Project CARS - Logitech Wheels NOT Supported on PS4

Actually, I was wrong; there is something in the article that I hadn't considered. Thrustmaster have a license to make wheels for the PS4, & as they pointed out that includes being granted permissiion to make older wheels work on PS4 without the need for a security chip. Likewise, it seems that if Fanatec are granted a license for PS4 to make rims with security chips, they also would be granted permission to write a driver to support their older wheels.

Conclusion; if Sony are gonna make the granting of backwards compatibility entirely dependent on making new wheels with security chips, so that a manufacturer can get permission to write a driver for their older wheels, then Logitech are not gonna be able to get such permission as they've said they do not intend to make any new wheels for consoles.

Again, this is all just speculation. We'll have to wait & see how things pan out to see what actually ends up happening.

It may be speculation, but that theory makes sense.

agree with you..but the major problem is the lack of communication from SONY an LOGITECH... they are letting players alone ,who have paid a lot for their materials...

With no information at all less players will get frustrated compared to "Logitech will not be supported" which will reach more players and maybe frustrate customers even if they don't have a wheel. We are here in a racing forum, the Logitech issue probably isn't known to 85% of the PS4 owners because they don't care

I think Logitech has been pretty clear: they're out of the console peripheral market. Can't be more clear than that.

As far as having paid and being left alone: the wheels (DFGT, G25, G27) still work with the devices that were supported (PS3, PC) when people bought them. Logitech never claimed to support PS4, Xbox One or other platforms. As a matter of fact, they actually stated the opposite.

console owners-you should all cut your losses and sell your g27 and put that money towards a new wheel. logitech will never be supported on ps4. no point in complaining, nothing will change.and if your going to wait, then more fool you. you will be missing out on project cars. Its obvious logitech arent doing anything and why would they ? logitech dont deal in the console market any more. Thrustmaster have a deal with sony, yes it stinks and its been done so no amount of whinging and complaining is gonna change that. Deal with it like the rest of us

So why did Logitech tweet that they were still working on PS4 compatibility for their wheels after saying they had pulled out of the console peripheral market?

Because the Twitter guys don't always know what is going on ;) Maybe they worked on an internal study if it would make sense to support PS4 and the marketing dept. read this as "we are working on the compatibility"

Mere assumption, nothing more.

Mere assumption, nothing more.

You wanted an explanation, this is the most probable (for me). Don't you think they would be able to code a driver in less than 2 years? We never got official confirmation that they are working on a support, just 2-3 tweets.

While I kinda agree with you, there is a glaringly obvious error with your post.

I can still enjoy Project Cars with a G27. It's called a PC.....;).....and a 2 fingered salute to Sony.

I don't think that buying any wheel for console gaming is wise anymore. The next gen (PS5) could quite easily give us the exact same problem all over again, sure that's a few years down the line now, but why blow several hundred on a peripheral for console manufacturer s to render it useless once more?

Logitech can tend to just stop support of one of their
Running a PC with no security is a brilliant idea.If you read this article completely http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-11-05-whats-the-deal-with-ps4-and-xbox-one-steering-wheels
and read Logitech's response, its about profitability they opted out of the console Sony/Microsoft market.
In January 2013 Logitech CEO Bracken P. Darrell said this:

  • We are taking immediate actions to shape a faster and more profitable Logitech. We are developing more mobility-related products, leveraging the powerful growth of tablets and smartphones. We intend to sustain our leadership in PC platform-related products where we have engineering, distribution and scale advantages. Our goal with PC-platform products is to maximize profitability, while investing selectively in growing categories.
  • We have also identified a number of product categories that no longer fit with our current strategic direction. As a result, we have initiated the process to divest our remote controls and digital video security categories, and we plan to discontinue other non-strategic products, such as speaker docks and console gaming peripherals, by the end of Calendar Year 2013.
So in the end its all about profit. So Logitech according to this says they will no longer make these products. Thats why companies are in business. To make money. Did you expect Sony to license something that will no longer be made.
yeah they stopped supporting their awesome Squeezebox audio streamer line, but thankfully I've got a load of them anyway.

i can't see TM ditching their PS4-compatible wheels for PS5; peripherals are their business unlike Logitech who do many different computer-related products and often cancel whole product lines whenever they feel like it (the awesome Squeezebox audio streamer line comes to mind).

ulimately it's a pointless argument as we never know what will happen in the future, but i would be massively suprised if they don't allow, say, the T300 & T500 to work on future consoles. i bought a T300 now (and highly recommend it) because there will be several racing games coming out this gen, i'll deal with future disappointment if and when it happens.

Sounds more likely that Logitech have already made a driver & Sony is not giving them a license to use it. Maybe because of the supposed Thrustmaster exclusivity deal, or more likely because Logitech won't make a new PS4 wheel with Sony's Security Chips so as to be granted a license to include drivers for older wheels.

Ok. At the launch of the PS3, did you think that Logitech wheels wouldn't be compatible with the PS4???

yes, a valid point. but if I'd bought a wheel 10 years ago and now it wasn't supported I wouldn't be too annoyed if I had to buy a new one to play the new console with. I'd probably be happy that I had a reason to upgrade.

I understand people's frustration, but Logitech simply don't care about consoles anymore, their business model doesn't allow for it. Thrustmaster surely won't go the same way.

That validates the decision not to support the wheel. The real solution is to sell your console and buy a PC. That way you don't need to replace a perfectly functional wheel.

Yeah, yeah, Logitech has ready drivers la-la-la Sony is so mean...

Let's be serious. They do not care at all for this issue no matter what little marketing guys say to keep a nice brand "impression" on users. Ps4 is not their market and 100% by Logitech choice.

Also to make drivers you have to licence a Devkit for the machines you want to support (i.e. PS4 and XB1). Costs money you know.

This could also be true. All we know is that we don't know.

I sold my G27 last year and bought the T500. PC only would have been an option, as is have a mid-high gaming pc at home. But all my friends are on PS3/4 and after trying the T500 (and F1 add-on) I see it more as a step forward because it simply is a better wheel.

The issue is that many users didn't buy their wheels 10 years ago. That's why there is so much frustration and anger surrounding this issue.

Would you be happy if you had to buy another wheel after 2 years use?

yes I know, it's just that you mentioned the launch of PS3 and yes, I'd be annoyed too, but it wouldn't stop me selling it and buying another wheel if that was the only choice I had.

now if Logitech turned off their Squeezebox server rendering every single one of the Squeezeboxes utterly useless I'd be enraged.

and then go out and buy Sonos.

I believe the issue relates to the force feedback technology that is licensed to logitech by this company

They want money in order to allow it to be used on PS4.

Anyone know much about crowd funding?

Exactly, the trick worked now so why wouldn't it work in 5 years. Control pads are never compatible so why can't they make wheels go the same route and make more cash.

Yep, this is my thinking too.

Buy a T300 for the PS4 and then in the future perhaps Fanatec wheels will get the exclusive license for the PS5..... Time to buy a new wheel.

I must say though, that if you don't mind the expense or are only interested in console gaming, it makes sense to purchase the new compatible wheel as soon as possible. At least then you can get as much use out of it as possible before the next gen console are launched.

cant afford to drop a grand on a decent gaming pc. plus i like my stuff to just work, plug and play instead of worrying if i can meet specs every couple of years. but i see your point, its just preferences.each to their own

iam not actually too bothered now as i got 200 back for my g27 and from what everyone says, the t300 is a step up from the g27. sure my set ups gonna cost me a couple of hundred quid more, but for the amount of use and enjoyment i get from driving games.its money well spent.200 quid for 1000's of hours gameplay is ok with me. still think we all got mugged off from sony/logitech though !

Even for Windows, the latest Logitech Profiler that supports the G27 is from 2010. The newer versions don't even support it (as in 'support dropped').

£200??

If you got £200 you're a very lucky man, as a G27 is currently £169 new and that includes a Logitech Powershell Controller.

You still got a good price. Well done. 👍

The bar on the Wheelstand pro doesn't bother me too much on mine. I guess that I could improve it a little by moving the pedal faces across but for me it really isn't an issue and I drive both paddle (left foot braking) and sometimes with the shifter. Personally I chose the wheelstand pro because it folds up neatly for storing. I hang mine up in the top of the hoover cupboard and it stops my partner nagging me about it.

If I were to replace my G27, I'd have to get the T3PA pedals and shifter too which is partly what put me off purchasing a T300. Thrustmaster really should have done a full on kit that came with everything, rather than selling add-ons parts. It would have made it more appealing to me anyway and far less wasteful too.

In hindsight, IF Logitech had jumped on the bandwagon with the PS4, gave us a G29 and got an exclusive deal, they could have sold vast amounts of hardware. The whole sticking point must be the Immersion deal falling apart, but they could have developed a G29 with a different FFB technology.... Missed opportunity?

yes, i agree, they should let you add a shifter and choose which pedals you can have as the wheel plus pedals and shifter is stupidly priced, they need to sell bundles (perhaps the will when the t3pa pros are released and as for rest, i dont think logitech felt they could bring anything to the console party.lets stick with pc's. either way, my g27 served me well, brought me numerous hours of pleasure, helped me to race better and took everything i threw at it.Just like a car......after a while you fancy an upgrade, just a shame my hand was forced

that may be an issue, but gt7 will be only on ps4, not on PC....:banghead::grumpy:
