Project CARS car list

The number of cars doesn't put me off. I have had many racing games and played maybe only 10-80 cars that I kept coming back to and enjoyed the rest I didn't touch. I would rather have a few great quality cars with detailed interiors and more spare memory for tracks and future dlc/updates than 800 -2000 standard cars of no use to me with bland interiors and handling. I have enjoyed Shift and ps4 Drive Club with only 80 or so and play each one as you know them better.

I found this video of SMS 'shift2' car list and they had EA behind them then but they must have a lot of car and track detail/data already from the Shift series. Even the helmet cam was tried out on shift2. Look at the list and see all the similar cars that are on the PCars list.

SMS Budget isn't the only thing to consider. The main thing about Project CARS is that it is a RACING SIMULATOR, not a DRIVING Simulator.

With that in mind, take a look at the average RACING teams..... how many different cars in their garage/shop? 1 model per series they compete it..... 1. Why? Because they don't race a different car at every event. They race the SAME car all season long. Even now in GT6, my league has seasons of 16 race in length. Each driver is in the same car for those 16 races. This is the world that Project CARS is trying to replicate and simulate. Not the "different car in every scene" world of the Fast & Furious movies.

Having said that, most racing sims that I have had over the years have focused on 1 or 2 specific series, such as Indy Cars, F1, NASCAR or GT. Within each of those series you may have had a selection of 5 to 10 makes/models and then a number of different liveries. In the case of GTR2, you were limited to cars that competed in the FIA GT series. This meant BMW, Porsche, Ferrari, Viper, Mosler, McLaren, and Saleen. Did everyone catch that? SEVEN cars!! That's it! Granted, each model had about 20 liveries to choose from. Now here's the kicker..... as I mentioned earlier, I still play the game. Why? Because of the tracks, physics and AI and the overall RACING experience. All of the things that Project CARS has taken and expanded and improved on.

On top of that, with Project CARS SMS have created a racing sim that covers MULTIPLE styles of racing series. Having a Sim that covers Sportscar Racing and Formula racing in the same game is virtually unheard of. Even having a sim that covers the top tier of a category AND all of the feeder categories Formula A (F1), Formula B (GP2), Formula Gulf, Formula Rookie (Formula Ford) is almost unheard of.

As I have said before, most of the car list complaints are probably coming from gamers who have been "born and raised" on the consoles and the types of "driving games" that the console world has been limited to. It's not their fault really, as this level of Simulation has never been seen on the consoles before (even the F1 games had to be stripped down for the moves to console from PC). To make up for the lack of fidelity and control on the consoles the game makers did things like increase the car count as if to say "Sorry, you can't have real FFB or real physics, but you can have 500 GT-Rs!!".

In all honesty, the console players who have only ever experienced Forza, GT, DriveClub, or even F1 games are in for a whole other level of shock and awe. You think the complaints about car count are bad? Wait until they try to drive one of those cars and try the usual "wait until the very last second to slam on the brakes, downshift 3 gears at once and snap the stick left to take the corner" driving style that I see so often in GT6. Or when they open the garage to tune their car and they are faced with terms like "Fast Bump" and "Slow Bump", or "Waste Gate", or a tuning model that ACTUALLY DOES WHAT IT'S SUPPOSED TO DO (like rake settings and camber).

I give it a day after release before we start seeing the "This game sucks! You can't drive any of these cars!" posts.

Rant ends..... now.
This post should be quoted to any of the complainers or reviewers who complain about car count, it nicely encapsulates what matters in PCars and shows what a great car list it really is.

SMS didn't use a single car model or track asset from Shift because the IP belongs to EA. Everything was made from scratch.

Apologies, It wasn't meant as a negative I really enjoy SMS games and shift helmet cam mode, I just thought they may have been able to use some of their knowledge, hard work and data from previous work on pcars. The ideas and inspirations have obviously come from their past work. 👍

Hoping they add more cars to compete with the 1999 Renault Laguna BTCC, see the Primera is unconfirmed but another 2 from that year/era would be a great series to run.

If Project CARS had all of the most popular brands and models, there wouldn't be so many complaints. There are no Corvettes, Vipers, Nissans, Mazdas, Hondas, Toyotas, etc...JDM fans and GM/Chrysler fans have next to nothing to play with. It's easy to perceive how the car selection is underwhelming to anyone who isn't a fan of European cars, so it's not necessary to lump everyone who's unhappy about it under the "casual grindy-car-collecting Gran Turismo fanboy" banner.

No game "needs" hundreds of cars, but PCARS could sure benefit from some cars it doesn't already have.

Well said. Car list is bad, there is no denying that.

I can't see it being a problem for me, I've had GT6 since launch day and play on average at least three evenings a week and still only have 123 cars, including the 15th aniversary edition ones, and I've probably driven less than half of them. I always like to do the seasonals etc with the cars I already own rather than buy another that makes it easier. Everybody wants something different so they can't make everybody happy.

I think you'll find that most people who are interested in sim racing, would deny that, thank you very much.
I am not that into sim racing but I do think that PCars car list is very good for a racing sim coming from GTR2 and rFactor. PCars is the only sim I know of that, at launch, has a huge amount of cars from almost every corner of motorsport.

Look at the car lists of AC, iRacing, Raceroom Racing Evolution at launch. Those are sims that had a compareable budget. Frankly, I m starting to get annoyed by the ignorant comments towards the car list. Is it perfect? Hell bloody now, but how in the world could it? is is more than enough for what the game is? Hell bloody yes and it will only expand from here.

to have one game where I can race Superkarts, GT cars, LMP cars, classic cars and Formula 1 cars on any track available is a first for me. it's frankly amazing! how can people not be more excited for that, plus the sheer volume of tracks, than they are disappointed by the 'lack of cars'?

So these guys that are complaining about this game only having 65 cars would rather have quanity over quality. And they clearly have no idea about SMS budget. smh.

British and German cars. That's what Project CARS has. If someone doesn't like British or German cars, they probably won't be impressed by the car list.

SMS didn't cover enough bases in the licenses they were able to negotiate. That's not really SMS's fault, but people are entitled to be dissatisfied with it. If you don't understand what the fuss is about, you might be a fan of European cars.

I don't think the list is bad as such, but it suffers in that some cars have no competition so unless your in a one make series you wont use it.

When the list is fairly limited then that becomes a problem.

For what it's worth,
Ithink the car list is great.
Give me one car in each racing series and I'm fine.

Seems that some people expected to much.
Personally I thought there where only racecars comming to the game So I'm happily surprised.
The one thing that I would realy love to see in future dlc wis the 458 GT3

I think the car list will expand positively, at least I hope so. That's why I pre-ordered and gave them my monetary contribution, I wouldn't have otherwise.

One make series are not a bad thing, you know...

Yes, they aren't, in general. But a whole game's worth of them (not talking specifically about PCARS here)? No on-track variety would get boring pretty quick.

One word: moderation. It's important for everyone to approach these unique projects with moderate expectations for results. Not too high that the developers will see Mount Everest in front of them, but not too low either. If you show a developer that you're happy with little, little is what you'll get, because the game will be cheaper to make and will still return profit, which is what companies, like SMS, exist for.

One make series are not a bad thing, you know...

I never said it was, I had great fun on GT5/6 in one make series but after that I'd never use the car again, the 1M for example, a 1 make would be great fun but when it's finished when would you use it again?

If you had the Audi RS3 and A-Class AMG you would have a great series and be more likely to run that car again.

I'm happy with the amount of cars but it would have been nice if you had 3/4 similar cars so you could match them in a series with. After all, most people will spend most of there time online.

I think the list of cars is fantastic, especially all the old Ford's, but I can see the argument about cars that don't really fit in with any other cars. Personally, I can do without supercars like the Gumpert or the Lykan and have a few more "basic" road cars.

I can also see the argument against some of the cars that don't really "fit in" with any other cars, but who knows what's to come in the future?

For the time being there are more than enough cars to keep me busy for a long while.

I'm 150% satisfied with the car list, the escort, m3, cossworth and 300sel just set off the car list!

I would like more aussie stuff, but as stated its a euro game, not really expecting hundreds of Japanese cars or heaps of roaring V8 chunks of steel.
I started looking into project cars knowing that, so when I noticed the FG CoTF, up for DLC, I almost spit my coffee all over my monitor and fell out of the chair haha

V8 utes would be the greatest, though, I am aware it will never happen.

Your assumption about most people playing online most of the time is a wrong one, we simply don't know that.
We do know that there are a huge amount of players who are offline only, including myself. I will spend the bulk of my time in QRW, and I hope that SMS include a custom championship option in the not too distant future.
I also have absolutely no problem with one model races and intend to revisit every car in this fabulous game over and over and over again. It's hardly as if every series is like that anyway i.e. The gt3 and gt4 classes have multiple different makes in them, plus we can have multi class races as well. There is so much choice and so many options in PCars.

Can somebody whose played the game tell me how the Aston Martin V12 GT3 is to drive? I'm getting excited and was curious how it handles. :D

The Car list is available in the op for several years now. There are literally hundreds of thousands of videos showcasing every car. Don't get how people pretend to be unpleasantly surprised after the list has been made 'public'. Yes I want the 'staple' lambos, nissans and ferraris too, and until we get them I'll be enjoying the exclusive, pristine quality cars we have.

Ford and Mitsubishi are our representatives for NA and Japan for now. Several additional cars from these brands are pretty well developed already. Vehicle and Track Artists as well as the physics guys are really productive over at SMS and we know that SMS is developing and licensing stuff in the background. So, much more good stuff is coming i want to say
