Updated race specifics: Read, read, read!

.: RACE SPECIFICS | STAGE 4 | La Sarthe | 22 LAPS | DEC 18th :.

La Sarthe Quali:
You'll only get 1 shot at La Sarthe.
Timer starts after the 1st chicane on Mulsanne straigh, and ends by the finish line. That meens that the 2 first sectors are removed from the total time.
Only 1 shot, 1 lap.

Dirty Lap % penalty: 3

Late Quali % penalty: 2 (And not viable for the reversed grid order)

In the chicanes, all you need to care about is not beeing on the wrong side of the rumbles.
Other than that, standard track limits apply.

Make sure to not go outside the solid white line on your left going in to the Mulsanne hairpin.

La Sarthe Race:
Race Laps: 22 (Formation Lap is replaced by the 2 first sectors. Start Line is at the start of the 3rd sector, just after the first Mulsanne Straight chicane.)
Distance: 300 km - Enduro - Time/Weather Change. 1 Race only!

Stage Specifics:
Track limits apply as usual. There's however a few spots that needs to be highlighted.

Start:
Sector 1 and 2 will act as the formation lap. Pole sitter can start anywhere between the start of the 3rd sector (Just after the 1st chicane) to the 100m breaking marker prior chicane nr 2.

Mulsann Straight chicanes:
The solid white line and the rumble strip do not line up. So make sure to stay on the correct side of the rumbles, and ignore the solid white lines inside the chicanes. As long as you're on the correct side of the rumbles, you're fine.

Mulsanne hairpin:
When approaching the Mulsanne hairpin, there's a solid white line on your left hand side. That line is supposed to be respected as any solid white line. Do not go outside this line with more than 2 wheels.

Pit Entry:
When entering the pits, make sure to slow your car enough to ensure that the AI can keep it on the tarmac. Going full throttle in to the pits will force your AI to cut the sand pit, and gain 3-5 seconds. It's each drivers responsibility to ensure that the AI can drive the correct way to the pits.

Pit Exit:
As usual, you can cross the solid white pit exit line. Any incident, big or small as a result of a driver crossing the solid white line (either a driver on track, or a driver exiting the pits) will render a penalty.

Other than that, make sure to try hard to stay inside track bounderies. La Sarthe is a wide track with a lot of corners that easaly can be cut with huge time gains as a result. Stewards will be very strict when judging corner cuts etc.

Aw why not?

btw peoples, expect an official PURE, " State of the Series" speech later today. 👍

I set my quali on the change weather version of Sarthe in dry conditions etc. Is this acceptable or will I need to re-run on the original Sarthe? Didn't realise at the time.

Quali is always done on the standard version.
Your quali, however, stays.

I have to say no fair.
You can see much better on the day/night change version. I know for me personally it makes a big difference in reliability.

That's subjective imo.
We can't allow to re do qualis for such a reason imo.
As far as I know, the grip is better, and you have the same shadows as breakmarkers (if you use them) every single lap in the standard version.
Doing the quali on the time/weather layout is not an advantage imo.

If some one drive without his ballast applyed, he have to re do the quali (Paginas). Different story..

But ok, let's here it from the boys.. What do you say?

I confess, this is my fault if Josh has done his quali on the weather/time track. Imo there's no advantage to do your quali on time/weather or on the standard track. But, i'd like you to explain me some things guys (especially Den lol :D) :

As far as I know, the grip is better
huh? What makes you say that??

and you have the same shadows as breakmarkers (if you use them) every single lap in the standard version.
Is it an advantage to use the shadows as breackmarkers? Imo: no. Cause in the race, on the time/weather track, the guy cannot do that, so, he will be lost...

Doing the quali on the time/weather layout is not an advantage imo.
Well, since over a year, all we do in GT5 is to look the reality... GT5 offers us the possibility to run on some time/weather tracks... I think we have to try to use them at the maximum huh?
No need to look any advantage on a track (or not) and use this track because he has this (or not) advantage..

What I've experianced and heard, the grip is slightly better on the standard version. Cause the weather version can be damp by the slightest...

As I said, it CAN be an advantage to use the shadows on the standard version since the time of day is fixed, and therefore, the shadows do not move compared to the time version.
But then again.. It CAN be an advantage if you do use them.. IF you use them. If you don't, there's obviously not an advantage.. But it could be..

Reason why we always use the standard version for quali is that all drivers have the EXACT same light, weather, grip when running your quali lap.

All of this is very subjective.. But to remove all doubt, the standard version should be used.

OK Den, thanks for your explications 👍

Well, we are just us there, the PURE guys, a small community in the big community, so I think it may be time for me to introduce myself a bit...(never done it before on GTPanet lol)

My name is Guillaume. But I prefer Will. I worked for 6 years in the French Army, in Germany, near France, Luxembourg and Belgium. I traveled in Africa, Guyana, Lebanon and Afghanistan. Not for holidays...lol. For work. Well, as you know, Army = alcohol, sex, drugs and night clubs (when you are 19-20 years old, yeah yeah, army is like this). So, I spent my best nights ever in the German night clubs. AWESOME! I met Paul Kalkbrenner, an awesome (for me the best) creator/live performer. He's not really a Dj, he performs his musics in live. This is simply so much harder than just djying. I loved to hear him in night clubs and in the big German Halls.

Here is an example of his work and an other here. Listen and enjoy ;)

And I'm not only a GT5 driver, I create my own music, I play Texas Hold'em Poker a lot and....I love my cat. lol ;)

Always nice to read some real life background! 👍
As far as I know, you and Paginas are the cat guys. Pags cat always gets in the way for him when racing.. Does your cat behave? ;)

It's a pleassure to have you as a PURE participator!

Cheers

IMO it's either different or it's not.
I say it's definitely different, not in terms of grip or anything unseen, but exactly what is seen.
Grip etc to the side, I can personally perform better in the better lighting.

I think it needs to be one or the other, allowing accidental runs on a different version means we can all "accidentally" do it next time.
Not trying to make this harder, but if accidental runs on a different version are allowed through, I'll be doing that from now on.(Nurburgring has better lighting on 24hr layout as well)

I think it's very simply settled by re-running the quali on the standard circuit. He had the opportunity to last night and passed, so time availability is no longer a concern, he could have and chose not to, sorry.

Ok. So let's make it simple then.

A quali on a non standard layout stays, but is penalized with 2 %. A dirty lap adds the penalty on top of that.

Good?

Well it was a mistake. I think he should be given the option to run another quali lap. Whether his quali was good or bad is irrelevant imo, because the lap was never valid in the first place.

Sounds like we have a party animal in our mix.
The Army is corrupting our youth with "alcohol, sex, drugs and night clubs"!

Ok. 👍

Run it again Joshua!

To be completely honest, I don't think that's very fair. Luckily I don't have plans keeping me busy up until race day, but if I did, having to re-run isn't very fair seeming as I didn't set the track, I just ran it (not blaming Litchi at all, nobodies fault, just a mistake). I appreciate that people may find it an advantage/disadvantage running the change weather option, but to me, it doesn't make a difference, and to have them re-run a few days just before race day is a little awkward.

IMO, i'd just for future references, enforce that the standard track has to be used otherwise as Dennis stated a few posts above, a penalty will be given, meaning both the host and the driver qualifying makes sure they are running the standard track.

But as I said, i'm currently not busy up until race day so i'll re-run my quali tomorrow. 👍

Thing is, that we've always run the quali on the standard layout.. Even since WSGTC 1 days in the end of 2010..
Problem was perhaps that Litchi has not been with us long enough. He joined in the end of WSGTC 2, in October if I recall.
But even tho Litchi was the host, you could perhaps tell him, since you're one of the drivers that's been around since the WSGTC 1 days..

I thought the procedure was well known, so did not think of it as any problem.
My bad.

But if you re run your quali this one time, we're all good. 👍

I guess this is on my behalf then. Always thought the track settings just had to be dry and at day time.

But no harm done, I'll redo it tomorrow. 👍

Well, all those posts are because of me. I'm really sorry guys. :banghead: .

All my apologies.

I'll never do this mistake one more time, i promess.

But please, I don't want any special treatment. If you judge necessary to blame me, do it. No problem for that.

No, Litchi.. It's my mistake.. There was no way for you to know.
Forget it man. 👍

PURE is a concept, an ideal... but at its center its core essence is progress.

So we're learning and we're climbing the mountain of evolution - step by mighty step.

We try our best to avoid an air of brutality when it comes to racing in this series. Yet slight recent unfortunate developments have caused us to realize we need to re-affirm our core beliefs with this presentation in order to let every one know how we're going to pick up from here on out. So get in the huddle every one.

The original idea of the series was a simple one. A no non-sense championship full of collaboration between all members to bring the cleanest drivers we know together in order to have the closest and funnest racing possible.

For the true racer, not the glory hound. And we believed we achieved that goal with the members we were able to get onboard before the season started, along with some new faces that found their way in through good friends of friends.

We've run into some tough ground with the actions of certain drivers but at the same time really struck gold with the caliber and respect of a lot of the new drivers we share the track with. But most importantly, I feel that most of us here understand eachother, but if not, that's another reason this statement's here.

It's hard to believe we're only up to round four after a seemingly long bout of rule tweaks, private messages, drivers dropping out, new ones wanting in, divisional changes, the inter-league challenge, etc.

We're determined to keeping our racing on at an ideal level. And we intend on maintaining it by letting every one know how much we appreciate every dedicated member of this series; you all make it what it is, and what it will become.
Yet we also need to highlight what has been bringing us down. So we'll announce the retirement of a few drivers.

We regretfully announce the leaving of the following drivers:
Noss
Replay
Biffy

Noss has shown us great interest and a valued effort on the track. But we feel his motivation of winning is misplaced energy on track. A truly great driver, yet coming short with discipline. His ragequit of the last race was enough.

Replay seems shy and isolated. Missing too many races without due notice has shown us a lack of interest.

Biffy resigned himself after an incident in round 3, we wish him nothing but the best in the future.

One thing we'd also like to cover is that while we take the series seriously and hold a high standard, that still doesn't mean that we're so strict with our members that we alienate ourselves from each other.

The most important thing to us is building on our relationships in a positive way. So don't worry if you run into us on track or miss a rule or something. We're not here to just smear anyone that doesn't fit the program. We encourage every one to point out each other's mistakes and such as this series is a constantly refining effort.

So please try your best to maintain composure after something goes wrong and relax, take comfort, in the fact that we're all friends, and we're all here to help each other.

We all have to remember that the racing is all in our heads, in our hands we grip a game. Sometimes we need to grip a little harder in order to maintain our love for it by realizing how lucky we are to have what we have and not let emotion get in the way. This isn't a real race where money and careers are at stake. All we have to do after a bad race is get up from our chairs and cool off. Yet the emotions are all real, at the very same time. Pretty luxurious in my book.

So let's strive to continue to make this series the best it can be. And the only thing we really want to ask for in this statement is for every one to make the extra effort of putting in their opinions, no matter how small, on every matter we need to discuss. We really appreciate any feedback and help. Even a simple, " That's cool" or "That sucks" really goes a long way. We don't want to be dictators, even benevolent dictators. This is a meritocracy in which we feel all of our members have merit to suggest anything and have their opinions carry equal weight. This is a constitutional republic where our constitution is the base set of rules and we all make the amendments.

We have everything to be proud of. We're GTP inter-league champions, we have three different winners already, some of the best racing specs ever designed, each and every one of us have improved our pace, the close finishes in both divisions, the three way fight for the win in Suzuka, Dennis and I's battle against the aliens, the mid-pack fight in Spa, , going side by side through chicanes without a touch, we're surrounded by some of the best drivers of Gran Turismo that have ever turned on a Playstation. Feels great.

We have some exciting announcements to come in the near future in terms of expansion of the PURE name. A few series have knocked on our doors for regulation and sanctioning so we'll announce those new partnerships quite soon.

Also, one small teaser fact we can say about season 2 of JGTS is this:
There will be one closed division and one open division, both under our complete control, for more people to take a shot at racing in the cleanest format possible.

Denilson and I have lots of ideas bubbling in our minds about season 2 even now so every one keep a look out in the interest section where we will post the interest thread for season 2 for every one to get their ideas, and frustrations, well out.

But for now... on to more racing!

Good luck buddies,
Team PURE

Just wanted to throw in one more thing:
We're currently left at 25 dedicated drivers with a couple more possibly joining us soon as well. So we're still at a good level of 12 drivers per grid, which is great considering the talent. 👍

First of all I have to say I love your new avatar Eddie. Fortunately I wasn't drinking anything, or it would have been all spilled all over my keyboard!

Now moving onto "serious business", thank you so much for the official PURE message. Was a good read and I find myself excited about Season 2, and disappointed that we had someone leaving the championship of his own decision, again.

I just believe people race very hard at the front. Not dirty, just very hard, and this has the risk of creating "moments", if you know what I mean by that. Personally I didn't have a problem with this, since nobody hit me hard enough to damage my car, or nobody got me out of the track. But I can recall at least three or four moments in Spa where I thought: "this is not going to end well". Fortunately, it did, since the frontrunners are great drivers. But what if I had decided to race hard as well? Maybe we would have both been out of the track. As I say, I'm not complaining. This is something each of us should privately think about, and act accordingly in the next races.

I trust you guys here and I'm looking forward to racing with all of you!!

Whats closed division mean for the top 16 and then new guys with slower guys in the open one?

Nice write-up Wardez, very smart 👍

I don't hold any ill feelings to any of the drivers here, but I just couldn't take being the main subject of an incident occurring in pretty much every race I have done for the last month or so, in multiple series. Nurburgring was just the last straw for me. Hence forth I have decided to take a break from GT5 indefinitely. I'll return for WSGTC 3 in January, but after that, unless I feel different I'll probably quit GT5 for good, although if you'll have me I may consider driving in the next season of PURE, I just can't do this season right now, it's obvious I'm getting way too frustrated in each event. Yes, I do take these races quite seriously, I do get really competitive at times, but the only reason I even considered taking part in any series in this Community is for fun, not because I expected to win in every race. Anyone who has raced with me before should know that I don't quit series' or races because of a single incident, but when the element of fun isn't present and hasn't been for a while, you know it is time to leave, especially when you get called a 'knob' for having another bad race.

Good luck with the rest of the season, I hope to race some of you guys in the future. For now, goodbye.
