You paid more tax on your 20GB than I did on my 60GB. It was $636 before the two year service plan and RR7.

Congrats on your PS3, but did you pick up any games?

Nope!:)

I didnt have enough money:guilty: :guilty:

But GT:HD is f' ing SWEEEEEEEEEET!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, it's $499 plus tax. That's the regular price.

Congrats on the purchase!
Ah, gotcha'!

Has anyone noticed any tearing on PS3 games? I ask because I have played several 360 games where the tearing can be quite severe, such as on Saints Row. I wonder if PS3 games show it too.

"Tearing"?

Lack of veritical synchronization. Parts of the frame will render before other parts. For example, the bottom of the screen will be one frame behind the top of the screen, making it look like the screen is "torn" in two.

Ah. I think I've noticed that in MotoGP '06 on the 360, but that's it. I haven't seen anything like that in RFOM, FNR3, or RR7 on the PS3, however.

I'm glad its only 2 months until the European launch, but come March, I should have one on Day One or a day before even. But when I get my 60GB PS3 through it will have been a long wait, but its going to be worth it.

Ah, so that's what causes it. I think it's very game specific. I've noticed it on Saints Row (very bad - so bad they patched a V-sync option into the game), Moto GP 2006, occasionally happened on Oblivion when I first got it back in March last year, but that was sorted after a patch and one or two others. Hopefully won't be an issue in PS3 games but I guess it's too early to tell yet. Though what Duck's said is good news.

Remember that one guy that STOLE one from his local electronic store before it launched? And posted pictures of it on his myspace and his "local forums"? Yeah, dont do that...

I would just import one....

Slackbladder aren’t you getting a PlayStation 3.

I hope so. But I'm not queing up for one nor am I going to make multiple orders and hope one sticks. My birthday is 1st May so I might get one around then as a present for myself!:sly:
But if I can get one on launch I will. It just depends on the number available.

Explain how you're going to get a European PS3 a day before everyone else can.
Some shops do get consoles or hardware out a day early, it has happened in the past with Microsoft add-on's for there PS3's.

HAs anyone played Fight Night Round 3? I just bought it, and it's AMAZING. I got resistance too and it's also tons of a fun when you get into it.

In Fight Night, however, I just started my career and made a dude who looks almost exactly like me. It's awesome. The graphics are impecable.

I've only played the 360 FN3 and some say one is better than the other. But I did enjoy the game. I liked the face customisation. God, some of my boxers were ugly as hell!
I won't get it for the PS3 though I may rent it to take a look. But I'll get FN4 for sure.

Of course they get them a day or two early, however, if Sony has listed a 'do not sell before this date' mandate, the shop who does sell early can be fined, or have sony withdraw all machines, or both. There are severe penalties for stores who sell before the release date.

Fight Night Round 3 looks better on the PlayStation 3, because the Xbox 360 version uses bloom effect instead of HDR, while the PS3 uses HDR.

I bet one shop will make a slip up, but as long as I get it through on launch day in the morning, then I will be happy. Anyway is anyone taking a week or two off work, to be ready for the PlayStation 3 in Europe?

I happen to know someone who is importing a PS3 very soon. I'm not sure where from, but he said it was £400 and should be here pretty soon. Hopefully, I should get to see it before March. :)

If I find out any more details on where he got it from, I will post up.

I didn't know MS makes PS3 add-ons.

Fight Night Round 3 looks better on the PlayStation 3, because the Xbox 360 version uses bloom effect instead of HDR, while the PS3 uses HDR.

IMO, the difference is very debatable. In some arenas, I prefer bloom on the 360, and on other arenas, HDR on the PS3. As far as graphics, the character models on the PS3 are better, yet the backgrounds on the X360 are better. Not to mention there are framerate drops on the PS3 in replays and when you land your "knockdown punch" (for a lack of a better word) and the guy is falling down to the ground.

As for which version is better, I have to vote for the PS3 version, if only for the sweet ESPN news ticker at the bottom and the better character models (which you're looking at 85% of the time).

...Then again, the 360 version has achievements and custom soundtracks. :indiff:

Considering this version has had an extra 10 months of dev time, it just goes to show you that EA isn't very good at improving games.

Duck - The frame rate drops are very rare. I play the game a lot with friends, and the ONLY time we notice frame rate drops is with massive combo's exceeding 5 hits. RARELY do we even notice a hitch in frame rate when the knock down punch happens. It stutters, to load up god knows what (but stutter, I mean a very brief PAUSE, once) and then runs fine...so I have absolutely NO idea what you're talking about.

Hmm, strange. I never get any framerate drops when I'm punching like a madman, so... :indiff:

Also, I just thought of another thing: load times. They're ridiculously long. There's a long one before the Start screen, matches take longer to load, opponent previews (when you're selecting a match to train for) are longer, etc. Everything was normal on the 360, no long load time at start-up, shorter overall times with everything else, etc.

Sounds like EA just didn't take the time to recode things to be efficient with the PS3's architecture. The Cell is supposed to operate similar to a 9 core processor, except one "core" is the "master core", for lack of a better word. It handles most things.

How much RAM does the X360 have anyways? I'm unimpressed with the 512MB total memory (256MB for system and for video). Maybe I'm just thinking more in computer terms and consoles really don't need much RAM, but I'd think 1GB would be good, 512MB (system) at the least. Again, I guess a console may not need a whole lot of RAM since its primarily for gaming. We would probably appreciate it with web browsing and other PC-like functions (especially Linux).

So, has anyone out there put a different HDD in there PS3 yet?

I plan on putting this one in next month

If so, what OS's are people installing on them? Mac OSX? Yellowdog? Vista? XP? Win98?

I am asking this because I plan on installing a new OS when I get that HDD, but im testing it out on the the stock 20 GB one.

Feedback much would be nice:)

I believe the PS3 HDD is a serial ATA drive.

Forget about installing Windows on your PS3, unless you found a way to make Windows run on PowerPC architecture.

Is anyone else disappointed in how BAD the wireless card is on this thing? I went to my uncle's house and had a tough time connecting to his network until I put the machine 5 feet away from his router station. PS Store was still slower than beans.

Fight Night is cool, though. My only concern with the game is the lack of custom soundtracks. If I have to listen to another commercial-rap loop or verse, my head is going to explode. Yet, the game seems so empty without any music playing. Does anyone feel that Fight Night was created for a black demographic? Between the music and the game itself, it seems as if EA is trying to target black people or something. My dude looks awesome, but I had a tough time trying to get him to not look like an albino black guy. The ring girls are also missing diversity. I know boxing can be seen as more of an "urban" sport, but they kind of went overkill on the whole theme. Musically, I would expect some kind of metal or hard rock song on the soundtrack; at least one. I've also NEVER seen a boxing match at madison square or the staples center that didn't have a cornucopia of ring girls or all different ethnicities.

EA Canada devoted all their time to the player models and the beads of sweat (lol), but they got lazy with the mentioned things. I also think that stream of spit/blood that shoots out of the boxers' mouths when they get knocked down is kind of ridiculous and fake.

Actually, I was very pleased to see how WELL the wireless works. I haven't had any lag at all. Now, the X360 on the other hand was nothing but lag, but that was to be expected through USB.

Edit: About Other OS's, you'll probably only find a few special versions of Linux that will work with it, although I've heard that somebody has XP on one. Even if OS X could work, it would be illegal I believe. It is illegal to run OS X on a PC, though I'm not sure on the specifics of that. That's a shame, I considered buying it until I found out about that.
