Project CARS - Logitech Wheels NOT Supported on PS4

Well, after having some friends round who were very heavy handed with my G25, it is now looser than ever :ouch::banghead:. It had a tiny bit of play in it before, but it didn't bother me. Now however, it is starting to bothering me. It's 6 years old this month, so I guess it's done me well. I have a brand new & sealed G27 that I got off ebay for £40, so here are my options.

1) Use my new G27, & hope against hope that it's supported on PS4, then sell my old G25.

2) Buy a T300 RS, use the G27 pedals with an adapter, & sell the wheel & shifter to make some money back.

3) After doing either one of the above; buy a second hand PS4 to keep within my £300 budget. Maybe get a faulty one & have it repaired to save money.

4) After doing option 1 or 2; buy a second hand gaming PC for about £200 & hope that it will be powerful enough to run Project CARS at 720p on full settings (my TV is 720p max).

What do you think I should do?

Depends if you want a specific game on PS4. If you are not interested in GT7, then skip the PS4 part, upgrade to a T300 as in option 2 and invest the return from selling the G27 in a better graphics card. If you are excited for GT7 then go for option 3 after 2.

@VBR Maybe start with waiting for Project CARS to be released?
I'm not being sarcastic, just pragmatic. 👍

Anyway if you want to have a go at the T300 first, you realise you can come round for the week end? The area is also nice for walks and stuff... :dopey:

Since you already have a good quality wheel, the G27, the most economical option would be a second hand PC.

For what it's worth, I went the PS4/T300 way because I wanted an upgrade on both my dying PS3 and my unconvincing DFGT. You don't seem to need these 2 particular updates.

I can't tell you what you should do, but I can tell you what I would do, or not. I'd have a hard time pinning my hopes on a £200 gaming pc, too risky for me. To be that cheap it has to be extremely used or if newer, very underpowered. No warranty:yuck:. If anything breaks you have to fix it out of your own pocket. I'm comparing it to what was available here when I started shopping around last summer, it might be different across the pond. There was basically nothing under $500 with what I would consider decent specs and that level of pc wouldn't get me to PS4 territory either. The downside was always the graphics cards, as it was generally pretty easy to find an i5 build but it would be with an R7260 or a GTX750 which wouldn't allow me to get 1080p/60fps and the settings I want. In your case, going with 720p is a bonus because you only need less than half the graphics card you'd need to output 1080p so you'd be fine with either of those two cards or something simlar, assuming a decent CPU as well.

Of course if it were apples and apples I'd say to kiss consoles goodbye as the driving experience in PC sims is leaps and bounds above anything on console so far, and of course PCars is the game changer that equalizes the two platforms, but only for that one game.

I'd look around, see what specs you can come up with in a pc in that price range, post the builds in the hardware thread and go from there. For warranty and ease of use, the T300+console is pretty attractive on a tight budget.

I too own a DFGT, and "unconvincing" is perhaps the kindest description of it I've ever heard

I didn't want a T300 'till I found out I can just get an adaptor to run clubsports with it. With that in mind, my extremely tight budget, and the ridiculous price of a decent pc in Aus, I have chosen to go with a ps4 and T300, and buy the adaptor, clubsports, and a th8a when I have enough cash for the upgrade.

I don't get enough time to play a wide variety of games, so I prob wouldn't play enough games to warrant buying a good gaming pc anyway. So the ps4 will have the one game I'll spend most of my gaming time on, Pcars, and enough other games to have an occasional bash on something else lol.

The power supply is questionable indeed (probably a no-name brand that doesn't quite deliver what it promises), but should be good when adding a proper PSU in there (e.g. something with an 80 Plus Bronze or better certification).

Could you add a GTX 970 to that for 1080p gaming on Ultra/High?

In theory yes. The card is compatible with the motherboard and shouldn't take the system's power consumption over 350W according to Partpicker. There's enough ram and the processor is allegedly equivalent to an i5 running at 2.9Ghz, so it may well run high settings. I don't have the game, so can't say with any authority.

However it is a budget system and I'm not sure of the wisdom of doubling the cost while leaving potential reliability issues with psu, as mentioned above, and possibly cheap ram.

Thanks for all the replies guys.

I've decided to go for a Pre-owned PS4, a faulty one that I can fix to keep costs down. If I can find one for around about £100, the other £200 of my £300 total budget can then go on a T300 RS, that is if I can find one for what Zavvi was knocking them out for recently (£189). I'll then use the pedals & shifter from my new G27 with adapters for the T300 RS, & then sell the wheel unit to get some money back.

In an ideal world I would go for an i5 4690k & GTX 970 based PC as mentioned by @Johnnypenso, but simply can't afford that. And going for a second hand lower spec PC might not give me the performance I desire, so the best bang for buck option is a second hand PS4.

👍

You'll be able to buy an AMD system on eBay for around £300 that's a little better than minimum spec. I don't know what settings it will be able to run at 720p but I'm sure someone here will let you know.

This is the type of build you can expect, needs an OS which you'd be able pay for from sale of the G25.

That might struggle to run it I imagine but you can get a PC like that for less than £100.

@VBR if you can get a new G27 for £40 then I can imagine you getting something better than this: Link for less. I wouldn't be surprised if you can get a desktop for under £100 that could play pCARS quite well at 720p. Got laptop that can play it at 1080p for a bit over £200. Faulty PS4 I think is not worth risking time and money on as you can get new ones with games for quite cheap and used ones even cheaper. Most faulty ones seem to not come with the accessories and by the time you get a DS4 and potentially fix it, probably similar cost to a used working one and realistically only ones you could fix are just the HDMI port ones with a bent pin.

that was including my wheel stand pro aswell.i never liked having the bar in between my legs. iam going for the omega stand but iam still happy with the price i got. onwards and upwards !

If anyone is interested in the GT Omega stand I used a friend's while deciding what I wanted for my T300 + pedals, shifter. It was ok but had a certain amount of flex in it (not too bad) but I decided to get the Next Level Racing Stand from Pagnian. It's more money (I paid £139 although currently £149) but it is rock solid/practically bomb proof. No movement at all. It folds up and I store it folded but upright with everything still attached hidden in a corner to keep my wife happy. Everything up/down and connected/disconnected in a minute. There are also distributors in the States and I think it's an Australian company

Good luck, I've sent you a link to something which might be useful.

thanks. glad i didnt rush into getting the omega. this looks better, is it definately t300 compatible as it only says t500, g27 and fanatec ? also the wheel looks to be above the pedals. can the wheel be moved closer and/or the pedals further away ? ive got long legs !

when i see this pic, it reminds me how much i had to reconfigure my rig to find the right distance for the wheel and pedals to my gaming seat. to me the pedals look far to close to the wheel (almost under it). and when you want to move it further away you always create more height! keep that in mind!

It definitely fits my T300, T3PA pedals (also the stock pedals too) and TH8A with no modification. They need a nudge to update their website regarding the T300 (unless Sony need them to have a security chip too).

I'm 6 foot 2 inches 32" inside leg :) The bottom metal pedal plate moves away from you and up slightly and the pedals position on the plate can be adjusted. The wheel height can be raised and lowered at the angle you see in the picture. I have a "mid height" very comfy camping chair and my knees still don't hit the top bar. I would like a slightly lower seat but will use what I have for now. The stand can be expanded to a full rig so I could get the proper racing seat that connects to it along with TV/multi-monitor stand too but that's something for when I get a mancave (in my dreams).

It also comes with all screws I needed. The gear stick holder can easily be swapped over.

This isr review helped.

At around 8 min, they talk about rock solid stand. I see the base of the wheel moving. Just a little. I had that to my rig even worse and couldn't stand it. So I installed another metal plate on top of my "rig dish". Now it's much more stable but not rock solid. I'm very into detail and would have liked it to be even stiffer.
What about your rigs, are they perfecty solid?! And I didnt talk about the rigs that are huge like Darin in the video got one (with triple screen and stuff). I talk about moveable rigs like mine, you can easely put away or dismount in seconds.

Edit: after watching that isrtv clip above, I'm planning on doing a review of my rig coming the next weeks. I hope I get my english vocabulary right by the time I do this. :D why making a video?! Cause I'm so happy with the rig right now and it did cost me just around 150 euro. I tuned and added a few things and it was just fun creating a rig like mine. I want to get people to do this too and have a more real and enjoyable sim environment at home. I just wanna share. :)

As I have said elsewhere, I have a playseat challenge and a T300 GTE. The playseat is foldable and stores away very easily. I dont have the space for a rig like they have on isrtv so this choice was one up from a rocking playseat on the floor with a dfgt attached to a small table.

The playseat challenge is solid enough to sit in and takes my size (100kg :ill::ill::ill:!!!) with no problem. The pedal holder is adjustable as well which is great.

So even with my weight on top of this and the weight of the wheel sometimes when there is a really violent feedback the wheel stand table part twists/moves a little. Generally though it is pretty solid, possibly down to the ballast holding it down rather than the design :D:D:D

I would love to see your review of your rig!

The G27 was actually £150, but after another deal on a G25 the end result was £40 overall. I was doing a bit of wheeling & dealing! ;) I've been looking at second hand PC's, but researching all the specs to see if they're good enough is far too time consuming. I'm not very knowledgeable on the subject anyway. Regarding the PS4, I would only be buying one with the HMDI fault as you mentioned, as that's the easiest to fix or bypass. Saw one on Gumtree for £130, but it had already gone. Will keep on hunting though!

I got my G27 back in 2011 for £149.99 from Amazon, doesn't seem to go down much, £130 is lowest I've seen it on Amazon since. I got my PS4 for free and T300 quite cheap too if you count wheeling and dealing, I could be up by £30 in profit for getting it ;). If looking at PCs, cheapest way is to get a good base, something like an i5 2400, you can get for like around the £100 mark. Then add a low profile GPU for cheap like the GT 640 or higher end ones like the 7750 or GTX 750 or 750 Ti and you are good to play pCARS in 720p really well in your budget. Good luck on your PS4 search, PS4 with them faults don't even really need fixing, just putting the HDMI cable in at an angle gets it working. Maybe even Logitech wheels will work so you won't need to get the T300 although it is incredibly different steering wheel and worth experiencing.

Yes that's more likely. Or maybe something new from Thrustmaster? i don't think it has to do with Logitech, but this seems to become the general wheel thread ;)
