PS3 General Discussion

My exact thoughts when I first played. I was ready to break the disc.

Then I noticed my TV was displaying it in 1080p...The box just says 720p/1080i. So I dropped the PS3 down to 720p and it was all fine. Textures could still use some work though.

That's odd. I guess I have my PS3 output set to 'automatic' or 'detect' display mode because games that are 720p are displayed in 720p.

Mine normally does, too. I think something in the game is lacking and not telling the PS3 what video mode to use.

Why is Rainbow Six: Vegas so blurry? The textures reminds me of Goldeneye on the N64. Is this what the 360 guys call "next-gen"? Piece of **** 360 port.
It's a shame really... I don't recall the 360 version having any of that blur at all - only in the distance. It wasn't the best looking 360 game in existence anyway IMO, but it doesn't play too badly.

It's a shame Ubisoft have still screwed this up.

Has anyone signed up for this promo for PS3 owners, and if so what "exclusive" content do you get?

I really wasn't planning on seeng this in the theaters, but if they are offering some interesting exclusive content similar to other film promos, like BHS DVDs, I might decide to go see it next week after all.

Thanks.

Can somebody with RSV tell me how to edit my online character? I can't find how to change the face and other things that you do when you first choose the online option. My cousin was messing with that yesterday and made one...

Like My Bro with the Fro said, ports suck.

Damn straight. 👍

Anyone playing The Darkness? Besides the aliasing, low polygon count, and poor shadowing, it has an intriguing story and some very unique situations. Did anyone else begin to watch To Kill a Mockingbird while on the couch in the game?

lol, i just did a film and novel study on to kill a mockingbird.
Astonishing book & play & film. 👍👍

BTW: Universal Studios made an incredible DVD treatment for the original film... specifically with their latest "Legacy Series" which came out in 2005 (on the left), not to be mistaken for their "Collector's Edition" which came out back in 1998 (on the right):

At the 2006 Oscars I took a personality test that the Academy had put together which would tell you what famous film character (at least among the ones included in the test) you are most like, and for me the result was...

:D

Clearly their test needed tweaking, as anyone who knows me knows I do not back down from a fight very easily... although I am trying to change that, after all I have two little ones that I need to set a good example for.

At least it was spot on in regards to my dedication to fact finding. :)

lol nice:D. I have to admit though i'm getting sick of all our racial assignment's. had nothing but them for the last 2 year's, but now im doing an essay on dani filth(lead singer of cradle of filth). And next up were doing writer's, so im going to do Ann Rice(the vampire chronicles). It's a nice change:)

any way back on topic, does anyone know if the Ps3 version of NFS:carbon fully support's the G25(clutch H-gate etc), as i know it does on the PS2, but ive had no answer on the PS3 version?

Anyone know why my downloads from any PSN store have suddenly become VERY slow? It takes 2 minutes to download 1mb. I tried downloading from a website using the browser, and the speed was absolutely fine there, as is on the other computers on the network.

I recently built my own HTPC, and even though it was very bare bones, and with no intent on using it as a gaming platform, only as a audio/video player/processor for use with our home theater projector, it still ended up costing me over $750.

How did you go about doing this? I'm generally interested in this having given up on using Windows as a platform for watching TV more than 4 years ago (and three complete systems). Do you think it compares to the PS3 at all, considering the similar entertainment functions & abilities?

Following last year's CES, I was looking for a system to manage and distribute music and movies through out the house, as well as play videos and slideshows in the home theater. In addition it would also act as a secondary DVD source for the home theater. This allowed me to have special intro videos and trailers queued up to play seamlessly prior to a screening of a film in the theater.

The more I looked into it, the more I kept being told that I really should build my own HTPC as I would be able to configure it exactly the way I wanted, and at half the cost of a retail HTPC.

After getting a lot of encouragement from some fellow HTPC users, I decided to build my own. This was the first PC I had ever put together so I was somewhat hesitant, and honestly I did it mostly just for the experience as I was curious how it was done, and just what is possible with DIY HTPC systems, as they have certainly grown in popularity over the years.

I built my HTPC back in April of last year using the following parts:

(bought mostly through Newegg & ZipZoomFly)
  • Antec NSK2400 HTPC Component Rack Case
  • MSI K8NGM2 Motherboard:
    • NVIDIA GeForce 6150 GPU
    • 4x DIMM Dual Channel DDR 400 SDRAM (max 4GB)
    • 1x PCI-E x16
    • 1x PCI-E x1
    • 2x PCI
    • 2x VGA
    • 1x DVI
    • 1x Component
    • 1x S-Video
    • 1x D-Sub
    • 7.1 HD Audio Processing by Realtek ALC880
    • 8x USB 2.0
    • 2x IEEE 1394
    • nForce 430 1000Mbs Gigabit LAN Ethernet
  • AMD Athlon64x2 Dual-Core 3000+ CPU
  • Thermaltake Golden Orb II CPU Heat Sink & Fan
  • 1 GB Corsair D400 DRAM
  • 250GB Sata II HD w/16MB Cache
  • 120GB Ultra ATA HD
  • LiteOn Dual-Layer DVD-RW w/Litescribe
  • Gyration Ultra GT Wireless Keyboard & Gyro Mouse
Here is the core software I installed:
  • Windows XP Media Center Edition
(although XP Pro would have been fine as I never use the Media Center interface)
  • XLobby w/DVD Profiler
  • Theater Tek
I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to put the PC together. Frankly, erector sets from when I was a kid were far more difficult to put together than this PC.

In fact it only took a couple hours to put everything together. The longest part of the process was trying to get Windows to install properly... surprise surprise. It ended up taking about three hours to finally get Windows installed correctly. :ouch:

Here are some pics of my HTPC:

(I chose this style case so it would fit seemlessly in my equipment rack)

Without replacing Sony's XMB with LINUX, I'd say the HTPC is far more flexible and customizable than the PS3, but the PS3 is a much more powerful and better performing A/V processor... as to be expected. I have yet to use the PS3's new ability to access external media sources, so maybe I'm judging Sony's XMB a little too harshly. YMMV

Well now this is awkward.

OEI, recognized worldwide as the premier brand of strategy and action games, today announced that Fatal Inertia is scheduled to ship to North American retailers on September 11, 2007 for Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft.
"KOEI has been at the forefront of creating the most engaging action games, so with Fatal Inertia we're now lending our action game talents to the racing genre to deliver an experience that is as fun as it is fast," said Senior Vice President of KOEI Corporation Amos Ip. "Armed with an eclectic variety of weapons and racing challenges, plus elegant and intuitive driver controls, Fatal Inertia is quite simply bringing high-speed fun and excitement back to the combat racing genre."

"By designing Fatal Inertia 's gameplay around a physics engine it not only allowed us to create a truly different driving model, but it also helped us create a set of dynamic weapons with multiple tactical applications," said Lead Game Designer Michael Bond. "We've based many of the game's weapons on straightforward physical principles, and by doing so we're giving players the freedom to come up with their own creative ways of using them- ways that even we are still discovering."

Fatal Inertia is the debut title from KOEI's Toronto-based development studio, KOEI Canada. The team is led by Producer Takazumi Tomoike, creator of the Dynasty Warriors series, and KOEI Co- Founder and Chief Advisor Yoichi Erikawa, who under the pen name Kou Shibusawa is regarded as one of the world's top video game designers.

PS3 Exclusive -> Multiplatform -> 360 Exclusive? WTF?

This is like second only to Unreal Tournament.

Follow-up.

It seems like the PS3 version hasn't been canned... yet. It's been delayed indefinitely because they can't get the Unreal Engine 3 working fine on the PS3.

*looks at rainbow six vegas*

Riiiiiiight.

Like I said on NeoGAF, it's highly likely that the game sucks hard, and they're just dumping it out on the 360 in order to turn a buck. It's almost sure fire that if this came out in Sept on the PS3, Wipeout HD would smother it's sales and it would be a lost cause.

$20 says this game is absolutely terrible.

What's funny is, I was initially excited about it, and it just has failed to keep me interested at all. Nearly 2 years of development time, and nothing. It's going to be terrible, lol.

I started with HTPCs slowly over time, going back to my first TV tuner card in 1995, as a way to get into HD. The 2nd one I built had the best DVD image until the Pioneer DV59AVi, but using IR keyboard commands mushed into a Pronto...well, it just wasn't reliable. I never got into MCE, and I don't think I want to. I much enjoy the discrete codes of cable boxes and DVD players.

I think the XMB has a lot of possibilities. The only real lack is a cable tuner or DSS input, but that can be made up for with internet video. It can, provided Sony gets going with their much-needed iTunes competitor. After that, what use is the web browser for anyway?

I don't see anything in the Heavy Rain demo that is outside the bounds of what current graphics technology can do. This is a PS3 game, period.

Have you actually seen the E3 trailer?

Yes I have, thanks for asking.

The point I'm debating is that you think Heavy Rain will look like this most of the time. Now, if you were talking about this, you may have a point about it being possible this gen, but for the previous photo, no. We're not going to see that level of realism. Maybe on super powerful PCs, but certainly not on a PS3 at this point in time.

 Don't get your hopes up that the gameplay will look like a selective angle on a scripted tech demo... just because it's on PS3.

EDIT: Heavenly Sword demo has been confirmed (E3 surprise please!):

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=6912730&postcount=894

You do realize that was confirmed nearly 3 months ago during a developer interview, right? And that they are simply regurgitating what has already been stated? I wouldn't be surprised if the demo didn't make it out of the doors for E3. Honestly.
