PS3 General Discussion

This lawsuit sure is dragging on and on...... $90million sure sounds steep, but I wonder if some sort of deal can be worked out, so Sony can put back the rumble features on the PS3 controllers.

Wow people who cry about the price are really just big baby's....
Say that to people who really want one but can't afford it, like me. I'm saving up for a car, and I'm not going to drop $800 (60GB PS3 + games + controllers + accessories) on another game console. Now, if money was no object, and I had $20,000 to spare, I'd buy one on launch day, with no second thoughts.

:indiff:

I agree. I want one too, not just as the PS3, but as a Blu-ray DVD player. But 500 bucks for the system and another couple hundred for additional controller(s) and games is not an option to a lot of people, including myself. I do think PS3 is priced attractively for what it gives you. But realistically, $499-$599 is out of reach for many gamers.

The PS3 is free to play online, the XB360 is not, over a couple of years your XB360 + the cost of playing online will bring the costs of both consoles to a similar price. The average person owns and uses a console for 3 to 4 years, over 3 to 4 years the cost of and XB360 premium pack and playing it online will be higher than the cost of the 60GB PS3 and playing that online.

And no, you don't need a recharge kit for the PS3's controller, you just plug it into the PS3 via USB to charge it or to use it wired. Sony has said rather bluntly, the PS3 will have all you need to use it (both the 20GB and 60GB models) in the box.

$1100 Canadian is only £525, your 60GB PS3 will cost around £70 less than ours £70 is almost $150 Canadian, you think you have it bad ;).

Darn...

It's freaky in UK

British consumers are used to paying more for their consoles (although traditionally the U.K. gets identical or lower prices compared to Europe). Here's a breakdown of the U.K. premium over U.S. and EU prices:
  • £109 more than the U.S. "Premium" PS3: the U.S. price is $599 which converts to £316. Take this away from £425 and you're left with a £109 premium.
  • £20 more than the EU "Premium" PS3: the EU price is 599 EUR which converts to £405. Take this away from £425 and you're left with a £20 premium

Go Go UK. 👍

They said EXACLTY the same thing about the PS1 when it came out. ;)

I think that anyone that claims the XB360 is better value then goes and buy's one plus a 4 year subscritption to their online service is a dince, sure it's fine to prefer the 360 but people slagging off the PS3's price arn't looking at the overall picture. I bet the PS3 pad's are cheaper than the 360's as well despite having that motion sensor inside, the rumble feature probalby costs more to incorporate thanks to (Tha_Con mentioned this earlier) the premium that has to be paid to use the technology as well as the actual cost of implementing it. All in all, the PS3 IS a bargain, £4400 is a lot to spend in one go, but in the long run, I think most people would save money with the PS3.

Yeah, I agree. You really think Mr Deap don't have to $$$$ to buy a PS3?

Though, I won't rush in like I did with the 360. I'll wait until a must get game on the PS3 come out & hop I have the PS3.

MISC:
Almost all the games are online on the 360. Though, online gaming & offline gaming is different. Though, it might be not the case with the PS3. Do you have an idea how long last an online game?

I don't play all my games combined for 10 hours a week, I'm much more into movies, that's one reason I like the Blue-Ray on the PS3. I get what your saying though, logging onto an online game tends to take up more of your time than having a quick blast in single player, quick blasts are few and far between in online gaming.

Nah, what's long in FFXI is how long it take to run to another place.

Though, I didn't pop FFXI for a long time now. I spend too much time watching anime on my PC.

Right but I said that after reading the prices of other consoled with inflation. Plus I think most older gamers(older than me) already have cars so by baby's I mean young still in school etc.. I'm saving for a newer car(I dont need a new car mine is 2 years old) but that wont hurt me saving for ps3. Set a side $50-60 dollars a month for 6 months and whats been saved should be more than half of what you need. $15 a week put aside is not hard to do. Plus I bet at least 40% of buyers will not be paying cash. Maybe Sony will offer finance options

I don't think Sony will offer finance on a PS3 but certain stores may offer a deal themselves. But Finance is like paying by credit card, you pay in smaller ammounts but more overall, I don't see the fuss myself, but I'll probably pay cash.

my smiley face was forgetten. I wasnt serious but you can bet would be buyers should do the right thing and not bring cash. Many people were mugged for their Xbox360 last year. I'll be paying cash too but if there are not big shortages I'll get mine mid day and not early morning or late at night.

I remember camping out for the PS2. I had about 500 in cash, and this one guy was asking if people brought cash. When he asked me, I said, "No. But, I brought my pistol, so I can 'earn' some money if I need it." He went over to his 'friend' and whispered, "Dude, not here. That dude over there has a gun." They left and never came back. They looked like bums, so you never know what they were up to. Some people heard what I said and got nervous. So, I told them I didn't have a gun, but I did. They joked around about how I was going to 'earn' some cash. It was a fun time.

But, another guy there was asking if people brought cash. I again said no and kept an eye on him. When in line to pay about 7 hours later, i pulled out my wad of twenties, and he goes, "Hey... I thought you didn't bring cash?" I said, "I didn't. While you guys were asleep, I robbed a liquor store." During the night, I stayed up while others slept for a few hours. It got a laugh from everybody except the Circuit City manager who was standing near the checkout line. When she walked away, everybody started laughing.

She didn't like me, anyway. When she started to open the front door to the store, she made a speech how "we should act appropriately" when in the store. So, jokingly, I said, "As soon as she opens the door, let's knock her down." That got a laugh, but she didn't think it was funny. I'm sooooo bad... :D

Interesting story Solid. Are you gonna do it again this year?:odd:

Stores inside malls are safer. Thats where i waited from 5am to get my Dreamcast. The thought of being mugged never accured to me(then again I am a 6'1" 1/2 black male, people were worried about me:)), maybe thats how people end up victims.

That's a smart way to go. Especially if the mall security is there covering the exits. Sounds good. Malls here close at night, so no dice. In fact, mall security was in charge at the parking lot we where at and ordered us to leave. I refused, and then everybody followed suit. But, we took the security guy's phone number and promised to watch over things. Yep, Solid Lifters is a defiant one who's impossible to intimidate...

Nope. Actually, I want to try pre-ordering one this year. But, we'll see. I haven't made my mind up yet.

"US stores begin game preorders
by Dusty Stokes

Game Stop, EB Games, and Software Etc have started accepting reservations for PlayStation 3 games.

Today, two games were added to the list of title's available for preorder at Game Stop stores nationwide. Those two games are Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8. Both of these titles say November as the release date and are priced at $59.99.

When asked about the prices, the manager at my local Game Stop said that there is no confirmation that this is what the games will actually cost, but is a spot holder of what the company is anticipating the games to cost.

To preorder a game at Game Stop costs $5.00 and goes towards the price of the game. So go out and start reserving your games!

Here are some tips to remember when preordering:

*Preorder fast, if a game becomes extremely popular, and lots of reserves are placed, it's first come first served. You may get pushed back a shipment if you wait too long. This is very important for PS3 games because Blu-ray production may hinder the number of games available.

* Don't forget your preorder! Pay the game off before you forget. This way, you can walk in, grab your game, and walk out without any hassles.

* Game Stop has recently started doing a game protection plan service. For $3.00, they will guarantee your game for a full year. This protects against scratches caused by yourself, as well as your system (Xbox 360's are known for making circular shaped scratches on discs). Discs that are shattered or broken in half, however, are not covered. This is highly recommended, especially since games are getting expensive.

* As soon as it's available, be the first to preorder your system. With 2 million consoles to ship across the world, supplies will be very limited. Therefore, to get one at launch, you are going to have to be near the top of the list. Also, pay off your system BEFORE launch. If you cannot get it paid before November 17th, you are likely to be bumped down the list, and replaced by someone who has paid their's off.

* Extended guarantees are going to be preordered for the PS3. This will be $60 and is for one year. When Sony's warranty is done (probably a 90 day guarantee) the Game Stop warranty will start. Very simple, if your system has problems within the year, they will replace your system. A must have for a $600 system!

* Don't forget accessories! Controllers especially! They are all going to be available for preorder soon too. Don't forget these! Game Stop offers extended guarantees for controllers as well. No word yet on price, but it is for one year. If you break one, they will replace it. It's a good deal

To clear any confusion, at this time, only the two games, Call of Duty 3 and Tony Hawk's Project 8 are available for preorder. As soon as more is added to the reserve list, we will report it, so check back often!"

Good info, but I'm not in full support of GameStop. They are not reliable here in SoCal. But, then again, no retail store is. It looks like GS is going to honor Sony's request and are not taking pre-orders for the console.

The grocerie store don't like me when I buy my can of "Coke" with my Credit Card. :sly:

I have a limited transaction on my debit card for a small fee. Credit Card is no fee with unlimited transaction.💡

I save about 10$ each month.

Quick question, are people able to play ps3 through normal tv's? the non-hd ones. and not over 1000p or 1000i(or whatever they call it). Thanks in advance.

Yes, you will be able to play PS3 games on normal TV:)

Yeah, the 600 dollar one comes with both the AV port and HDMI port.

The AV port will connect with either composite or component (analog HD) connections, whereas, if you had HDMI on your television, you would just forget about the AV port all together and just use an HDMI connection which transmits HD signal and audio in digital format.

Actually, you should go from the PS3 to your home receiver, then video only to your HDTV set. But, not many have a HDMI home stereo receiver. I don't. But then, I don't a HDTV with HDMI.

But, you could do it your way, too.
