What made SMS think they could have potentially released the game back in November? It's a bit pathetic if you ask me.
It was goal set many moths before. And they were releasing massive patches 3 times a week. It was only until a month before did they go, we may not meet our deadline for a finished un buggy game.

So what you're trying to say is, in September (for discussion sake), SMS predicted there would be less than 2 months worth required for fixing these bugs. But in fact they needed 9?

I honestly can't see how some people don't understand why others are angry.

After reading the last two pages I must say I can't understand some people. People always complain about the games that are far from finished (assassins creed) and now sms does everything to release a game that is almost bugfree and you keep complaining. I can understand that you are disappointed but some comments here really too much. Remember how small the dev team is compared to the big ones. Gta5 also got delayed several times and yet it is a big hit. Same goes for the pc version and the heists. And rockstar is much bigger than sms with a huge budget. Do you really think sms are happy with this decision? They are paying the development with their one money right now so every delay is a well made decision to make sure we get a great game.

Point is that we have hundreds of people playing it since ages and saying it's mostly done and ready, so it's not like it's an unplayable mess.

Jeez... I just want to play the game ;_;
I'm all for getting the best possible product but I also wouldn't mind playing an unfinished build.
Just gimme access to the game as it is now!

I don't want to be "one of those guys" but it's going to be hard not to cancel the pre-order if something enticing comes along, just sayin'. Anyone who pre-ordered this on steam essentially still has $50 in their account.

Firstly the November release was decided in June or July if I remember correctly so with patches a week for 3 months with patch being over 250mbs is a awful lot of improvements.
As nlx said hindsight is 20/20. Please also remember they're doing something that no ones has tried before.

Now all of you who have preorder the game are risk free. If doesn't get released or you decide to cancel you'll get your money back.
We on the the others hand have money tied into the game. Some much much more than others. So moaning and mocking does nothing but lower our mood. Especially as the devs are funding the game with personal finance. Any delay leaves those guys in a even more risky financial situation.

So to everyone on this forum before you, moan or mock the devs try put yourself in their shoes.

*Hint it's an extremely undesirable place to be.

SMS were willing to chuck the Wii U and SteamOS versions out to a noncommittal "2015", so they must have had reason to believe they could have wrapped up the PC/PS4/XBone versions by November, or March, or the beginning of April.

It could be the WMD model that's slowing them down. Taking community input is great, but at this stage of development they're probably busy wrangling bugs/glitches with any change they make, when they would normally just fix and polish the game as it is (I presume). For nearly a year by my recollection, WMD members have occasionally indicated how bristly some of the devs have gotten on the forum about continued requests, demands, and suggestions. It's an unfamiliar process for a professional development studio.

Different sections of the crowd, I think.
They'll delay it again after announcing a May date.

You'll see.
I don't doubt that, but all this clairvoyance going around can only last for so long, because by now it's unlikely the game will be canned entirely.

For those miffed about shelling out for hardware specifically for PCars, having been burnt once years back, my rule of thumb now is to wait until the game you want is actually released before buying the hardware needed - delays can always occur and often the hardware can be bought as a bundle or is cheaper by the time the game is released.
Anyway, I know your pain.

The SMS/WMD family has heard a lot over the last few hours. My guess is they got our point quite clearly.
Now cancelling a preorder or not, booking or not some days off, etc... it all comes down to personal choices. No need to judge each other.

But let's not make this new and innovative business model stumble because we are being impatient (and I'm being impatient!!). If you think that Project CARS is the thing, if you've invested money specifically for it, if you are being objective and pragmatic, then you'll know where to stand. They deserve a bit of a stick for making us sweat :D but they also deserve a break.

So I'm sulking for now but I'm still supporting them.

Now it better be mid-May... :P

This is the SMS I received from the place where I pre ordered.
"Please Note Project Cars release date has been pushed back to the 16-05-2015 by Publishers. Updated order confirmations are being sent out. Regards."

The 16th is a Saturday so I highly doubt it will come out on that day.

Driveclub needed 12, and they released a game with loads of features missing. Hopefully PCars will release a Fully implemented game that only needs Car/track DLC.

Either that, or it's going to be an unfinished product.

A responsible developer would ALREADY have a planned window before announcing the release date, to iron out last-minute issues.

I think I get your point. But aren't we charged when the games is released?! Still have the money in my bank account. It is just a reservation or somethin. A commitment to buy.

With your examples you might give real money before the work is done. But with games?!

Or am I still not getting it?! :)

Err yes ive been charged sort of, I had sold some game to Amazon for apr £50 the funds were in their holding section then I pre-ordered Pcars Amazon automatically used these funds to pay for it leaving me around £5 so yes I have paid.

A responsible devolper and publisher won't release a broken game that take two years to fix. Aswell as never having the features they were meant to have.

A responsible developer would announce a games release date if they were 100% confident that it would be shipped out in stores ready to go. SMS should say delayed but not give an exact release date they should at least say we will update you when we feel the game is complete none of this messing around with dates nonsense. That's why I stayed away from DriveClub until it was half price.im not even confident the game will be ready for May anymore.

Already done, spent it on AC DLC and Skylines. I like skylines...

Yes you can add that to my suggestion.

However, that's no excuse to keep moving the date.

Why don't you ever hear T10 doing that? Or EPIC for that matter (when they were working on Gears)?

This kind of scatter-brained approach doesn't work very well for your PR.

You ARE going to run into last-minute issues; why not have yourself a 2 to 3 month window to iron them out, instead of moving the date time and time again?

Ah *** it, what's the use?

why not have yourself a 2 to 3 month window

Because every day of developing the game costs a ***ton of money - SMS is eager to get it on the market as soon as possible. Since it is not possible, for whatever reason, they just can't release it yet.

T10/PoDi are small wheels in a bigger machine and they cut features/cars/tracks to hold a release date in no time, with the difference that we, the consumers never get to know about it.

Kunos did the cautios approach and released a skeleton of a game, labelled it beta and everything is forgiven for them.

You don't get those issue because of the number of staff they have. A bigger budget means more resources this means more staff.
I believe SMS have around one hundred staff.
Which when break it Down into individual roles.
They may be at most 30 coders but of course each coder may provide coding for different sections. This means that they may be only a handful of physics programmers for instance . However T10 in 2009 had over 300 staff members this is probably now closer to 400. They have numbers on their side.
So if they make the same game and both run into the same problem the company with more staff will most likely solve it quicker as they can try more methods.

The icing on the cake is that I just received a message that my T300 is ready for pickup at my local store.
Thought I'd get used to the wheel for two weeks with GT6, so I kinda know what I'm doing once PCARS is released. Well, looks like I just got way more practising time than desired.

But on a more serious note, the March delay left a bad taste in my mouth which didn't really go away with this recent delay. What worries me a bit, are all these multiple short delays. Is that type of thing common in the business? Can't say I've noticed it all that much with other games.

on the plus side, the longer I wait the better chance there is for the price to drop. I preordered on amazon in August at £49.99, since then it's dropped to £40, now back to £44. they always charge you the lowest listed price so I've already saved £10!

A couple of short delays keeps people hanging around, one longer delay makes people start to look elsewhere.

Question is, do they make the may release?

Is there a way to look that up on amazon, or did you just check the prices form time to time yourself?

Although what I'm about to say is speculation so it may be totally wrong but it might help understand the delays.
The devs want a solid 1080P at 60fps.
Now I believe 95% of the leg work is done however their is something called the law of dismissing returns. i think the large scale bugs and performance increases are gone so the time it takes to get a small performance boost increase and fix bugs takes longer and longer.
thus the several short delays.
