I think SMS tried to break the sim through on to console with Shift2unleashed (loads of car options/settings and sense of speed and reality for a console) but their hands were tied by EA and having it for the masses as an arcade game and easy handling model. It must have been really frustrating for the studio. I could see the potential shining through even back on Test Drive-Ferrari and Shift 1 they had racing cars and tracks in their blood and the audio commentary was much better on the early games along with a great car list even back then and it was really great to hear they were not frightened off console and come back with this!

Given their background with SimBin and the GTR/GT Legends/GTR2 titles I am not surprised by that. Those titles were also well ahead of the curve for realism in both physics and realism for their day. They are still going fairly strong thanks to community mods keeping them somewhat relevant (new tracks, more modern cars, enhanced FFB and wheel support, etc). Yes, I still play those sims to this day myself. In my mind, Project CARS is really just an evolution of what those titles had started.

I can only imagine their frustration with what they had to produce for the NFS Shift series. As a "startup" studio, they needed to have those big dollar backers to get themselves established, but to me it is pretty clear that Andy Tudor and the team are very passionate about proper racing and proper depiction of racing. It's great to see them making this kind of progress.

Yep, I still play GTR2 today, in fact I just played it 10 minutes ago. And am about to go play it now. If PCars is as good physics wise as GTR2 was, it will be a sure fire success

I don't know if thius is the right thread for the question.
But does anybody know if we can get the RUF with the GTPlanet levery on PS4?

i just made the unfortunate mistake of reading the IGN car list article comments and my oh my, there are a lot of people writing this game off purely down to the fact there aren't currently 200 cars in it. i get what they're saying but damn, how can it turn people off so much? i think it was the track list that got me interested at first and there are a lot of tracks!
Avoid NeoGAF as well. It's astoudning how uninformed people are about pCARS. It's not like SMS hasn't been transparent during all these years. Some of the comments just makes me want to bang my head into a wall.

And then there are people from other playstation forums that make claims so ridiculous that you just don't know what to say. Comments like these :banghead:

I'm also coming from GT and Forza, but the PCARS carlist is so much better then GT and Forza.
GT has 1200 cars, but missing a lot of my favorite cars that are present in PCARS like the group A and group 5 cars, the GT4 cars, Formula C, Formula rookie(Ford), historic F1, clio cup, ....

Yes, but onfortunately you will either have to preorder the game/get the digital version or wait until the preorder pack cars become available as DLC because the CTR3 R is part of that pack (its called "modified car pack" iirc... Gawd, I hate this stupid preorder bonus car nonsense).

Licensing is one thing but manufacturers not playing the ball is - maybe - another. They perhaps don't want their cars in crowdfunded game. Maybe SMS doesn't have the same connections as PD and T10. (or Sony and MS)

For them it could look like "some indie project"

Can you blame them though ? PC has a lot to prove but once it does prove itself (if it proves itself) it should be easier to get the cars in.

Assetto Corsa does have Ferraris though and the team is 3 people and a cat - what budget they could have ?. Bag of chips ? That is an Italian team and again - maybe they have better connections.

Money is not everything folks.

Found this video of BlackPanthaa complaining about PCars car list. Honestly I don't see what's wrong with it. 65 cars AT LAUNCH is alot and DC has about the same number (At least it did when it launched) and it is backed by SONY so I don't see what's wrong.

Yea, just cruised IGN and noticed an article about the car list.
So many people turned off by that number!
As if people need 1200 cars.

Guess theres no winning...

Exactly. If Kunos weren't Italian (and most likely know someone who knows someone) they couldn't even afford a printing of a Ferrari. :P

Putting this aside, if car manufacturers like Nissan and Chevrolet that leaked back during development join this game too, we will have such a wonderful list of cars.
We already have a wonderful list of cars. Of course any more would be most welcome too, but honestly, if what we have now is all we would ever get I would be happy still. Nevertheless, dlc is on its way so we will see plenty more. :)

Since when was 65 cars not a lot? In comparison to Forza & GT's ridiculously overblown car lists it is not many, but it stacks up well against the sims out there in PC land.
I guess those who are making a huge issue of it probably wouldn't buy PCars anyway, they are more into the arcade/simcade type of title and are car collectors more so than racers.

I know, main complaints he made though was the lack of Nissan, Ferrari and Lamborghini.

Very much agreed, plus the hints of Toyota as per the leaked Season Pass thing. I want the GT86 VLN racer, amongst many others!

Having said that, has there been any mention of the BMW M325i race car being created at some point? Would be great for multiclass Nordschliefe races.

What an absolute dork, I lost about 1/10 of my brain cells listening to that, its videos like this that make me release why racing sims don't come to consoles that often. If Assetto Corsa or iRacing were ever released on consoles there would be so much whining, hell iRacing would be DOA because it consists of Subscription fee's and be drilled for "being evil money grabbing devs."

There seems to be a consensus (well, at least outside this forum) that 'large superficial number equals better car list'. While I do agree on that pCARS lacks some of popular cars/manufacturers, the car list is more than enough for a racing simulation title and to me far more appealing than GT5's/GT6's ever was. Out of 1000+ cars, I was regularly using at tops 15-20 of them, whereas in pCARS I'm looking at (eventually) using nearly all of them.

Amen to that. In iRacing it would cost you between $583 and $777 if you wanted to access all the content they have. On top you'll pay around $50 to $100 a year to be able to use the content you bought. And you cant race your content unless you're having the necessary driver class for the faster cars. Heck, they are even selling half done (and prolly never be done) tracks as tech tracks for $5 each.
