just facts or real life.

When someone says "brakes are not strong" without any context in reality their complain should be directed to God or nature in general.

My take on those points. (This is not a direct reply to you, but just a response to the info you posted)

Almost all of these can be eliminated or minimized with optimizations and future updates. From what I've seen, none of these issues compromises the experience. Having said that, I need to see how the online lobbies and stability works out.

I don't care about these:

+ 1440p on PS4 Pro - I don't care as I play on the first generation PS4.
+ Much better with a gamepad than in PCARS 1 - I don't care as I have a wheel now.

- The game can be frustrating - I'm used to Dark Souls
- The AI can be a major pain in the neck - I don't care. Pretty much every game suffers from some AI issues. I plan to play more online.
- Collisions aren't always the best - Still the best we've seen on consoles I guess. Also, I'll avoid collisions at all costs.
- Driving on snow/ice/rain might be too demanding for some - Cool! Driving with these conditions shouldn't be easy.
- No new Point A to B stages
- A sort of Project CARS 1.5 vibe technically - For me is the first PC so, cool.
- Cars leave no marks on dirt or snow - Not that important and can be easily fixed I guess
- Why can't we choose to hear the engineer's voice in the TV speakers?
- Manual wipers aren't assigned to any button by default - Easy to solve.
- 30 fps replays, why not, but they could look better

I agree all easily patched or sorted by your preferences. If it is your first entry into Project Cars on PS4 you will enjoy this game if you like cars and racing ;)👍

Honestly, as above I think if we went with static baked lighting we could do it, or close to it. I also agree they are epic looking. It does give us mixed motivations as a developer. Do we drop our totally dynamic 24 hour time of day and weather systems to allow us to nail properly photographic replays... ?? We've certainly discussed it a lot internally.

no.... No..... NOOOOOO !!!!!!!!! :)

(my personal opinion: I don't use replays so I don't even care about repaly flickering or funny replay fog windscreens)

One of the reviews I have read has said that the game is still a bit of a struggle on controller (Xbox).

Once the game is released, can some Xbox players please share their controller configurations?

I don't plan on playing this at launch, but I might give it a go when the Xbox One X is released and as I am a pad user I'd like to have that same "pick up and play" feeling I get from other racing games.

I bought the game for both consoles, XBox One (standard for now :P) and PS4 Pro. It's actually both the weakest and strongest console of the moment. And since I got a 4K HDR home theatre and 65" TV I will be able to give my thoughts on the HDR part as well. Both will be played with a controller (standard dualshock vs XBox One Elite). Will post some initial thoughts on friday or saturday.

The XBox one is digital, the PS4 is physical so I hope it arrives on time.

This guy has posted three xbox videos with a controller and doesn't look a struggle.

I know Johnson, raced with him plenty of times. He's much quicker than me though and can probably drive his way around sub-optimal settings
lol! Seems to be varying reports in the reviews I have read in terms of controller implementation. Many say it's been vastly improved while a few do say it's still too difficult. The problem is that we have no idea what the experience or skill levels of these reviewers are when it comes to driving games.

The only thing I really care about in reviews are the facts. This works, this doesn't work, this happened, that happened. The opinions are pretty much useless because they are from the perspective of the reviewer. They may or may not be into racing sims, they may have a favorite franchise, they may have a bone to pick or might be blind as to the faults of the game. Their perspective is always going to be skewed to one degree or another and one side or the other. So my advice is look for the facts, forget the opinions, and figure out what you want to do from there.
