[Update: It's true. We've reached a maximum of 100. Thanks everyone who participated. Your effort is greatly appreciated!]

We put a question mark at the end of the headline because we're not entirely sure if this is true. We haven't heard anything officially confirmed. The thought nonetheless is intriguing, so we want to see if there is any truth to this.

To find out, we're going to put our PSN IDout there and see how many friends we can hold in our list. Want to help out in our pursuit of truth and statistically counting our popularity? Then add us up! We'll update later in the day with our findings.

[Thanks Patrick F. and everyone who sent this in!]

From,
Chris.

And just when things were getting good with regard to the updates we get this...

...now its certainly not proof, but it would appear to support the rumour of PS2 games for download.

It would be quite cool to be able to download PS2 games but you can probably get the game on disc from ebay of something for a lot less... unless Sony added something to the online version like uprating the graphics and maybe adding HD.

Not everyone is backwards compatible for PS2, so I think this is for them. Otherwise, yeah it is probably a better deal to get the disc.

EDIT: Assuming these are recoded to work on a non-BC PS3. If not then this is pointless untill they stop the PS2.

I agree, I know that I can get a copy of MGS2 for £3 second hand, so £13 is a big leap above that, price wise.

The only thing that makes me doubt that picture is the description for MGS2, seems strange to call it a "Radical, new take" when MSG4 is out with much newer takes.

As I said, I'm not 100% about this myself, but if it is a fake then its well done. The description on the games could well be 'place-holder' text, as this is certainly not an official screenshot. Simply using the old box 'blurb' would be fine for internal demos (assuming it is real of course).

Cool! SSX, Red Fraction and Smuggler's Run are all definite buys for me. I think Smuggler's Run was the first PS2 game I got.
Smuggler's Run (along with Tekken Tag and that fireworks game - which I used to love - can we have that as well) was one of my first games on the PS2 as well.

I can remember being impressed with the sheer size of the environments on it.

TBH I just want GT2 official download, Im not bothered about anything PS2 as I own one already and have also a BC PS3, the only thing I could see this been good for is, for those who don't have a BC PS3.

COME ON SONY GIVE US GT2 OFFICIAL DOWNLOAD!!!!

Tekken Tag was one of my first PS2 games aswell, along with Test Drive (Fun back then, not so much now) and Army Men, Sarges Heroes 2.

Anyway, SCEA is denying PS2 games for the PSN.

Sony has already denied the rumors regarding PS2 games for the PSN. Sony's Patrick Seybold, director of corporate communications & social media, spoke to GamePro: "I'm not sure where the image came from. At this point, we haven't made any announcements, and there are no plans for PS2 downloadable titles on PS3."

Take Mr. Seybold's answer for what it's worth -- an honest sounding, and somewhat surprised, reaction. We don't know what to take from this and perhaps we shouldn't read into it any further as there's nothing really left to go on. Then again, the image in question belongs to the UK store while Mr. Seybold is with SCEA ... hmm. Anyway, it is an interesting response to say the least. It is a very different answer to the usual robotic auto-reply "we do not comment on rumors and speculation."

Fanatavision, or whatever it was called? I thought I saw it in the top left of the list.

As the story points out this is from an SCEA rep and the store shot is the UK store. And as EU members constantly remind us, SCEE has been working completely differently than SCEA on the PSN Store.

Plus, as the EU PS3s never had full hardware BC this could be a much more realistic option.

Yeah, I was hoping someone else would notice that someone from SCEA is denying something in SCEE,

Sony patents new motion-control, touch-screen tech

USPTO applications detail alternative input schemes for "handheld electronic devices."

Sony and Nintendo stand in polar opposition in regard to their outlook on technology in this generation of gaming hardware. Rather than rearming to match Sony and Microsoft, Nintendo opted for lower-cost components and alternative input schemes for the Wii and DS. Sony, on the other hand, chose to invest in hardware that has been as expensive to create as it has been to buy. With Nintendo announcing record profits and Sony fighting to get its games division back in the black, the near-term winner of that decision has proven to be self-evident.

Putting the touch in touch screen.

patentpic2341_screen.jpg

However, as this generation continues to play out in Nintendo's favor, Sony may be taking a few cues from its competitor's playbook for future iterations of its PlayStation and PlayStation Portable hardware. According to a pair of recently published patent applications filed with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, Sony is eyeing input devices that look to expand on current touch-screen and motion-sensing utilities currently employed in the gaming sector.

Though much of both patents are written in a suitably esoteric language ("The actuatable portion is actuatable by the actuator between first and second positions"), the first application justifies its existence by noting that while "existing touch screens are configured to receive a mechanical input and provide a visible output," they "are not configured to provide both a visible and a mechanical output."

The application then proceeds to describe a device that provides a touch-feedback sensation upon contact with a touch screen. The device described is not limited to a single screen, and may be used for a variety of applications, including "a gaming device, a phone, a portable media player, an email device, web browser device, or navigation device."

Racing games from the future?

The second application filed by Harrison details a handheld unit that transfers images from a second device through gestures. Once transferred, the images appear on both the handheld device's touch screen and the original machine's screen. As with the first patent application, the device can be a "gaming device, phone, portable media player, email device, web browser device, or navigation device."

Both applications were submitted for review by former Sony Worldwide Studios president Phil Harrison in January, but were only made public late last week.

Interesting, but GameSpot has sloppy reporting, and it is almost as if they like to fan the flame war. I think they spent their entire intro making fun of Sony.

1) Sony patents pretty much anything that comes along. They even have a PS Phone patent out that is designed to be a gaming phone and has the familiar PlayStation button layout when turned sideways. WOrd from Sony-Ericcson is: Not anytime soon.

2) Sony's gaming division is in the black, just not the PS3.

Oh for god's sake... I'm trying to update Superstar dust but it keeps resetting my PS3 every time I try. It done it when update 3 came out and took about 3 attempts to succeed, but this won't work at all now...

Edit: AT LAST it works. :dunce:

It's time for me to grow my PS3 collection so here are the games I'm considering getting:

Heavenly sword
Fear
Turok
Lost planet
Turning point fall of liberty
Conflict denied ops
Lair
Ghost recon adv. warfighter 2

Which of these games would you guys recommend me getting most/least?

The ones in Red are the ones you should avoid like the plague... That or you will get them, realize what you did, and want to shoot yourself because it was such an unforgivable mistake (not speaking from experience, well... unless demos count). The one in blue I'd recommend you get RSV2 or hell even RSV over GRAW2... FEAR is damn good if you haven't tried it yet.

Lost planet is pretty broken on the PS3, apparently. Not sure if there has been any updates since I played the demo though.

Turok apparently isn't that good.

Ghost Recon is pretty good, but Rainbow Six Vegas is too, so I'd personally put both on the list and remove the two mentioned above.

The single player in GRAW2 is excellent.

I agree, GRAW2 is really good on PS3, was my first game for the system.

On another note im having a problem with the PS3... I posted it in the update thread but it probably has more relevence here...

Has anoyone else been dropped from the UK PSN this evening.. I keep getting signed out every 10-15 mins and I get error code 8002AD23 which on the net seems to suggest some connection problem or problem with your modem.

I don't get it, my modem worked perfectly fine with the PS3 before the 2.4 update now its slow to sign into PSN and it gets dropped after a couple of mins. Could it be that the update reset some connection settings in the system? :nervous:

Whats going on???

Of those the only one that really jumps out for me as a great game is Heavenly Sword, especially if you enjoy cinematic stories like Lord of the Rings, and third person martial art style gameplay. It's strengths for me are in the incredible story telling and voice acting as well as some really remarkable visuals and advanced combo fighting system. It's weakness is that because the story is such a big part of the game, the replay value is not very good... unless of course you are in the habit of watching the same movie over and over again.

BTW: I didn't see Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on your list. If you don't already have it, I would highly recommend it as well. 👍

Green = Yes
Blue = Maybe/I haven't played it
Red = No

Heavenly Sword is short. I borrowed it from a friend, but kept my save file because I do want to get it when I can get it for under $20.

Fear, I hear both good and bad on.

Turok is looking to be one of the worst FPSs this generation. Check out the Zero Punctuation thread for Yahtzee's review of it. I felt the series went downhill when it went from accidentally going back in time to.....wait for it....Space Marines on a planet at a prehistoric state in its ecosystem. Space Marines in a jungle, now that's new....

Lost Planet for me isn't all it seems to be on other systems. But many people have said that it is a bad port for PS3. Certainly wouldn't be the first time that happened.

Turning Point and Conflict Denied I haven't played.

Lair. Ah Lair. Be sure to get the analog controls patch. Lair had all the promise in the world and all the parts separately look like they should come together to form a masterpiece. I still don't know what it is exactly that made this game seem kneecapped to me. As much as I wanted to, I couldn't like it. First the Sixaxis-only controls turned me off. Then I couldn't get into the story. Here is the real kicker: I love dragons. I am one of two people I know that watch Reign of Fire because I can ignore all the bad just because it is dragons. The Dragonriders of Pern series is one of my favorite book series (now that would be an awesome game). I mean, everything should have made me LOVE this game. And I didn't. Anyway, you may want to give this a rent first, if you haven't played it yet. One of the stores has a demo, I think.

GRAW2 is a good game. Can't be argued. I don't even get into those games and yet I can tell you it is a good game.

advanced combo fighting system.
Fro me this was both a plus and negative. When I first saw it I thought that it looked like Tekken's combo system. Big deal. Then I played it a bit and realized, not many action adventure games have gotten that in there though. That is a big deal. And right when I was admiring how awesome these combos were and how well this could be used for boss fights I get a quick-time event (Press X to duck). So they gave me this awesome combo system, and even a level where I fight an entire army by myself, and then ruin it by having the real challenges dumbed down to a simple matter of timed button matching with on-screen directions to guide me through it. Really, had it not come with the combo fighting system it would have worked better, but then it would just be God of War with a girl.

It's weakness is that because the story is such a big part of the game, the replay value is not very good... unless of course you are in the habit of watching the same movie over and over again.
You can collect tokens. It is amazing how if this kind of thing is in-game no one cares, but put it on display in your user profile and suddenly everyone wants them. And you can unlock a much, much, much harder difficulty mode.

BTW: I didn't see Uncharted: Drake's Fortune on your list. If you don't already have it, I would highly recommend it as well. 👍
