PS3 General Discussion

Yes I have, thanks for asking.

The point I'm debating is that you think Heavy Rain will look like this most of the time. Now, if you were talking about this, you may have a point about it being possible this gen, but for the previous photo, no. We're not going to see that level of realism. Maybe on super powerful PCs, but certainly not on a PS3 at this point in time.

Um, both screenshots are from the same trailer.

I think what Duck is attempting to say is that while the first highly detailed pic is likely limited to cut scenes, while the second less detailed pic is likely what we might see in actual gameplay... However, both are quite possible with the PS3.

With Blu-ray, incredibly detailed high-def cut scenes are not just possible, but easily implemented, and while the PS3 is certainly capable of rendering actual gameplay in 1080p, as games that are already out have proven that, the limitation is primarily in the hands of the developers, not the PS3.

It takes a tremendous amount of time and money to create a game with as much detail as one might see in a 1080p film, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible... it just means that currently it is not cost effective. When it becomes cost effective, the PS3 will not only have the capability, but it will also have the disc storage capacity required for such highly detailed games.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying. Heavenly Sword already proves we can have highly detailed close-ups in cutscenes, but like Heavenly Sword, that detail doesn't translate into gameplay.

So, all of a sudden, games are being divided up between cutscenes and gameplay? It's the same game engine, its the same graphics. If I watch a cutscene in Oblivion, will the graphics be different when I start to play? No.

I have no idea what you guys are even talking about anymore. Heavy Rain looks great, it's coming out for PS3, and it's the type of game I expect for PS3 and those games are the reason why I don't plan to purchase a 360.

****.

Oh, God. Don't start with this terminology bull****. The in-game cutsenes in, let's say Final Fantasy X, are the same as gameplay. However, the pre-rendered FMV sequences are not.

IMO, the E3 trailer for Heavy Rain is in-game, or it wouldn't have been a technology demo for Sony.

You're painting everything with too broad a brush. We're just telling you how it really is.

Note: the following screenshots are real time, running on actual hardware.

See what I'm talking about?

The difference is that while both screens are running real time, in-game on PS3 hardware, the first screen is using about the same amount of power as what is going on in the second screen, but it only has to work on that face. That's why there's depth of field, extreme detail, unique facial expressions, etc. You're not going to see that at all when you're beating up the bad guys since the PS3 has to work with an arena with a ton of enemies (among other things), instead of a face.

Hope I clarified.

Hope I clarified.

No, you have not.

Now the arument is about visual detail and depth of field? You're ****in' kidding me? I'm sorry, but it's the same ****in' game with the same ****in' graphics.

Heavy Rain looks ****in' great. I'm done. 👎

Solid, Do you honestly think that a game will come out that looks as good as the Heavy Rain Demo, all the time, during all the gameplay??

Final Fantasy is the best example in the world. Watching the opening videos and cutscenes and then actually playing, are like two completely different worlds. And, by the way, no one here thinks that the Heavy Rain demo doesnt look good. so quit saying that. All that everyone is saying is that the heavy rain demo is like the opening videos and cutscenes of games. Not the actual gameplay. calm down.

Hell, even in Gears of War on the 360 in cut scenes the characters looked better than gameplay, and that was in-game engine (yes, no way as good as that Heavy Rain image). But the framerate wasn't exactly the smoothest until they were lowered for the gameplay again...

I agree with everyone else - I doubt that's the detail we'll get during gameplay. Cut scene most probably.

Does anyone else keep getting knocked off the PSN in the XMB (Friends List)?

It is odd, because I will get a message about a server connection error or a DNS error, it changes, but if I am in-game, such as GT:HD or Super Stardust, or on teh Playstation Store it stays logged in and updates leaderboards and whatnot, even though when I exit the game my XMB says I am logged out. I have even been using the Internet browser or downloadinga file and gotten the message, but not lost my Internet connection or had Folding running and updating WU data when it happened and not had an issue. The only time my whole connection went down was when I had to reboot my modem and router, once.

So, is this a common thing or is something with my WiFi or connection acting weird? I'm worried that once I try some online multiplayer I will get knocked off or it may screw me up once Home comes out. If it is something on my end I would like to get it resolved to prevent other possible complications.

It sounds like something similar to what I had. Do you have Media Sharing enabled? You'll find out in the Network Settings on the XMB. If you do want to Media Share with another PC, then you'll have to look around on how to set up your router properly to prevent it from rebooting.

If that isn't the issue, in general, errors like those are a common occurrence. Check Playstation's official forum in the PS3 Network sub-section, there are loads of people with issues... It could be router related, ISP related, or just Sony themselves.

Give Sony some time, and they'll eventually fix a majority of these issues. Just sometimes they're doing more harm than good, as my problems come and go after some Firmware updates.

This might be it. My PC will come and go randomly as well.

I'll have to check it tonight. It just seems odd that it only affects things from the XMB and so far nothing else changes.

Don't know if this has been posted somewhere already:

Press conference, trailers, videos available for download

SCEA has revealed its plans to offer PlayStation Network coverage of the E3 Media & Business Summit.

Consumers will be able to download E3 content onto their PS3 consoles directly from the PlayStation Store, including the entire SCEA press conference to be held on July 11th. A variety of game trailers, videos, and other editorial content from the show will also be made available.

In addition to the downloadable content available through the PlayStation Network, consumers can follow E3 2007 through daily content on Playstation.com and the official PlayStation Blog.

Is there an E3 2007 thread on GTP?

that's pretty effing awesome, I hate staring at a computer screen for something like this. Downloading it from the PSN will make it just like watching it on TV, because you are

This is because the Media Sharing is only activated when you go onto the XMB. There's no use for it in any other application. Well, at this time anyway.

I understand why the media sharing would lose connection with my PC like this but why is it that my PSN keeps signing out on the XMB menu, but when I go into a game it stays logged in until I quit the game?

Because the Media Sharing isn't active anymore when you're in the game, thus your router won't reboot itself. When you quit onto the XMB, straight away your PS3 will activate the Media Sharing in the background, causing your router to reboot.

Is there an E3 2007 thread on GTP?

This was revealed a couple of days ago but was only considered a rumor. OK, so it looks to be true. Great news.

Oh, no E3 thread, so far.

I put Killzone into my PS2 the other day and found myself seriously disappointed. I enjoyed the game originally but yesterday it felt so slow and rough that I could barely play the game. :ouch:

Of course, the graphics still looked great and so it got me thinking... I can't wait for the PS3 and KillZone2 just so the game will be able to run on a system that can keep up with the demand from the game.

Any way, just wanted to drop in and mention that I will be keeping an eye out for new KillZone news as well as GT5 stuff (neither of which I expect to see much of at E3 but you never know).

Erm, Sony is having an entire 2-and-a-half-hour event at E3 showcasing Killzone. We're going to hear a ton about it. GT5 could be a different story, though.

If Kaz is giving interviews to Car & Driver they better darn well have some news at E3.

Unless they have determined GT5 is now just a car fan showcase and not a racing sim video game.

But remember, E3 is 'cancelled' j/p :P

Honestly, I'm only excited for a few games at E3, I'm just waiting for my Warhawk and Uncharted to release :indiff:
