For someone looking for a PC but is unsure of the cost.
( I put this together for someone that wanted to start in iracing. )

The CPU / Ram / Power Supply all have a lot of headroom in power / speed for a couple years for games. I cut the budget down in Graphics and Hard Drive to keep the price low.

This graphics card (AMD R7 260) is equal to performance you would get in a XB1 / PS4 so if you wanted more you can easily pick a card around the 200$ price range that would be a real bump up in graphics performance.

GPU could also be swapped out for an NVidia 650 / 660 card for similar price performance combo at about 550-600$

@Bigbazz -- Powerful hardware is useless without compelling software. I haven't really been interested in Sony stuff since the PS2, and Microsoft turned me away from the XBone with their PR fiasco, while FM5's thin content (because HD graffixz!!1!!) killed off any lingering interest I had left for the console. Too many games on Sony/MS platforms are all about graphics and lack substance. Literally the only reason I bought a PS2 and Xbox 360 is for the racing games I couldn't get for Gamecube/Wii/PC. If it's not a racing game, it's probably not in my PS2/360 library, with only a handful of exceptions.

The fact that SMS is developing a Wii U version of Project CARS is one reason (among others) that I went ahead and bought the console. Project CARS U could look like a N64 game for all I care, as long as the gameplay is good. The screenshots in this thread are pretty, but I'm banking on the hope that their fidelity is a reflection of the passion Slightly Mad have poured into the overall game, rather than a hollow polished facade. I liked Shift 2 Unleashed, except for the way it drives. If pCARS is pretty much like that but more playable, I'm on board.

I'm a member of Project Cars and whilst I wouldn't say it is the best sim out there, or the best gameplay experience it definitely is a good (and ever improving) one, definitely worth a buy. You have to take these pictures and realise what they are tho, they are the potential of Project Cars on a high end PC, with very high graphical settings and likely better than we will even see on the PS4/Xbone let alone the Wii U. I'd bet a fair few of the pictures you see posted have photoshop corrections and are sometimes taken ingame with settings to increase picture quality that seriously effect gameplay performance (I suppose that depends on how good your pc is).

My point is that if you're going to buy a console to play this game then the last choice should be the Wii U, it is a console with very dated hardware capabilities and Project Cars is every bit the "Next generation graphical showcase" type of game. Does the Wii U even support 3rd party wheel controllers?

I'm not saying don't buy Project Cars if you have a Wii U, I'm saying don't buy a Wii U to play Project Cars. Best case scenario I'd say play it on a PC, it was developed on the PC first and foremost and PC's reprisent far higher computing power than any console. I'd personally never buy an Xbox One, and I'm unlikely to buy a PS4 anytime soon, as I've already said I actually do fancy a Wii U and I have nothing against it.

None of my photos are photoshopped in any way or form! All of them were taken with Dxtory and then uploaded to "Flickr"! What you see in MY pic's, comes straight out of the game as i play it, and you can bet that it looks that way also!

Just wanted to let you guys know that.

Now, i do have to agree with the part that it might not look as good on PS4 & Xbox1 vs PC, but we all knew that.

+1

From the pics I see on the forums and the one's that are posted here, none are edited. We have a section in the pCARs forum where only in game shots are posted, and all the shots you see here are posted in that section. So, if anyone has any doubt's on how good the game can look. What you see here is what you can get, that is if you have the hardware for it.

Good to hear. 👍

Maybe you don't understand how little I care about a "next generation graphical showcase." I haven't weighed consoles that way since the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube generation. Powerful hardware is nice, but software and quality gameplay is better.

Nintendo has the software I want, and when I found out Project CARS U was confirmed it helped pull the trigger on the purchase. As for the PC version, as a general rule I don't play anything on PC that I could play on console instead. Graphics schmaphics, I prefer to avoid the headaches (and expense) of PC gaming whenever possible.

There are USB slots and it isn't Microsoft (;)), so I don't see why it couldn't, necessarily. I don't use my G25 for console games so it's not a high priority, but I would give it a shot if Slightly Mad can do it. The Wii U will almost certainly support accelerometer/gyroscope steering, which may or may not be worth it.

There is a difference with racing games, clarity allows you to be able to much easier spot braking points (or references to that) and focus on being accurate, not to mention the more important factor which is FPS performance. If you look at games like the Codemasters F1 series on consoles a lot of people had issues with the low quality graphics and more specifically the FPS, as it really took away from the gameplay experience having fps drops in certain situations within the game... Meanwhile mid-range PC's not only looked better with much more clarity but also had no FPS issues.

We know the game has excellent beautiful graphics, question is how much will they sacrifice on clarity (resolution/aa method) to allow them to keep the game as pretty as possible, and how much will they sacrifice on FPS? If you have a decent PC then it makes no real sense to play the game on the Wii U. I'm pretty much the opposite to you, as a general rule I'l rarely play anything on the console that I can play on the PC, becuase I can still use my PS3 controller on my PC, but on the PC I have better quality visuals (specifically a lot more clarity) with higher and more steady frame rates, I often have the option to add quality content through modding and not to mention fixes to any issues or dislikes in the game and really with services like steam it is no more difficult than playing a game on the console, you just install and play.. You can even subscribe to mods (for example in Skyrim) and they will auto-install and autoupdate.

Like I said, nobody is saying don't buy Project Cars for the Wii U, but if you have the option of playing it on a good PC you're only stabbing yourself in the foot as far as gameplay experience goes.

I'm accustomed to playing at 480i on a CRT TV. Clarity is a problem for tiny menu fonts, but not driving. When I eventually get an HDTV, 720p will be more than enough. I hope SMS can deliver a steady 30fps, but it's all on them and their choices in development, not the hardware.

I don't intend to buy the killer PC I don't have, in order to play one game "prettier" than the Wii U could -- so no, it's not really an option. I'm also looking forward to what they can do with the GamePad, which has already proved its worth in the relatively short time I've had the console. "Stabbing myself in the foot"...please. If it disturbs you so much, I guess you'll have to suffer knowing that there aren't quite as many high-res textures, infinitesmal details, or advanced special effects tucked into the interlaced image on my 'tube. I think I'll survive, okay? ;)

The tracks are accurate representations, not what they think the track looks like. Lots of references have been made to photos, videos, and real-life feedback about the circuits, to try and give the most realistic experience outside of laser-scanning the tracks.

The only issue at the moment is the lack of feeling these bumps through FEB when using gamepads, but that will come.

Oh my Lord!

That red... that carbon fiber!

PCARS could very well dominate the sim market for years to come. Just a gut feeling. Hope the end product is put through countless refinement and finishing touches.

Wii U? More like Wii... No...
*that went downhill faster than expected...*

Well at least it RUNS on the Wii U
Well, to be honest. I'm not sure this is even a Wii U build, some curious mention of the Project CARS API on the bottom of the screen...

I thought that Brands Hatch has been implemented with a laser scanned surface (not sure where I read that, admittedly).

The tracks are all reasonable but the little inaccurate details still stick out when comparing them to laser scans from competitors. I also think that some pCARS tracks are using older graphics assets and haven't been updated with things like the current rumble strip colors and positions....

The 4 motorsport vision tracks (Brands, Cadwell, Oulton and Snetterton) will be laser scanned. They are currently working on all of them except Cadwell.

The main issue SMS face is the size of their budget, and you've also got to bear in mind that by slightly altering the track and it's assets, they can get away with the track in the game without the license.
