Seems there is a lot of interest, can't wait to start racing this beast.

Has a decision been made as to the tuning?

This is what I'm going to do.

We're going to have a practice race in a couple of weeks, after FMSC is over. Same format as what we'll use for the season. Race 1 will be done with tuning allowed. Race 2 will be do with no tuning. Then we'll see what we like the best and go from there.

There is your answer. 👍

I'm warming up to the idea of tuning. From what I've been seeing on other series, the people who are still around playing GT5 are generally skilled and here for fun. The more competitive it is the more fun it is. It's more competitive if they share their tunes with everyone, so they do so in order to have more fun. I have no doubt that if tuning is allowed, at least one fast guy will post a full tune each and every week. If this is the case, then tuning will do much more good than harm.

Sounds great, would love to participate!

#28: cicua (GTP_cicua): TBD/TBD

I strongly prefer spec (no tuning). The car is lovely already, I do not want to ruin it with more upgrades.

As for buying a new un-ruined one later, I will see it before I believe it.

Besides, I suck at LSD/suspension setup :dunce:

That said...

Thanks buddy!

For me, no tuning makes the series much more competitive. More competition=more fun! :D. Its a headache for me having to tune a car, specially with the fact that GT5's tuning is crap.

However, some of us like the challenge of tuning, and some of us, especially myself do not enjoy just running laps for the sake of running laps throughout the week. Within about 20 laps, I am about as fast as I will get, so tuning a car will help me get faster and create a more enjoyable series, at least for myself. This is one of the main reasons I do not enjoy running the FMSC races, as they do not allow the car to be tuned to the driver. Will I do fairly well without tuning? Yeah, but I won't enjoy the series as much, and honestly I'm not sure if i could get myself to run the full series if tuning is not allowed.

That being said, if tuning is allowed, I'll post a good setup for a balanced, easy to drive, fast car on here, no big deal.

You missed out. 👍

With that said, check back in a few weeks. ;)

I'm always checking out your spec miata series threads, as I absolutely love that car, but in its pure stock form, its just not as amazing as it could be, and that always disappoints me.

Bolt on parts, i do not need, but adjusting the car for each track and for better handling characteristics, is something i have to do to keep myself sane XD

It's either all or nothing because the "Restrict Tuning" feature is all or nothing (except for brake bias). That's what we're discussing, no way to police just transmission and LSD tuning.

But like I said, it won't make much of a difference to be honest. People will just sit back and blame race performances on tunes if we go open with it anyway, that's really the only annoying thing I'd like to avoid. "Yeah I could've done better but driver X must've had an awesome tune."

Aderrrm doesn't know how to tune much, enough said.

We can have the benefit of tuning and avoid the annoyance you mention if fast drivers share their tunes. This is the best of both worlds I think. I have no tuning knowledge so I can't say this will happen for sure.

You make a good point about Aderrrm. He dominates with little tuning knowledge, apparently.

But what if someone else tuned if for you each week and the car's handling is significantly improved? How do you feel about it then?

If tuning is competitive and people are not sharing how to make the car faster at a given track, then I agree with you. BUT, if the fast guys are sharing their tunes so that everyone has better car control then I'm all for it.

Also, no tuning MAY make for better competition for low powered cars (like the Miata). Even if this is true, it MAY not also be true for high powered cars. If it's common for people to fly off the track or spin then it won't be competitive for the majority of drivers. So, if tuning makes for a significantly more stable car then it may add a lot to the series.

No parts will be added in any case. The discussion is about allowing suspension, transmission, and aerodynamic adjustments.

Its a "maybe", "maybe not" kind of thing. We don't know for sure if there will be someone willing to share their setups. If there is, then great. 👍

haha, Yo TAK!

Nice to see you sign up for a legit. series all on your own. Good eye son 👍

(Race with him in FMSC Live aka the Forza Miata series)

No, as Wardez said, it is all or nothing.

There is no way to limit tuning to suspension/tranny/whatever. If you allow it, you allow everything.

Then someone will install the permanent engine mods, detune and get the torque advantage, and then everyone has to follow suit or lose.

Someone quick posting their tunes is nice and welcome and could help some people, but does not help me personally. Their tunes are tailored to their (usually much smoother) driving styles, so for me it's all the same, I still have to do a tire run, adjust this, do another tire run, adjust that, etc.

With no tuning - just one tire run to figure out BB.

Well, to be fair, whenever you do an engine upgrade it changes the engine's redline so that's an apparent mod when spectating cars (they'll have higher RPM's). So that's not a problem, it's just more work.

The other thing people try is to lower their aero and add more hp so they stay within a spec. PP value. But we won't be regulating the rooms by PP though so that's not a problem.

If we were to allow tuning we'd have to allow all upgrades that aren't observable like drivetrain, chasis rigidity, LSD, ecu, etc. So no one's at a disadvantage. But RM cars come with most of that so there's really not much to worry about.

There are ways to catch cheaters out and I intend on using them. I've run these types of things before, so I'd like to think I know what I'm doing.

If I have to, i'll just have everyone share their car online and add me as a friend, like I did for the Lotuses. Open tuning, and not one person tried to put on a Turbo or Engine stage.

EDIT:

Everyone as of this post has been added, except:

I would like to sign up for this if spaces are available

I'm in if there's room

24 people in drivers list!
Only 16 allowed to race so who gets priority as there's no reserve list!
All I know is I was 1 of the 1st 16.

To make another division or not, that is the question..... I'm not sure but if it is anything like the integra series Mule runs, you are going to have to qualify for your position on the grid.

I would prefer this method.
