Nah I think the reasons you send them out now are perfect. Aww :(

I don't see the big fuss about safety cars, but I would like them kept to as few as possible, as done in real life usually.

I don't favor giving laps back though, I didn't know that was included, I think being lapped should be the one spot from which you could potentially stay out and pass the leaders when they pit, gaining your lap back and racing back around to catch up, just as in real life.

And yes, I got lucky as hell today overall, from almost a full minute down, to what should have been second, but I ran wide and clipped the reaching wall, getting passed by cicua by a hair before the line, holding Tim off by just as little.

I'll probably leave this alone. Not perfect but good enough.

Did you change much from this? I was watching you before I left he room. I'm taking the final corner at about the same speed but you pick up speed so much faster down the straight.

So now that I've had some nice time with a BRZ and enjoyed the 80 degree weather, I guess I can come back and defend myself here.

I implemented these things to not only add some realism, but to make it more exciting. Nobody is going to lie and say that they don't appreciate a second chance for a good finish after making a mistake earlier in the race. Same goes for getting a lap back. It's all big and nasty when someone running up front has to give a competitor their lap back, but when it just happens to be them down a lap, I'm sure they would look forward to getting that lap back.

As far as safety cars go, I think it's settled then. Safety cars for large wrecks only, case closed. Single car wrecks, no matter how large will no longer bring out the SC and those drivers will just have to deal with a bad finish.

Everyone knew when you signed up here what the rules were and that the whole point of this season was to go full tilt realism. These kinds of things happen in a real race, and that's the kind of stuff I was looking forward to dealing with. But if everyone's going to cry about it, then I really don't see any point in continuing.

Even though the cautions helped and killed me, I would hope we keep them.
If we didn't have them it would have be a long race.
Made it a close race right up to the last lap.

Race Report

Sorry to be eager green... had such a good jump at the start it seemed a shame to waste it. I was mindful of my radar and tried to keep it from getting too scary.

Safety car comes out on like lap 2... ok we bunch up; restart goes fine. Wardez had a bobble so I get a free ride up into p2 and then just tried like hell to hold on to aderrrm's draft. Made a mistake after the tires started to go off and he then started to open the gap. Not surprised I then settled into a fantastic fight with carracer with WiiFreak in tow. We traded 2nd place more times to count and then it goes yellow again.

Erase aderrrm's 6s lead and since it's close to a good pit window everyone dives in. WiiFreak beats me in the pit-stop dice roll and we're rejoining the track when mule zooms by us all to catch the back of the field just at pit-exit grabbing the gap between Wii and carracer. I wasn't a big fan of that move but we roll around and restart fine. After a brief tango with team canada while aderrrm and carracer storm off into the sunset.

There might have been another caution but into the night Aderrrm and carracer were all over each other for the lead so I was able to catch back up and break draft to the field. As night wore on and my tires started to fall off the lead pair got a gap on me while wardez and green were catching up quickly.

I saw aderrrm take to the pits and it pushed me over the edge to do what I was already thinking... take tires and make a mad dash. I figured that's what he was going to try. So I came in the next lap. But aderrrm was still there! I was now quite confused but on new tires.

Came out in 6th... took some massive bites out of the gap and then it goes yellow again. I groan as I'm thinking everyone is just going to pit and it will be a couple lap sprint on cold tires which is the thing I'm the worst at. :/ But only wardez went in so then I laughed at the thought that everyone in front is on bald tires and here I am with 4 lap scrubs in perfect condition; somehow in probably the best car to win the shootout.

We restart... everything goes ok... last lap, somehow cicua managed to get inside me in t2 and I made contact hard enough to bend my LF. Shortly there after I'm going to exploit my sticky rubber and take the outside around one of the tight left handers and it was working beautifully until I see carracer's great race ending tragically in front of me... right where I need to drive. Pound the breaks, dodge him, lose two places, try to slingshot round the last corner but ran out of road an inch too short to hit the podium.

Bit of a roulette game this one. 4 maybe 5 cautions... guessing game pit strategy... pit bugs... just crazy. Great racing for those two long green stretches though. Tough break carracer.

-=-

There was lots of talk about the safety car after the race. I really only have one thing about it that bugs me. Giving back laps. The very real possibility of losing to a car that I lapped 2 yellows ago doesn't sit well with me.

GL in D2. 👍

That was a fun battle we had going 👍
When I saw you pit all I could think was that you had damage. On the restart I figured it would be CSL or you that would take the win. I guessed you guys had the best tires.

My dampers are now 4/7 7/4 but everything else is pretty much the same.

Actually, complaining about the rules is part of the realism. Which sport doesn't have drivers/teams/owners raising their pitchforks whenever something changes? Besides, I hinted you may get flak for this idea at some point:

As for the safety car and caution periods, love the concept but I'm not sure if it's worth all the effort. I'm not sure about the other divisions but in the races I was in this season, I think there was only one (Twin Cities) where a safety car was warranted. Plus, any area where human judgment is involved will attract criticism and I'm not sure you want any more of that on your plate.
The concept was bold and exciting, but unproven, so growing pains are to be expected. Just need some adjusting based on the results we've seen so far. 👍

There were actually a few incidents I ignored. We could have had a few more safety car periods. But like I said, it's settled. Unless it involves multiple cars, you can count out seeing the SC message pop up.

I'm glad we're keeping the yellows, it's realistic and also the only way to help someone who gets shafted by an accident they weren't involved in and couldn't avoid.
For the record though, chips reversed I'd never ask for a lap back. I'm used to eating my mistakes and getting a second chance at it would feel dirty to me.

btw, how's the 86?

Wow, first time I've nerd raged in a quite a while. Not only is that Jason's graphics work but also Longbow's brilliant photography that's been stolen.

I'm sure we can safely rely on Jason to send them a nice greeting package quite soon 👍

We love you for this **** Litchi!

Keep your E.Y.E open! xD

I'm happy you won't pull a safety car out for just 1 car now. It's their fault so they must deal with it. Otherwise you might as well go with light damage like someone already said.

I guess I'll have to get in a different frame of mind accepting that a lot of the race can be down to luck. Just I thought this was a PURE racing series when I signed up. Of course I knew about the SC when I signed up, but I don't like the idea and I signed up because it's a competitive series having raced last season.

It's certainly a bit of a game changer, but I'm positive you can make the best of whatever happens in races and come out up front most of the time anyway.

The first race we ran with it, I absolutely loathed it, but as I'm becoming more familiar with the idea, it's not so terrible, should be good now that we're limiting cautions.

We could have more than one pace car. If cars are driving in two groups, pick the leader in each. Just an idea.

And Adam you could have pitted to get damage repair and new tyres. The safety car was almost certain to come out again in that darkness, so you would have caught up. Just sayin' ... strategy is different with the SC, hope is never lost.

Alright fellas. My time changed last night and not sure what time the race is starting.

If you could just let me know in GMT and maybes hours till.

Thank you in advance.

Thank you. So basically by the clock it's same time. By my atomic clock it's an hour later then normal. LoL I'm gonna be after this one. Hope I don't fall asleep at the wheel. Just honk at me if you see me drifting off course. LoL j/k

By the clock exactly the same, except for anyone that isn't recognizing daylight savings time, or hasn't yet.

Well, the clocks 'Sprung' forward 1 hour, so the race will actually be run 'physically' sooner than normal so you will be more awake ;)

Oooooh good call. I'm now excited and feel like I can win. LoL

Good luck to everyone is D2. I won't be in attendance and will use this as one of my bye weeks.

Cheers!

I have no complaints about the safety car. I saw both sides of it in the same race. I went the first 15 laps without being involved in any incidents. Somewhere in the middle of that stint, the SC came out, I botched the restart and lost two positions, I made them back up after a few laps. I then got cocky and decided I was going to push harder, and on lap 16 I was the guy bringing out the SC... Race kind of went downhill from there. I got my head back in it towards the end, was reeling in Mule, then made the mistake of diving into an apex where he was blocking my view, and brought out that last safety car.

Yeah, I hated it my first race as well... but it's just something that strategy and focus needs to adjust for. Even though the safety car totally boned me yesterday (Aderrrm, carracer, and I should have had the podium by a mile) I'm still ok with it (still not the un-lapping though).

Almost makes you need a race-engineer though. In my sick sweaty haze I totally lost track of lap counts. After watching the timing screen toward the end of the race on the replay... any race engineer would have told the front runners to come in on 35 or 36. The way the times were falling off that would have been optimum (not the L38 stop I did). If a SC came out we'd be in the cat-bird seat with the perfect tires and no gap... If it didn't there would have been enough road to get the lead back easily. By the end of that crazy long second stint new tires were 3-4s a lap faster.

Ideally though in retrospect we all took tires early when the SC came out before L20 so we really should have just shorted that second set of tires and come in on the next SC to have a proper < 20L stint toward the end.

All things considered it does seem to work better at keeping close racing than success ballast. If the lead gap gets chewed up by a SC you're car isn't handicapped so it's a fair fight to get the gap back.

Yeah thats one of my biggest problems with the saftey car all the restarts. I find it hard enough to hold my position at the start of the race and now I find myself having to do it 3 or 4 times in a race. But I suppose I need the practice ....:P

I have found it alot harder to race in a pack of cars this season aswell, not really sure why. Don't know if I'm pushing too hard or just pushing in the wrong places, or something to do with the draft. But really struggling to find any sort of consistancy, not be able to practice as much as last which doesn't help either ....

(sorry Off Topic :P) Turbo do you know where I might find Pictures of Monza track limits, I remember seeing some either here or on GT4. I was just wondering who's they are? and if I could use them?.

And Good Luck to everyone in D2 👍 Break a leg or as (I think)CSL put it last night ..a wheel :D.

Some questions for the D1 racers. At around what lap did the headlights came on, and what were the lap times at the end of your respective stints?
