A gaming website posted this image, they talked of unproved sources from logitech saying announcement mid june (E3). RRP of 189 Euros

As i said i will expect it too under 200€ cause is the just the sum of old hardware. Not such a good deal considering that in Italy g27 is 180€ with shifter included... and surely here we won't have any new tech in it.

However still a good deal compared to the t300... even if this pretty excludes retrocompatibility of older logitech wheels.

If i will be able i will trade my t300 for this in order to save some money and for reliability.

If this wheel will be really released this year... well that is just bad marketing from logitech. No answer on older wheels from their customer service and no hints of this coming. Many already bought a t300 and others moved to pc just for project cars... they should have announced it before having the game on the market.. or at least stating they were working on something. The news was "logitech quit wheels market" and now they release out of nowhere a new wheel for ps4.. and way later the release of the game that driven wheel purchases.

5 wheels? You're single, aren't you?
To give you an idea... I own a G25 and used it continuously as PC wheel between 2008 and 2014. In the meantime I bought (and still own) a DFGT, Fanatec GT2 and Thrustmaster T500 for console use. I tried the GT2 as a replacement for my G25, but didn't like the sluggishness or the ergonomics so it remained purely for Forza and Gran Turismo. I tried the T500 for PC use and while very decent it has a bit more resistance (and approximately double the power) and I found myself still preferring the G25 for PC racing, since it was easier to correct slides due to the agility (despite being less convincing as an experience than the T500).

Then in 2014 I bought the T300 alongside the T500, as potential G25 replacement. Within a few hours I was sold... The T300 is only 1.5x as powerful as the G25 but in all ways it feels better to me: smoother, no rattle, faster spinning but crucially just as agile and easy to correct oversteer. The shifter paddles are much better, the pedals are pretty crap but more useable than DFGT ones.

I really have no vested interest in talking up a wheel, since I can't bring myself to sell them and so currently own 5 wheels... Right now I'd rate the T500 as my favorite driving experience and the T300 as the wheel I use when I want to have the most control over a car (holding slides, drifting, feeling the limits of grip).

Believe me, if the T300 had been worse than my G25 I would still be running the G25 with my PC.

'Tin foil hat mode'; MS straightforward excluded it on purpose so you had to buy a new wheel, but i suspect Sony also didn't really push themselves to have old wheels made compatible, so that people would buy a Thrustmaster in the meantime.

I just ordered the T300RS from amazon, had a few questions and hope someone could help me out. Will this adapter work on the PS4 with my new T300 wheel and G27 pedals? http://www.ricmotech.com/product_p/rmt-t500w2g27p.htm

Also is their a difference from T300 rs and T300 rs vg? confused!!!
This adapter will allow the Logitech G25 or G27 pedals to be used with the Thrustmaster T500RS, TX 458 Italia, T300RS and T300GTE wheels. Since the pedals plug into the wheel directly, they will work natively. Your wheel can be used with either the PC, PS3, PS4 or the Xbox One (depending on which wheel you own) just as the wheel was intended to work. Even the clutch works!

All Fanatec wheels for the Xbox 360 were wireless (but needed power for the FFB of course).

“G29 Driving Force is the definitive sim racing hardware for the latest PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PC titles. Feature dual-motor force feedback and helical gearing for quiet, smooth steering. Stainless steel paddle shifters and RPM/Shift indicator LEDs help you make crisp, fluid gear transitions without taking your eyes off the track. The separate pedal unit gives you natural, responsive control with a nonlinear brake pedal. Driving Force is built for comfort and durability with hand-stitched leather and stainless steel components. Built-in clamps and bolt points allow the wheel to be mounted securely to a table or racing rig, minimising shifting or wobbling during aggressive manoeuvres.”

As predicted, looks like a G27 with a new wheel.

Hopefully that is placeholder price as it is nearly twice the price of the G27 and more expensive than the T300RS .

For a gear drive wheel, that would make no sense at all and it'll rended it useless on the market. Hope it is a placeholder.

Everybody needs a wheel for pCARS and Asseto Corsa next year.

I'm concerned by wheel if it adds extra weight, will it lower FFB effects and make it overheat and fade quicker. Holding out hope the G27 will work fine on PS4 soon so no need to really change and hopefully also DFGT and other popular Logitech wheels are supported.

Sadly, I can't see older Logitech wheels getting licence for PS4 !
Think about it, Logitech releases a new wheel and allows legacy wheel support at the same time. The thousands of DFGT, G25 G27 owners say "thanks Logitech, I won't buy your G29 cos I can use my old wheel now"
It'll impact their sales so, IMHO, they'll make some excuse as to why the older wheels are incompatible (security chip anyone ) and promote the G29 exclusively.

What if you needed the new shifter to enable older wheels?

Chances are, the shifter will have a different plug on it. Logic dictates if you release a new peripheral, you won't allow older or newer devices use of them when you may lose money from it !
Its all about the money at the end of the day. Would you rather sell a shifter for 80~100 bucks, or a wheel for 300 (plus extra for shifter) !!

I agree.

Although it will make owners even angrier if that did happen. Plus Logitech still sell the G27, so they would possibly sell some of those too.

The G29 would be 'fully compatible' with the PS4 because of the share/options/PS buttons, whereas the G27 would only have in-game support. So anyone with a failing or worn Logitech wheel would be more likely to but the G29.

Time will tell....

Fingers crossed, the game devs will be able to implement drivers for the old wheels.

In an assetto corsa interview in italian it's pretty clear logitech wheels won't have legacy support and it's evident also from a marketing point of view cause nobody would go for the g29 which has the same tech of older wheels. However time will tell, maybe everything will work.

The customer base is the same, if older wheels will be supported nobody will move from dfgt, g25 or g27 to g29. Logitech created a new low-end wheel with old tech to fill the gap themselves created not supporting their wheels and which is not covered by thrustmaster cause their are using way expensive new tech at higher price. If they allow legacy support than they disrupt the g29 market potential. They quit the market and now they are coming back with this.. they won't came back for selling just few new wheels and old g27 stock on ps4..

Moreover logitech time to market has been terrible.. no info, no hints, no answers, nothing... pcars is out since may (should have been november of last year) and many fans moved to t300. If they would have told me that they would have release this new wheel i would have wait.. but nothing, not even now we have official info.. and f1 2015 will be released soon withoout logitech support. So you'll have also to wait for the games being patched (driveclub i think still does not support fanatec wheels..)

At least we have something cheaper than a t300 on the market and for just a game is enough even if made of old tech.. i mean you feel a lot of difference between a g27 and a t300.. but they both do their work. If i will be able i will move from t30o to g29 just for reliability.

Maybe Sony put Logitech under an NDA, that way Sony would continue to generate income from sales of licensed Thrustmaster wheels for a certain time period. Think about it; I doubt they give their Security Chips away for free! I think Logitech will offer support for some of their older wheels, just like Thrustmaster have for some of theirs. Logitech have obviously been working on a solution behind the scenes, they tweeted as much ages ago. I blame Sony for the silence, it's in their interests to keep us all in the dark, as we are then cajoled into buying licensed peripherals which are designed to line their pockets with our money. I'm so glad that I never caved in & bought a Thrustmaster T300!

I hope we will get support for the older wheels, especially my awesome G25.

:)

Fanatec wheels are not PS4 compatible. Fanatec instead released drivers which each game developer needs to embed into their game directly. That's a choice per developer and I assume that particularly first party Sony devs are unlikely to bother supporting wheels from unlicensed vendors (i.e. Driveclub and Gran Turismo).

In comparison, the T300 and soon the G29 are fully PS4 compatible, so I do expect patches to PS4 games to add the G29 support. However if you look at the lifetime of the PS3, older PS3 race games weren't patched to support the T500 despite it being a fully licensed PS3 wheel, so even that expectation is optimistic.

This is very true. I would think that the Logitech G25/7 range out sold the T500 by a fairly considerable margin though. So adding the Logitech drivers is going to generate many more game sales.......

I'm trying to be optimistic.

Quite possible, but it's also quite possible Logitech realizes the what the market perception is likely to be regarding recycling an old wheelbase with a new wheel, and to appease G27 owners they will make the old shifters compatible as a way of saying, "Look at our new wheel, it's $CDN250 but you can use your old shifter if you have one of our older models. Enjoy"..and in addition to that, they can say they are saving you money by not including the shifter in the base package and I'd venture to guess most people use the paddles anyway.

They still sell both the DFGT and G27 on their official site. therefore they are covered by warranty and support guarantee.

The concept of a new wheel using the same technology as the old wheels and not adding drivers for those old wheels would not go down well.

Agreed! Trying to justify that would definitely be a challenge for them considering the technology is pretty much the same.

Isn't there slight input lag from wireless wheels?
Yes, for digital wireless systems there is. It doesn't have to be much though, just a few milliseconds. I've had wireless mice that were just terrible, with long wake-up delays and laggy cursor. However I'd hope that a steering wheel manufacturer would shoot for something a bit better than that. In sim racing we certainly don't need any more delays to accumulate anywhere in the loop. Personally I avoid wireless wherever I can - wired gear is always superior in a number of ways.
