Ill definitely wait for more people's opinion. Negativity is much easier to spread and advertise than positivity. He may be a respected opinion, but just because one guy doesn't like it doesn't mean anything. One guy loving it doesn't either.

When I see lines like 'it looks like a mobile game' I just roll my eyes. It doesn't - and almost no modern games do, save for some indie games. They are opinions for sure, but childish ones
I think you might be surprised how good some mobile titles can look

None of which is slander, it’s an opinion, is he not allowed to hold his own view?

He's welcome to share his view, I'm just sharing my opinion on what I think of his impressions. ;)

I personally think calling a game developed by a talented studio a "cash grab" counts as slander; he has no evidence to back up that claim.

Looks really bad in all aspects especially AI and mixed races on fake road tracks. Way worse the expected to be honest. 20€ grab if i do not move to ps5.

he has no evidence to back up that claim.

I don't see evidence why is not cash grab. It just... feels like selected content from PCars 2 packed in simplified package. I am seriously hungry for new racing game and i can't justify buying this in any way.

Less cars, less tracks much of which is lifted straight from the past two titles and a smaller DLC offering, I would say that evidence exists to support that view.

I only watched the tail end of Jimmy's stream, so he may have said more earlier. I know he was upset by the graphics and may have gotten heated when he was first dealing with it. But what he said towards the end(while complaining about graphics overall) was that "some of the menus look like a mobile game" which would of course be an opinion on their design.

If it stays true on launch that upgraded aero packages have zero graphical difference to the car that won't go over at all well.

We're rapidly approaching the end of a console generation and SMS have come out with a game that looks to have:
  • Dumbed down physics and critical dynamic components removed from the tire model
  • Structured classes removed in favor of a free for all in the fields
  • A track list at launch that largely features 2 new real world tracks for the series, the rest being fantasy road/street courses
  • An almost complete removal of endurance elements; super short career races, no tire/fuel management
  • A performance index system that will likely 🤬 up balancing for any online leagues that are left
Sounds pretty like a cash grab to me.

Project CARS 3 is targeting a different audience compared to the first 2 games and a lot of changes have gone into the user interface, gamepad support, physics and other areas to make that happen.

In many ways, it is intended to be a simplified package. For some, those are welcome changes getting people into the franchise for the first time.

Less cars, less tracks much of which is lifted straight from the past two titles and a smaller DLC offering, I would say that evidence exists to support that view.

The game offers improvements in other areas; improved controller support, a livery editor, the ability to upgrade cars and structured progression in career mode.

More effort has gone into other aspects of the game so I'm not convinced by the cash grab point.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but... If it was targeted to a different audience... why doesn't it have a different name? It doesn't, so it stands to reason they are trying to get the (uninformed) audience invested in the first 2 games to pickup the 3rd.

Indeed, you might not think that, but then again we have not played it, and you’re dismissing the view of someone who has!

Leaving old more hardcore audience by cutting features and trying to appeal to more casual broader crowd only makes me more confident that it is cashgrab.

And it feels like there are less improvments than cuts/and dumbing down the game.

I quit watching Jimmy's video because I thought it was not going to be good. I don't know what others are saying, I haven't seen TheKIie's video. I know Jimmy has around a half million subscribers last I checked. It's a big deal. The AI have been a concern for me from nearly all the videos. The Max difficulty one where he set AI to Legendary and Very High Aggression and still won by 12 seconds in snow seems would be an issue for the sim racers who are very good assuming this guy is good. He won by 16 seconds in the first race. The tires in the tire barriers were octagonal, not good, they should be round, maybe it's the video quality, I don't know. I already bought the Deluxe version. I am not going to cancel it like some others based on Jimmy's review alone. I thought the Koenigsegg at Nordschleif had decent graphics and audio. Some of The Dart's videos look and sound good as well.

Not to mention flat out lying to said hardcore audience that the game is still a sim when it clearly isn't one anymore

So you're all gonna base your judgment on one streamer?
Seen TheKie's stream?
Absolutely not my judgment of the game will be my own and it will be base on rather i enjoy driving my beloved p1 gtr in this game as much as i have in pcars 2

So bring on the 28 :D

Jimmy wasn't a fan, but also didn't like much of anything pCars.
Actrollvision loves it, but runs a bunch of pCars2 leagues.

I respect both these opinions, but that's just what they are.

If you want to play a game and have fun, this might be for you. If you want strategy, precision and realism, you'll have to look elsewhere. And I don't have to play the game to understand that.

I've seen other creators enjoying this game so I think it is fair for me to question his sentiment.

He is totally entitled to his view, but I'm not taking it as gospel just because he's respected in the community and amongst the first to get their hands on the game.

Given that why are you not questioning their views as well?

Ive not asked you to take it as gospel, but to tale it on board without dismissing it off hand as slander!

Yeah, I know Jimmy never liked pCARS, so I don’t really care much about his opinion. I didn’t hear it personally, but if he did say graphics are like mobile game, that is not true. The UI, yeah, that could be easily a mobile games UI. He is a streamer also, so he needs to “hype” whatever he is saying to get his chat to react.

Anyway, all the changes to the direction of the game we knew, so it really is like beating a poor dead horse. The AI looks bad, that’s a big problem that I have with the game right now. Probably will hold off on the game and purchase Control instead when that comes to steam.

How many of those creators said to be enjoying the game are actually saying their own views and not simply saying what the PR department wants to hear? By all means their sentiments should be questioned as well.

i assume PC3 for PS4 will also come with a special free update for PS5 (and major improvements)? ie a PS5 version? or will it be PS4 only (albeit 'working' on a PS5)?
If its the later then i can see why they would rush 'something' out now, and crack on with PC4 for PS5, yes in other words, that would be a cash grab before PS4 interest dies. So its now or never for a PS4 game, hence probably rushed out now. Just my guess.

Well it is all the sim we’ll ever want after all so we should all buy it.

In all seriousness, here’s my take, the marketing has lacked oomph, I can forgive that, it’s unfair to criticise that. The bit that’s fair to criticise is everything outside of the official marketing which has turned out to be complete lies, dishonest and on occasion, rude. That for me puts me off, not just 1 streamer, but a culmination of expectation and promise that has ultimately not been delivered on at all. I have plenty other things I will spend my cash on for now, the money I was saving to buy the deluxe edition has now gone on a guitar purchase, I’ll keep playing F1 2020 and then I’ll buy WRC9 and Tony Hawks remastered next month.

When PC3 has been in the wild for a while I may pick it up below RRP as it does look fun. But ultimately I’ve been lied to about this game and that doesn’t sit right, especially as someone who in the early discussions of this game, was a stoic defender of their direction and bought into what turned out to be untrue, defending the game through sheer belief that they wouldn’t dumb it down, that it would cater for everyone and that improved controller play doesn’t mean everything else suffers, that the decisions made he been made for good reasons and more besides.

I think it's a rush so it's out on current gen consoles and there won't be support for it on the next gen

Because I don't have a problem with their sentiment; what I've seen of the game looks like it will interest me so far and their perspective is in line with mine.

If you have a problem with positive feedback, you are entitled to question why they have a favourable sentiment towards the game.

It'll likely be backwards compatible, but as far as an update to next gen, they have not confirmed. Might be a contractual thing, where now CM is responsible to port/upgraded to next gen and BN is off the hook, thus the 'rushed' feeling of the game. But thats talking out my bum.

How do you know he isn't spouting this off because negative publicity gets more clicks than positive? I mean, it's a pretty circular argument. You can always find people online who support what you're feeling, no matter what it is. And with all the sim-racing community ready to write this game off as soon as 'no pit stops' was heard, it makes sense if he wanted to pander to the majority of his audience he'd do that. Not saying he is, but it is a possibility much like the opposite is a possibility

I’m not going to comment on the last few pages, as I’m inherently biased, but did want to clarify something (about the industry in general, I’m not specifically talking about this game as I’m not involved).

Typically, when a content creator is given a code they’re not told “you must say nice things only”. They’re also not paid unless you see a disclaimer (legal requirement on every social media platform).

Essentially it’s usually a case of “here is the code, here is some info about the game, here is the embargo timing, and enjoy”.

What they do after that is up to them, they can like or dislike the content however they want, so long as the critique is fair and respectful :)

FYI I only watched one stream tonight, Actrollvision went live just as I was going offline from my F1 session, so I raided him.

And in doing so you are applying a double standard
