Ovals will come eventually, since there was already enough rage about the cancelled other tracks. They will probably be time-trial only though, since AI is a problem sms is struggling with and despite all the praise in those articles they are tired of working on pcars 1 content. Banochbrae was just held back from the start to extend the game's lifespan.
Didn't SMS release a teaser of the street version of the Indycar only, after they questioned any new feature would still come to PCARS 1 last month? That would serve as an indication ovals are not likely going to happen neither.

WMD backers were never involved in pCARS 1 console testing. It was handled by a 3rd party, not by WMD. Of course on the WMD forums there were loads of people offering to test if required, but it was difficult to arrange (dev consoles for beta testing, etc...).

If you seriously think the WMD backers were able to influence the release date of pCARS to ensure it was fully bug free, you're in a unique one-man-awesome-zone-of-awesomeness. You must be very proud :)

OK so they took your money and thats it? And that is why Ian drives around in a Ferrari...

Ian stated on forum that there wont be ovals because, get this, the AI won't be able to cope with the change and its impossible to work, didnt stop them selling the hope of ovals though..nice...
You will now see more truth from Ian and SMS as they are leaving PCars 1 behind for PCars 2...

If they need help with oval racing AI, would it make any sense to call up those who worked with the ex nascar game developers (EA and Eutechnyx)? I'm guessing it's probably a no.

Or even Polyphony Digital. They've got some experience with ovals over the years (Motegi, Fake Motegi, Indy, Daytona, Special Stage Route X, Test Circuit, etc.).

I'm pretty sure he was driving around in a Ferrari before SMS even started thinking about Project CARS or WMD....

I get that you aren't happy with elements of pCARS, but I think you need to go and read up on what Kickstarter and Early Access really means, to understand just how much influence is possible from a community. To be honest, I think pCARS is one of the most effective Kickstarter-type projects I've seen, where community feedback achieved many things. Some Kickstarters have very little interaction between the backers and developers.

Ian had the Ferrari before Pcars 1 ninja'd

Ian also stated they are working on some things to make ovals work (maybe online only)

So I guess the Jan DLC has been confirmed then on the official Red Bull site:

"Our On Demand program hits the ground running in 2016 with a big expansion that includes the KTM X-Bow R, professional drifter Mad Mike Whiddett’s Mazda MX-5 RADBUL Formula Drift car and two BMWs – the 1-Series M-Coupe and 2002 model," he reveals. "Both BMWs been modified and lowered by renowned automotive lifestyle enthusiasts Stanceworks."

The Stanceworks Track Expansion, which arrives on January 26 on PS4, Xbox One and PC, is not just a handful of new cars for the virtual garage, however.

"It also includes a new road course located in the highlands of Scotland, to join the existing ones in the US and the French Riviera," says Tudor. "And as if that wasn't enough, the free car this month is the Ford Falcon FG, which saw huge popularity in Australia’s V8 Supercar series."

And then prepare for the new batch of WMD members to start shilling on forums about PCars 2. It now seems like yesterday hearing about the reason for PCars delays was good news as it means SMS were going to release a bug free game... lol
I daresay a large amount of people will be waiting to see how pCARS2 rolls out, rather than going down the pre-order, grab on day one route like they did for pCARS1

Me for one

Hmm, I'm not familiar with Stanceworks. Reading Tudor's description "automotive lifestyle enthusiasts" makes me wonder how these 2 BMWs fit into a racing game.

Yeah, Stanceworks doesn't make cars...they're just hobbyists. That being said I hope SMS turn these into actual race-cars, because they're mostly track day specials or poster-cars.

I'll be picking up the DLC just to have the Scottish track (it was quite good in early release, really something different) and the 1-coupe racer. It is definitely one of the weaker DLCs if we don't include the V8 Aussie which is excellent.

Well never pre order. i waited 1 month after PCars dropped and got it for £25. If one thing this generation of consoles is telling us its don't preorder... Forza 6 is now £29 and they are doing a sale of car pass and horizon 2 bundles etc etc, Fallout 4 now can be purchased for £30, thats before we look at preowned prices.
One thing they know they have with PCars 2 though is custom championships... I called it 6 months ago when people were getting excited that they would see the interest and keep it as a selling point for PCars 2 and it is.
On the one hand very clever, if not original, on the other their (SMS) claims to doing things from a fresh perspective are shot down in flames, they are just another Turn 10 / codemasters.
Good luck to them, gaming is probably the cheapest hobby i have.

The pre-order for PCars1 was the best one I ever did...I recoup'ed 160% of the money I spent on the game...so that worked out a treat. No complaints here.

I'm stoked with the DLC content for Project Cars and am already looking forward to Project Cars 2. If you're that adamant that Ian has ripped you off, take him to court:

He's making a valid point though about SMS hyping up the ovals. Do I think that I was "ripped off" no, but I wish people would keep the mouths shut if they are not 100% sure they can do something. Had this happened, you wouldn't see the complaining.

Do not say that I hate SMS, I throughly enjoy the base game and the DLC that has come out.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the Scottland track and the Ford V8 on the 26th :D.

What's with all the mewling, whingeing babies on here? "Ian Bell promised ovals, he lied yet he can drive a Ferrari" WMD don't owe anyone anything. Game developers say many things but don't deliver, I suspect much like many other professions. I expected DLC to last 10-12 months and so it will prove to be. I think they've given us quite a bit of DLC content, much of it very good to be fair. Sure, it's not perfect but what is? Actually quite looking forward to 26th January. A track plus cars. Nice.

The main game is 70% off on PSN right now. for 12$. I just picked it up after getting my SSHD in the system. Now downloading all my other things first. :/

See i dont think SMS hyped up ovals, yes they showed the indy open wheeler (i think this still coming) but all the hype is from fanboys asking about it every other day (yes i want ovals to)and people answering the question on rumors.

Some people have a hard time telling difference between FACT,FICTIOn, Rumors ,and just plane babble.

That's where I have to disagree with you. They made a very clear announcement on their official website here: http://www.wmdportal.com/projectnews/experience-the-indianapolis-500-in-project-cars/
I'm not too bothered by this because I would have been using the Indy cars on Sonoma and Watkins Glen mostly anyway, but I really think SMS have learned a good lesson here. They may have the licensing and the assets, but they might not all function in the game properly. They may have been so excited about the connection to Indy that they announced it before they tested anything. I would bet that they will keep their mouths shut regarding most of the details of PCars 2, even though they've already said so much about their car list size and offroad driving modes. I don't know what all will happen, but I have high hopes given that their first game in a brand new IP did so well in such a critical market as a sim racing game. SMS has learned, and I hope the best for them! (By the way, I rarely comment here, but I'm always watching and reading for new info to come up about the game, so this is a great thread!)

Exactly. The majority of people who buy and play the game have probably never been on a forum before and would be none the wiser. And I bet they're stoked with the game and all the bonus DCL that's been released.

Remember, not so long ago there was no such thing as DLC. I think we should consider ourselves lucky

As has already been said, they did more than show the Indycar, so your last sentence there is quite ironic, considering you were given a link to them announcing oval racing and ignored it, only to say people only read what they want to hear and not what's been written.

It says in this paragraph that not only will the Indianapolis oval be in the game, but the Indy 500 would be integrated into the career.

"Players will be able to experience the thrill of driving a 700hp open-wheeler inside the world’s most famous oval as Project CARS will feature a true to life virtual version of the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway venue. Aside from offering an exciting place for action-packed multiplayer races and quick race events, the Indy 500 will also become a integral part of Project CARS’ career mode."

It then goes on to say this:

"As Project CARS strives to provide the most authentic racing experience possible, all aspects of modern American open wheel racing will be accurately featured within the game, including asymmetrical setups, the IndyCar Series’ push to pass feature as well as proper oval racing rules."

We now know that we're unlikely to get a lot of this. Ian said no more series will be added to career, no AI on ovals, if we even get ovals at all. That means we're unlikely to get Indianapolis, and even if we do, it'll be online (and maybe time trial) only, we'll not be able to race AI on it, it'll not be in career, and therefore there won't be any "proper oval racing rules" either, as they'd be redundant.

So you see, it wasn't just fanboys hyping up the ovals for Pcars. There were also numerous images and videos of a few different ovals being raced on in Pcars development. They were pulled pre-release, like the historic tracks, and WMD members were told they would be polished up and released as DLC.

WMD members were told a lot of things, and were even told they should remind people that Pcars is WIP and would have all of this stuff later on.

I'll only the buy the next pack because of the new track and the Mazda.
Edit : Kinda sucks that SMS promised Indianapolis and we will not get it due to a variety of issues, seemingly unforeseen by the staff.

Well you actually said the Indy open wheeler was shown, may still be coming and only fanboys were hyping up ovals coming to the game, so I corrected you. You didn't say Indianapolis might still be coming. Pcars also had a few other ovals which were shown by WMD members pre-release, but SMS have remained silent on those, so I would imagine those will be kept for Pcars 2 now.

I remember seeing quite a few people asking why ovals weren't in the game yet, call them fanboys if you like, I'd probably call them oval fans, and IIRC it was usually WMD members telling them to be patient and that ovals would be added later, and then people would speculate on when the oval DLC would be released. WMD members seemed to have been under the impression that those circuits would be added as DLC, and why shouldn't they have been? SMS themselves said Pcars would have full American oval racing rules implemented in the game, and WMD members had a few ovals to race on pre-release.

Just making sure you know the difference between FACT and FICTION.
