PS3 General Discussion

I think it would be a good idea if the baiting and the personal vendettas would stop. Nobody really cares, why get wound up over a review.

I'm sorry but they were just simple comments and statements until Duck decided to blow it out of proportion. It could have just been said that he didn't agree and he didn't need to be childish. If someone its going to try and make it some kind of battle and challenge and personal then I will stand by my word and clarify my point.

Dirt for PS3 and 360 got identical scores yet other multi platform games with frame rate hiccups got lower scores. By the way I picked up Dirt today for PS3.

Graphics do mean something If we are paying 5 or 6 hundred dollars for a computer entertainment system with mad pixel processing power. If people only cared for gameplay there wouldn't be a PS3 right now. PS2 has loads great games with eye sore graphics, but they didn't have a choice.

I noticed that. IGN gave them both an 8.4, and on the 360 version under the graphics category, they noted some framerate hiccups, and under the PS3 version they said something like its a beautiful game, but no higher score was awarded to the PS3 version.

And this was just the day after getting the game.

In addition, even on 2K Game's own Bioshock forums countless people have said they finished the game in less than six hours on their first try.
That 6 hours was rushing it. You can only truly enjoy the game if you take your time playing it, which can easily double the playing time. Not many games allow you do increase the playing tme like that.

Gamespot gave Heavenly Sword ONLY 8.0!

Thats really odd as games like lets say Vegas got 9.0 and are really not as visually pretty as this game... Even Def Jam gets 8.1!

They said the score was mainly due to the fact that it wasnt long enough, that really shouldnt be a factor as a game may be quicker for some than others and as game reviewers its no wonder they get through stuff in afew hours!

Its an unfair judgement in my eyes... It deserves atleast 9.0.

http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/heavenlysword/review.html?sid=6178490

Also Gamespot are well known as been Xbox fanboys... if this was a 360 exclusive it would have got something like 9.5 I am nearly 100% sure!

My God. I detest reviews like that. Logically a game that last 50 hours (say like a Final Fantasy game) should get an increase in its score. But they don't. It's bull****. Personally my opinion is reviewers feel the PS3 is less successful than the 360 therefore the games are too. Kinda' like a fanboys mentality.
I have the game and I've played around 2 and a half hours and I'm near the end of chapter 2. Short?

I quite agree ,but i think they assume ps3 games should be twice as good as price of ps3 is twice the 360.
I Bought PS3 and don't own 360. For me ps3 is media machine that plays games. I assumed ps3 games would be at least as good as 360 games, but i like most of you have found out that is not the case with most of games. I have history in pc gaming and i thought console games would run good since they are designed for one machine. 30 Fps in First-person-shooter is ok but in DIRT its unplayable for me(makes me wonder how bad 360 version is). GTHD(60fps) looked like candy compared to DIRT(30fps). With PC you could allways get game to run in 60fps, just drop down graphics or play older games. Im bit disappointed with some console games runing in 30fps or slower, but i can not say wheter i would like eg. FPS game like Resistance in 60fps with bad graphics.

I wasn't pointing the finger at you Robin, tbh your post wasn't even there until I hit submit post. I was just talking generally about the back and forth antics over the last page or so.

I think I am going to get NHL 08 tonight sounds pretty fun from what I have heard. The only thing is apparently the framerate on the PS3 like all other multi-platform games from EA is not as high.

It get really POd when a huge company like EA is complaining about programming on the PS3 and smaller companies are making visually stunning games with no framerate problems. Now I for the most part regard EA as one of the worst and laziest gaming and developing companies

So despite all that EA badmouthing I am getting NHL08 because the gameplay sounds excellent. No 2k8 though, I heard it is almost the same game as 2k7 which I already have.

I bought Madden 07 on my Wii because I wanted a new NFL game, but this is why they don't improve, they don't have to.

I have actually now decided that I will not buy any new EA Sports games until I see improvement. Considering how little I play Madden and how unexciting it was, even with the Wii controls, I wish I hadn't even bought 07.

Just bought the vechicle pack for Motorstorm (Rally Car & School Bus). I have to say I really do like both vechicles. I might get Coyote Revenge VIP Pass at a later date, first I have to pay back my parents for the PS3 with hard earned cash...

What is included in the "VIP Pass"? For the U.S. its just one $6 bundle that includes everything. A good price for 1 track, 5 cars, new race tickets and eliminator mode.

I really like the Bus for the new Motorstorm vehicles, for some reason, it takes me back to my old Vigilante 8 days. ^_____^ I also really like the mudplugger Van and the new ATV. The new bike and buggy were just ho-hum and not really much different than the others. I would have prefered a new rally car or racing truck personally.

As for the poor reviews of PlayStation games, I've been noticing them for quite a while now. I think a lot of hard core fans (and by extension, game reviewers) really liked the Sega Dreamcast and when it went under, they blamed Sony and haven't really gotten over it. When the Xbox came along, they jumped on that bandwagon crying 'Death to Sony' and it's carried over to this generation. That's my theory anyways...

Interesting way of looking at it, Maven. I hadn't really thought of that, that the Xbox generation may well be comprised of disgruntled Sega fans who refused to buy into a Sony or Nintendo console.

I dunno. I had a Dreamcast, and it was fun while it lasted. But when the end came, I didn't miss it. I was in it for the games, and the DC just didn't have 'em anymore. It happens.

Dual Shock 3 'Confirmed' For TGS
http://www.kotaku.com/gaming/rumor/

Oh my god! Stop the presses! Do we even have presses? Anyway, according to the latest 1UP Yours podcast, Sony plans on unveiling the return of rumble at the Tokyo Game Show this week, with the Dual Shock 3 making an appearance on the show floor. If this is true it will no doubt spawn countless photographs of what will undoubtedly look just like the controller we are all used to anyway, but hey, it will rumble. Maybe we can create an animated GIF that shakes to help convey the full impact of the controller's appearance on the scene. Finally, after nearly a year on the market, we'll get a glimpse of the controller we should have had in the first place and will soon have the opportunity to pay an undisclosed amount of money for. Hit the link to listen to the nearly two hour podcast for more information, or just if you are very lonely and crave the sound of guys talking. Oh, and ignore the boomerang pic, it just makes me giggle.

Finally... but if the 6axis is already $50 I'm a little concerned how they might price this thing. Or might they remove something to make it cheaper?

I would hope they lower the price of the Sixaxis and then place the new Dual Shock 3 at $50. I really feel a little hosed here because I just bought a second controller recently. :grumpy:

IMO, it won't be a huge deal, since the controller will still be rechargeable, unlike the other two consoles, which either require a pricey add on for rechargeable functionality, or a plethora of AA batteries.

Sixaxis should end up being $35 and the DualShock 3 will be $50 is my guess.

Agreed JR, that's why i give the SA the advantage over the 360 controller. No need for batteries and it charges when plugged in.

Not to mention it lasts for fuggin ever. Of course, with the addition of rumble, Im sure that will cut down on battery life.

Does the SIXAXIS constantly use a tiny bit of energy even when off to be able to turn on your PS3 remotely or does it just send the bluetooth signal when you first press it?

I must say I think the SIXAXIS design is great, I loved always loved the shape of the PS controller and this one is nice and light so you dont get tired of holding it up and you dont have the mess around with batteries when it runs out which is rare because it seems to go on forever... I do want to get a rumble one though..

Robin

Agreed the Sony has one of the best designs out there when it comes to controllers and I'm glad they have stuck with it over the years. I'll probably sell one of my regular controllers when the rumbles come out unless they are a better price than I'm expecting. Then again you will probably be able to pick old non-rumble controllers up for cheap once these come out.

I'm keeping my current two and will get a DS3 when it comes out. More controllers means more gaming with friends.

80GB PS3 Now Shipping Worldwide

Success HK has today put online the new 80GB Playstation 3, the 80GB PS3 is retailing at a price of USD 549.03 (£275)

For folks in Britain thats a savings of at least £130 ($260) off the price of the console (and thats for the 60GB Version).

As always, it is recommend that you ship using airmail, it will cost around $70 or £35 and you should avoid nasty import taxes (especially if the company put sample on the box).

Remember that all PS3 Games are worldwide region free so no worries on that score and that the consoles can have the language changed to any language you want. (A Japanese or Asian PS3 will sacrifice PS1/PS2 region compatability but when the deals sweet do you really care?)

Import Consoles will only play Region A Blueray films but you will find that even in the UK the majority of films are Region Free too. The quality of Blue Ray films played at 1080 resolution is something to marvel at.

Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that it would release DUALSHOCK 3 Wireless Controller, a new controller for PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) incorporating a rumble feature, in Japan in November as a separately sold accessory. It inherits the basic design and functionality of the popular PlayStation controller, while keeping the high-precision, high response motion sensitive six-axis sensing system. Introduction to North American and European markets is expected in spring 2008. The added rumble feature, combined with the highly realistic motion sensitive six-axis sensing system, takes gamers deeper into the world of interactivity, delivering a more intuitive, realistic and immersive game play experience. The new controller will also benefit PS3 content creators, by giving them the ability to further expand their creative imagination. PS3 titles that are already in the market may become compatible with the rumble feature through software update.
With DUALSHOCK 3 and the attractive lineup of PS3 titles incorporating the rumble feature, SCEI will introduce more new ways of enjoyment that can only be found on PS3, and will further redefine the world of entertainment.

Yippee! Now I can enjoy rumble on GRAW2!!! I bet the dev's programmed in rumble for loads of the games (because they knew it would eventually happen) and now they just have to activate it through an update.

When they mean update they probably mean a normal PS3 firmware update right?
