lol! Seems to be varying reports in the reviews I have read in terms of controller implementation. Many say it's been vastly improved while a few do say it's still too difficult. The problem is that we have no idea what the experience or skill levels of these reviewers are when it comes to driving games.

aTTaX Johnson is a top Forza eSport player so if exterior camera's + controller gameplay impressions is what you are looking for then this guy is a great reference.

On most shots I can't see a difference as everything is moving too fast to keep track of, but the side by side shots to me just look like the PS4 Pro makes things a bit brighter and pop out.
Would be a bigger difference if it was a direct capture vid Youtube compression just kills these comparison videos.

Also a couple of PCars2 reviews in Dutch are available. Generic conclusion: also very positive. Especially about livetrack 3.0 and physics/ffb with wheel and/or controller.

And they are also talking about a 1.03 patch for console which became available today? This should solve some (possible) graphical glitches with shadow. Probably what was already discussed and described earlier in this thread?

For those who eagerly want some extra language challenge and like to play it hard:

Edges look a little sharper and crisper on the Pro as well. The whole thing just looks a little smoother. Fewer "jagged" lines on the edges mainly.

I nitpick a lot and I'm a stickler for details but I'm not sure I'm $400 of nitpicky

Those are the patch notes for the PS4:
  • Reenabled HDR.
  • Several enhancements and improvements to Career Mode.
  • Several enhancements and improvements to the in-game HUD.
  • Enhancements and improvements to Time Trial, Director and Broadcast modes.
  • Enhancements and improvements to Photo Mode.
  • Support for larger saved replays.
  • Several enhancements and improvements for online play.
  • Several enhancements and improvements to AI.
  • Smaller tweaks to Motorsport Presets, car handling, pit stops, vehicle graphics, rendering and special effects.

Yeah, I would agree with you. I'm not personally all that hung up on graphics. Handling and experience are far more important. In this case, I am on PC so it really doesn't affect me one way or the other.

Just wanted to confirm that while there may not be a HUGE difference, there is definitely a difference. Is it a difference that is worth $400? Not to me. There better be other features as well to justify that extra expense.

The price of a PS4 Pro is about the same price as a decently sized 4K TV (depending on the brand), so if you can only afford one like me it's best to upgrade the TV to 4K to get the most of out of your current PS4 and have it ready for when you plan to get a PS4 Pro.

In any case I'll wait until the Xbox One X release before deciding if it's worth my time. That should be plenty of time to get the post-launch bugs patched too ;)

Wrong
To play in a decent TV 4k you need a tv with HDR 10 BITS
Most of them are HDR PRO 8 BITS
The TV 4K HDR 10 BITS is a much more expansive tv but worth the money

The only thing I really care about in reviews are the facts. This works, this doesn't work, this happened, that happened. The opinions are pretty much useless because they are from the perspective of the reviewer. They may or may not be into racing sims, they may have a favorite franchise, they may have a bone to pick or might be blind as to the faults of the game. Their perspective is always going to be skewed to one degree or another and one side or the other. So my advice is look for the facts, forget the opinions, and figure out what you want to do from there.
GameSpot
"If rear-wheel-drive cars handled in real life the way they do in Enthusia, no one would ever buy one."

In terms of physics and handling (and controller playability), there are some GTPlanet members whose opinions I trust, but I still can't be completely certain of any sim until I play it for myself.

Fun fact: I just now figured out that the guy who wrote the GameSpot review for Enthusia is now Turn 10's community manager. Brian Ekberg.

I should have made it clear that I was referring to anonymous reviews on the internet. Of course, if you see a review from someone that you know and trust, it will definitely carry a great deal more weight and could easily influence a buying decision of mine as well.

Quick question for those who have this game already. Do you get to use all the cars (180 cars) in the game from the start or do you have to unlock and buy all the cars you want? Thanks!

I agree, but it still bugs me, because i´m also into sports, and i´ve never seen people using NBA Jam to compare or as a matter of fact, just a mention of this title when reviewing NBA 2K.

In some genres it´s very clear what is it, and what isn´t.

For some reason in racing games there´s a needless will to compare things that aren´t comparable, or to complain about things that are just facts or real life.

When someone says "brakes are not strong" without any context in reality their complain should be directed to God or nature in general.
I try to look at it positively, for one it makes it easy to know to disregard anything they say about physics as they clearly don't know what they are talking about and secondly anybody else who doesn't know how to drive will steer clear so less noobs crashing into everyone online ;).

Hopefully the rating system works so the latters not an issue anymore but I remain sceptical as the one Codemasters tried didn't work at all as it was too easy to change your rating and only separated serial rammers briefly. I think most people just have no idea how to race/overtake cleanly even if they aren't rammers so I'm curious how it handles that.

I got kicked out of a room in PCars the other night because I was driving defensive lines and getting rammed into from behind and then the host made a mistake allowing me to get just alongside driving on the far right, him on the far left and he tried to swerve across to take racing line hit the front of my car with his backend and spun off and they all acted like I was taking people out . It will be seriously annoying if PCars 2 counts that as me causing a collision even though I was driving in a straight line minding my own business.

These reviews mean nothing to me. I'm not the type of guy that will buy a game based off the reviewers experience with the game. I gotta play it for myself and see what's the experience is like for me. At the end of the day as long as the game is fun and has longevity and also everything is working right out of the box then im happy. I don't care how the trees look and how slightly off something is that really doesn't matter. I just wanna have fun with the game. People are so nitpicky nowadays and it seems like they forget the reason to buy a game is to have fun with it. Not point out every single freaking detail about it. Anyway im buying the game and I look forward to playing it.

I think if we dropped 'everything dynamic' we could get close but I agree they are masters in this area. Think back to the last totally dynamic GT (I think it was 5) and check out the shadow frustum artefacts in replay. When you go baked a whole ton of issues go away. Hence their decision to go that way and for the other main competition to not have a proper 24 hour cycle.

Pretty sure GTSport's shadows aren't baked, they still suffer from low-res artifacts/slight flickering especially noticeable once you get up close. Not having to move the whole shadow maps across the environment might have helped them avoid the massive flickering issue though.

But yeah, I think you guys should keep the dynamic systems in pCars. :)

YouTube is incapable of showing the latest 4K games in a representative manner. Even 4K videos are horribly compressed. When seen with your own eyes there is a very significant IQ improvement for anything 1440p and up.

I didn't intend to make a counterpoint, I was adding that I still can't completely trust anyone's word even if I know what kind of experience/knowledge they have and value their perspective. I might be happy with the handling in a game while they aren't, or vice versa. :)

Which underlines the point of ascribing more value to objective, repeatable, and verifiable things when talking about sims.

No worries, I know what you meant. I was just trying to qualify my original statement.

Well this is going quite well indeed! :)

Metacritic at 89 on both PC and PS4. Unsure if it will stay there, most probably not unless we get a more '5 out of 5's...
This is insane. @IanBell should pay a couple rounds of beer to the whole optimization staff... by that video it looks like it's locked on 60fps, can't believe it's true!

It's the video from a reputable source?

It's pretty much 60 at all times. And yes, the team worked themselves silly to add much more overhead in things like Livetrack 3.0, fully 3d trees everywhere, an almost completely rewritten rendering engine and still ship running at a much higher average frame rate.

I knew I should have avoided this thread. :banghead:

At least the Forza demo is coming tomorrow, it should make the little bit of time left until I can play PC2 a little easier.
