Get Avast or AVG then, point is you can still use the computer.

Logitech pulling out is only affecting negotiations for a proper driver to be made, it is not the cause both Sony and MS installed 'security chips' so all wheels are rendered useless.
Explain to me if you read what I did,Logitech is not making peripherals for gaming systems,eg wheels, controllers etc
Logitech decided, not Sony or Microsoft,to pull out of the Gaming peripheral market to make more money, its no different then GM deciding to drop the Oldsmobile/Pontiac division of cars that were made for 80 years. They were not profitable and poof their gone. All wheels are not rendered useless as the Thrustmaster T 500 works it was made before the PS4.
I don't like it anymore than you my friend, but it is what it is.Thrusmaster is the official Licensed wheel for the GT series,Sony owns the GT series,so guess what, you wanna play on PS4 you buy Thrustmaster,Sony gets a percentage and they make money. Go buy a new car, don't like the rubber you have on that car ,too bad, your buying new tires. Sounds vaguely familiar doesn't it.

And again that is beside the point, it's Sony and MS that introduced the security chip not any of the wheel manufacturers. Logitech stopping the game peripheral branch of their business is not the reason the G27 doesn't work anymore on the new consoles.

All wheels are not rendered useless as the Thrustmaster T 500 works it was made before the PS4.
Which then raises the question about the official explanation about the security chip being the reason, as this wheel doesn't have it. Makes Sony and MS's practices regarding this subject look even more dubious.

Sad but true.

That's a bad comparison as you would still be able to drive around with those tyres.

Technically, no wheel is rendered useless, since they still work with the devices they claim to support.

And you still are, you just can't fit those tyres on your new car...

You got me there :D
We were just a bit naive thinking Sony and MS would do us the favor of making them compatible. Learned my lesson though, as someone who likes playing racing games with wheels i won't make the same mistake because in 5 years time the same will happen again. These wheels are too expensive to keep replacing them in a small timeframe like that just because of compatibility issues, so pc is the best future proof decision.

Yep, the whole situation stinks and there probably is much more to this than we actually realise, certainly the whole court case issue might be the stumbling block with the Immersion technology.

Whatever the reason is, they are not resolving it and therefore we have a decision to make. Some will buy new wheels, some will just use the DS4 and others will shift to PC gaming. Their reasons for taking a particular route will depend a lot on financial circumstances, loyalty to a particular brand and possibly morals too.

I'm going down the PC route simply because I don't want to buy another wheel so soon after purchasing a G27. I don't like the way in which Sony has handled this situation with the 'security chip' smoke and mirrors. I also don't like the thought of racing without using a wheel. So for me the logical step was to upgrade my aging PC and enjoy sim racing with my G27. In the meantime, I hope that the G27 finally gets compatibility and then I'll be happy to use it on my PS4 and buy PS4 racing sims again.

Who knows, maybe in the future I'll have a change of heart, if my G27 did die, perhaps I'd then consider the option of a PS4 compatible wheel.....

Everyone is different and we will all make our own decisions.

The reason why those older wheels don't work is because someone have to pay the license for the FFB technologie to Immersion. There was a license for PS2 and PS3, but not for PS4 and XBONE. And Logitech is not gonna pay for the license because they are out of the business.
I thought everybody knew this.

this, security chip is a cheap excuse from Logitech

T100 (Immersion Thecnologies Force Feedback) and T500RS are compatible and they don't have security chip

A few years ago i had a Logitech DFX wheel for XBOX 360. It was no "real" FFB.
No "real" FFB = no Immersion Technologies Force Feedback. It was a workaround from Logitech because they hadn't payed the license for XBOX 360 to Immersion.

Wasn't the lawsuit between Sony and Immersion though? Sony got spanked and had to pay a rather large settlement fee to Immersion, which is probably not helping the situation either. Logitech won't pay for the Immersion licence and if Immersion have had issues with Sony they probably won't allow it anyway.

There is more to this than what any of us realise. Eventually it might get resolved, there could be a trade of technology and licencing agreements if all parties finally settle and start to collaborate. Until this time, the consumers are stuck.

Yes indeed there was a lawsuit between Sony and Immersion. But in the XBOX 360 case, logitech did nothing wrong because they didn't use the Immersion technologie. There was only a sort of rumble and not FFB.

So the security chip is BS then? It's mentioned all the time in this article, but as said before it does not make any sense because of the T500:

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-11-05-whats-the-deal-with-ps4-and-xbox-one-steering-wheels

Fanatec said the following:

  • The new console uses a completely different force feedback communication protocol, wireless transmission protocol and a different security chip.
  • The security chip needs to be purchased by the third-party manufacturer from Microsoft and it makes sure that only official licensed products can be connected to the console. Only if you get the official approval from Microsoft you will be able to purchase such a security chip for Xbox One.

We're being lied to!

The T500 isn't compatible with XBONE and with PS4 it only works ingame if the game support it and not in the PS4 menus.
The 500 does work on PS4 not game menus, but you think that being the "official wheel" means Sony told them of the impending chip for PS4?

selling my g27 and buying the t300. cos its alot cheaper than getting a gaming pc which will need the graphics card updating every year or so

Get a good graphics card and it will last you for many years. It's a myth it needs to be changed that quickly, might be that in a year or 4 you can't put everything on max anymore that's all.

Nice. 👍 Best of luck with your decision. At least you've decided what you're going to do.

It's always been a pretty pointless debate. The fact is consoles are far better for pick up and play. Sure, PCs can be... but 90% of the time they are not.

All depends what you want from your experience.
Yep, that's the main reason why i choose to buy XBONE instead of PC. Sure i know you get more quality with PC and sure i know that everybody can learn to build their own gaming PC. But i just want pick up and play.

I haven't built myself a PC yet, because I was given a PS4 and tbh if I'm going to build a PC, I'm going to build one I'm going to be happy with... as in one that will play the simulators on ultra settings with a smooth 60fps, on triple screens. That's not a cheap build!

So money spent on T300 and V2 pedals instead.

My PC will happen, one day. For now, consoles do more than a good enough job to go racing.

I've been playing games on pc for about 3 weeks now and there isn't that much of a difference; download from steam sit yourself in the couch with a wireless keyboard and a wireless 360 controller and go. The only difference is that the pc versions of games have more options to play around with, so you have to tinker it a bit to get your preferred settings sometimes, but that's actually a luxury IMO.

Yeah that's the positive with the PC sims... the options and settings.

That's the problem with PC gaming. As soon as you can't play with everything maxed out, you'll think you are missing out on something and therefore want to upgrade. This is not a problem on consoles.

That's actually a problem of the pc user himself, everything doesn't have to be on ultra for an enjoyable experience, so after a couple of years you just put the newest games on medium to high and you will still have a better graphical experience than the PS4 or Xbone will put out :D

Look at this for example:

What does this have to do with wheels not working.

That's a pointless comparison. ^ Think of the price difference. You shop around you can get a PS4 for £300. A PC build for £300 won't get anywhere near the PS4 in terms of graphical power. It just won't.

Correct, back to wheels.

... you can't run pCARS maxed out on a PC with less than a GTX980 today, you know. Even a 970 doesn't quite cut it, at least if you want sufficient AA/AF. You spend basically the cost of the PS4 on the graphics card to max out pCARS, and that's just the way it is. Unless you want triples, in which case dual titans seems wise ;)

On topic there's so little to talk about. Still no news that Logitech is suddenly reentering the market, no sign of a device which can magically give the G27 full FFB on the PS4 or Xbox One, so nothing interesting to talk about.

We could talk about Thrustmaster still not having their quality assurance able to cope with demand and plenty of guys having issues with their new wheels, but at the end of the day getting a working wheel might require patience and an RMA, but in most cases it won't.
