Subscribing. I've got interest. Need to ensure scheduling and time availability.

Hey guys, I'm thinking about making some changes to the qualifying/race format. Just had some ideas floating around in my head and thought we might give it a try. Will update you on the specifics over the weekend.

Watching the V8 Supercar race, so I'll outline this now.

Here's the gist of it:

During the week prior to the race(s), you will run your normal 2-lap qualifying run where:
  • Lap 1 = Qualifying time for Race 1
  • Lap 2 = Qualifying time for Race 2

Now, I have decided to drop the pre-race practice from the official schedule as we will still have the official practice session on Saturdays, and people can practice any any time by themselves, etc. I will be replacing this with a "Top 5 Shootout" from 5:15 to 5:45pm PST. Similar to the V8 Supercar format used for their races.

This shootout will involve the top 5 qualifiers for Race 1. Each of these qualifiers will go out on track one at a time starting in reverse order and run a 3-lap race, with lap 2 being their qualifying hot lap. After these laps have run, the lap times will be tallied up and this will set the final order for Race 1.

Edit: We can also do these runs in free run mode, that way when one car is on their cool down lap, the next car can head out on the warmup lap. This will slightly overlap runs and save some time. Only issue is we wouldn't be able to save replays, but with the rest of the field watching it really wouldn't matter.

Weekly qualifying lap 2 times will remain the final order for Race 2.

Does this work/sound exciting for everyone?

Great way to shake up the formula without breaking it 👍

The shoot out idea's awesome as well. I suggested something like that for GATE but people didn't take to it for whatever reason, it's a much more simple series anyway.

Sounds interesting, generally I am not a fan of qualifying and racing on different days, but willing to give it a shot. Only the top 5 will be in the shootout? Is that correct?

Yeah top 5 only.

Sounds good, hopefully I will be able to qualify for more races than the last time you did this. I do really like the idea of, lap one is for race one, lap two is for race two. Curious to see how this plays out.

Not that it will affect me, not usually being a top 5 qualifier but I do like the qualifying idea

Since there's a 90 minute break from LeMans with the Speed channel and stupid Cup Series practice + Speed center, I'll be turning some laps here for about an hour:

Edit: Closed.

Darn, I missed the room.
Any lap times? I will try and catch the next room.
EDIT: And do you have any idea what a mid-pack lap time would be?

Sorry for the double post, I just want to post a new room number.

when they cut to other stuff they were opening the feed on the web.

oh and:

^^^ All I have to watch the feeds is my netbook, which can barely run Justin.tv for the V8 supercar races, let along anything else. I just didn't feel like watching it that way. No big deal.

I think I ran a 27.9 at Laguna. Wasn't really pushing that hard, just a comfortable drive.

I'm shutting the room down now.
I ran a 27.4 ,medium pace, not cruising but not going for a time attack, just learning the car. The car is bone stock and needs braking-in. It handles ABS OFF brilliantly. You really have to try to get the car out of shape.
Can't wait for a race in it, see how it handles a draft and get a tune for it. I'm not tuning per-race ever again, just making 1 setup and sticking with it.

I think the PS3 is good for watching video on, you could try it.

This place has been pretty quiet since GTA started up, when does that officially end? Hopefully there will be some more drivers after that is over.

GTA ends on Sunday night. So less than a week left. I figure we start qualifying for the first race on Monday. 👍

i have my car fully broken in and up to spec. are we allowed to tune LSD?

So far as I know you can tune everything, just can't add any parts besides the rear end, as RT stated in an earlier post

any tips on how to handle this car during braking? obviously braking in a straight line is necessary but i am trying to find the best way to pump the brakes without locking them up so that i stop fast.

Really low BB values helps tremendously. I ran with it set at 2/1 last time I practiced. Some are running it lower yet. Pumping the brakes is not usually necessary unless you hit the turn in to fast or to late. Trail braking however is required, and accelerator control as well. I am by no means one of the fast drivers, but practicing what they preach has made me better than I was when I first started.

Heads up to all drivers, we may be swapping the custom Eifel track for Motegi.

You hear when it will be available? I would vote for it to be in the series but not to replace your custom track. I really liked it.
