Yeah, but this can be handled internally, you do not have to make a public announcement.
Delaying games is common practice right now, either for creating the hype or what so ever. Making me sad :).

"It's done when it's done." - Thats what I would like to hear (or to get a proper project management system). Creating a game in close communication with the community and afterwards upsetting all buyers. Bit risky in my opinion...
I can't think why you would delay a game for hype. surely you would start the marketing earlier.

With game development you can't be it's done when its done. Otherwise you end up like dayz standalone. A broken mess with a ever slimmer chance of it being released as a full game.

In regards to its release date:
The release date is selected between meetings with many different parties.
Now what i will say is prior to the first delay in november. The game from mid october, was releasing two or three large patches between monday and friday. Most were larger than 300mb with fridays being larger than 1Gb. Now considering the size of some popular games the update size for that period was the equivalent to the file size of a game from the batman franchise or the total war series; they're big games with a lot of detail and function.

With the amount of data being adjusted, to me seems reasonable to think that was semi realistic. They knew they would need a day on patch. But delayed it so they could fix more bugs with marginally less stress on everyone.

See this game has not had much PR, The people that know about it just now are proper hardcore race fans. Could be they thought they needed more time to hype it as right after the delay they released a official video. I think were going to see alot more official videos in the next two months hyping up the game.

SMS said there will be a couple of in depth videos (the official ones). Did they say how many exactly?! We have 2 by now. When was the first one released and how much time was there between the first and the second one? When the release was set to April 2, would it be enough time to squeeze all (I personally expect around 6-8) into that time frame?! Just came to my mind...

Now I can tell you 100% the game was not delayed for hype. No one in their right mind would hold off a finished product that has taken 3 and a bit years to make just to excite more people. A delay only frustrates everyone. No one would gain from delaying a game for hype.
The official video is just simply a guide of what to expect in Pcars they're are plenty of videos similar to that. The only difference is Andy Tudor did a voice over and a WMD member provided the footage. He uploaded sooner as many WMD guys were asking when the next one was being posted.

Now could we please stop with the silly delay theories.

Why not? Hype generates sales! I guess we will see with the build up in the coming weeks.

Hype only generates unrealistic expectations, disappointment and fanboy wars.
A game can do well with out hype.
Look at some of steams best sellers. Most of these haven't had hype marketing.

SMS has a tiny budget to the point of a lot of the trailers and some of the press materials are created by WMD members such a Jonz. As result project cars isn't the one creating the buzz it's every one that wants it.

As WMD member on here I feel it is important to try keep the community grounded and have realistic expectations of the game. As such were regularly answering questions and making sure the information you see is correct. Misinformation and rumour only leads to disappointment.

So much this. After two freaking years of building up hype, I'm getting a little skeptical about pCars lately due to the background noise I keep hearing from WMD members and this "yeah, we are 99.9% ready but, you know, we decided that we need to postpone the release date for another month" routine.

Can we sticky this? Way too much of this lately
I don't see why not.
Being honest is in best interest for the consumer however as we know many big publishers use shady tactics to keep those rose tinted shades on for as long as possible. Which is very anti consumer. To the point I no longer preorder games.

Your a brilliant example of the effect of dishonestly.
I suspect you and many others have been stung in the past few years, wether it be gran Turismo or a another AAA game. Because you drawn in; the marketing probably also gave false ideas, but no one tried to keep you grounded. As a result when we said " look we sorry for another delay, the games 99% there but we want to iron out as many of the bugs as possible." The community then becomes extremely cynical about an honest statement.

I thought SMS had managed to secure publishers? So it will be the publishers funding trailers and adverts etc?

Does the general public see Jonz trailers or is it only us hardcore heads that take notice and watch them? My money is on the latter as i cannot see how Tyrone from the block is ever going to see them.

SMS self publishes and bandi namco distributes.
Jonz and a few others do a lot of the trailers we have seen on youtube. I believe they are kind of commissioned by SMS to do some of the videos for public release.

SMS is self publishing PCars. Bandai Namco is just the distributing partner

Is that right Willfred?

EDIT: beaten by Willfred, lol

Bandai Namco is also in charge of marketing.

Rumour hey? Please link us to one credible source that this could be true. Oh they haven't shown any XB1 footage + delay = they can't get it to run on XB1, 1+1=3. The fact is you don't know reason for the delay, I don't know the reason, the only people in the entire world who know are the SMS crew. Maybe it's not a technical issue at all, it could be licenceing issues? It could be a million things! Comments like yours don't help anyone, we are all disappointed with the delay, there's no need to pour petrol on BS forum rumours.

Cheers

You obviously didn't read this at the bottom of my post "And lastly, wouldn't it be nice if SMS actually told us the truth about what the real reason was? Wouldn't it save all this innuendo and supposition?"

Is there any clarity on the WMD forums already why they chose to delay it?
Would be nice to know ;)
Anyone? And if not thy should raise your voice and demand clarification

You are right, I have been stung.

Thing is, SMS is doing the same thing as others developers did recently. Just saying.

I'm still pretty much invested in this game, just not as much as I used to be. My cynicism is powered by the fact that I'm an outsider hearing that the game will be delayed in a monthly basis to the point that I'm expecting yet another delay by May.

I'm disappointed(but isn't everyone). I just pre ordered Project CARS the other day thinking I was going to get it the first week of April, but now I have to wait another month and a half. :ouch:

So a spanner in the works :D

So they are in fact in charge of hyping the game up before release like i thought?

Wrong! You as the consumer are reacting emotionally to new information released, which is all SMS... Bandai and WMD members do. The excitement (both positive and negative) of the consumer is what fuels the emotional choo choo hype train.

So it is the consumer who does the hyping, as they together react to anything about the game. If the game would be ignored by the consumer no matter of the most amazing information being released, than the game would be as good as dead... as far as a hype train goes.

So the hyping is really done by you guys being human and emotional about it. ;)

Dude, even if there would be a real reason that differs from what was said in the delay statement, what makes you think that we were allowed to share it here? There are things that ought to stay at WMD.

For the record, again: We dont know anything other than you and much as it sucks, the official statement makes sense.

Indeed. I'm pretty sure that 99.9% would be the best % of any AAA game released in recent times

Anyhoo, 'tis all wiffle-waffle. It'll be in stores when it's in stores and no sooner

I wouldn't know bro, "polishing the game" it is then i suppose. They've been polishing since last November so the end result better be sparkling.

@mister dog -- If you've been following along, you should know that when everyone says "polishing", it really means sorting out race-ruining bugs and glitches. It's more like "sanding"; everything is more or less assembled, but SMS have yet to put the lacquer on.

:) Well i figured that would be the explanation, would be nice to know if they had a major hiccup somewhere but i guess its confidential.

I'm over it right now. I was frustrated the day the official announcement came in (even if I nearly knew before). But now, I focus on work, getting my rig finalized (99,9% done ;) ) and playing gt to get a feel for my new wheel.

All cool now. No need to drive myself crazy over this.
