I don't why you're trying to convince anyone that a track made with photos only (PCars) will be as accurate ...just driver feedback and photos.
This track, like most others, uses geo data. It's not modelled from "feedback and photos". Photos are used to flesh out the detail, as you would for a laser scan as well. A laser scan is of course good to have, but it's just a reference, and recreating the track details takes track designer skill and time in both cases.

Way off on your analogy. You hire a guy to renovate your basement. He does great work but he tells you up front that he has a small crew and you only give him a small budget to work with. He begins to renovate and after tearing down a few walls finds some termites, so the project is delayed while the termites are cleared out. Couple of weeks later while drilling the floor to put up some walls, water starts coming up through the holes because the weeping tile is plugged and must be repaired. 2 weeks later it's repaired and the walls are up. Winter approaches and then you find out there isn't much heat in the basement because the ductwork is full of dust never having been cleaned...etc. etc. etc. In every construction/renovation project stuff always pops up that you didn't anticipate. Nothing every goes as smooth as you anticipate. This construction project by SMS is thousands of times more complicated than renovating a basement.

You point is the sensible one. The in the know one. I respect that. But my point isn't about the quality of the work. It's about the perception of the work. If you hold a treat out for a dog, and pull it away enough times. Sooner or later the dog loses interest an finds something else to chew on. When the news about the delay came out. I text a friend of mine who also has the game preordered to tell him about it, his response was a simple "LOL" That's the sort of perception the game is garnering.

I've stated before, I'm all for the delay. I'm just giving the views of the average Joe. The kind of person who doesn't visit gaming websites, or message boards. The kind of people who pre ordered based on what they saw somewhere at a glance. The kind of person that see articles written with titles like "Project cars delayed AGAIN"

These delays have "Stay away" written all over it for them.

Thanks. I ordered the limited edition from amazon a month ago, and apparently it hasn't dropped a penny yet. And it won't any time soon, either, as it's out of stock now.
So yeah, no refunds for me as it stands. :(
argh I didn't even see that they were selling the ltd ed, thought it was just Game. bit annoying but I'll just buy the extra cars at a later date I hope

Neogaf comments are reporting: cars going through track. Pitlane mayhem. Any info on that?!

Zitat:
The game needs more than polish, there are somethings that flat out aren't working correctly at the moment.
Zitat:
Problems with AI when it comes to pitting I've noticed, cars starting from the run off, falling through the track on certain tracks and wonky physics on unpopular cars. Stuff which makes me nervous about the release, so much so I've also applied for a refund too.
Zitat:
I haven't seen a car falling through the track in like... I don't know... a year?

The game needs to fix some problems, specially in MP, but saying it's half done or anything in that line is simply untrue.

Point is that we have hundreds of people playing it since ages and saying it's mostly done and ready, so it's not like it's an unplayable mess.

Far from it, apparently.

I've heard that at the time it was announced the game was delayed again, the Team Members received an email to say they were ready to distribute WMD members their copies of the game.

While not entirely true they notified us of how it would be dispatched on release. the reason for that was steam would allow the initial methods of release for each tier of tool pack. From reading on wmd the period in which a game goes gold is nowadays 2 to 3 weeks before release.

Sounds like they were days or hours from letting it go to print, but decided there was just too much to get fixed in a day 1 patch.
No I think they were at the stage before print when you finalise distrubition. They had to tell is as some wanted it on consoles.

If the thing are so buggy now, another month won't be enough.
You would be surprise at how much they can do in one patch. From now to May is at least another 20 odd builds.

Yeah, but the same thing was said after the March delay, when a few guys questioned whether a couple more weeks would be enough to have a significant effect on the finished product.

They have did do a significant amount however they clearly ran into unexpected issues.

I will still buy Project Cars, no question, but it's just hard to keep optimism and excitement amid several delays, and also rumors I keep hearing from the other side of the WMD fence that the game is underwhelming in its current state, especially physics wise. Won't know for sure until May now, but I was hoping to have an answer before then. Really don't want to have waited and waited only to find it's just another Race Pro :yuck:

Now I'm actually happy that the game is delayed, as I just realized that I will be able to play Battlefield Hardline for 2 months without having to focus on another game at the same time! :D Thanks SMS! :)

Have you asked yourself why these "Members" are still in the Project? They can criticise everything on WMD. Do i see a "movement" of these "i dont like it" members over there? No! And btw...they all could get a refund and get out in no time if they want. But they won't...because they are...whatever, need to get up now.

So a small time group like SMS has a delay and people throw bricks, but when PD did it quite a lot for the past few iterations of GT, many defended PD. "I rather have a game that is built right than a rushed one" though in the end they were rushed due to the several early game bug fixes . Not to make this a versus thread but that is one example, people give the big time devs a break when they do this but the smaller group that wants to actually become bigger than what they are isn't getting one from the lot?

Rockstar is another that has done this too.

...and just as easily, you could swap SMS and PD around. Some people will give X a break, others, Y. Some might give both, while others neither.

In related news, some people like vanilla ice cream. Some people like chocolate...

Guys lets please put an end to this discussion as you will never agree with each other.

Laser scanning is a good base to get the track accurate but it does not guarantee everything is right. Everybody should play whatever he likes. I think the Nordschleife looks good on all games in the videos above. Although, I prefer the (not-laser scanned) version of pcars over the Gt6 version because the Game itself feels better and is more alive.

Edit: Can't say for Forza/Ac versions as I never played them.

Laser scanning or not; a lot of it comes down to good coding and programming sense, that translates an actual track into a virtual environment.

Games like that are still released without delays today, because they're an order of magnitude less complex. E.g. your average mobile game.
