Actually, I was wrong; there is something in the article that I hadn't considered. Thrustmaster have a license to make wheels for the PS4, & as they pointed out that includes being granted permissiion to make older wheels work on PS4 without the need for a security chip. Likewise, it seems that if Fanatec are granted a license for PS4 to make rims with security chips, they also would be granted permission to write a driver to support their older wheels.
Conclusion; if Sony are gonna make the granting of backwards compatibility entirely dependent on making new wheels with security chips, so that a manufacturer can get permission to write a driver for their older wheels, then Logitech are not gonna be able to get such permission as they've said they do not intend to make any new wheels for consoles.
Again, this is all just speculation. We'll have to wait & see how things pan out to see what actually ends up happening.
It may be speculation, but that theory makes sense.
