To make another division or not, that is the question..... I'm not sure but if it is anything like the integra series Mule runs, you are going to have to qualify for your position on the grid.

The op says the FMSC style qualifying will be used: 15 min open quali before race. If that stays, then more than one division will be needed. If there is only one division, what you have said will probably be needed.

IF only one division is the aim, I suppose you could have two quali rooms open, both running 15 min open quali laps. Then a steward could collect and tabulate the lap times to see who advances to the race. Just an idea.

Qualify for position!!!
Thought it was first come first serve..
So I've just bought the dlc just to get the car for this series and now I might not get in.

Well, we have options. Each have their pros and cons. However, you have to take into account the fact there will be some people who have signed up who don't do anything, and come race day, don't show up.

That said, there's still a couple of people who I've raced with before who I would think would want to sign up, and haven't yet. Wiifreak and Paul come to mind.

They way I see it, we have 2 options, unless somebody has another idea.

1: Open up Division 2, FMSC style, have it at 6:00 EST, and whoever wants to jump to that one, can. However, if we have less than 32 sign ups (which currently we do), it thins out the field for both races.
2: We switch to week long, 4-lap knockout qualifying, like in all of my other series before, as well as PURE, etc. Fastest 16 race in Division 1, everyone else in a D2 that runs at the same time. However, this is what I did for the Lotus series, and before you knew it, nobody who qualified in D2 showed up and ultimately quit.

EDIT: Seems like people like Option 2.

Or you could keep it still 15 minutes prior to the race, but do it in two separate rooms (gonna need another steward). And then enter times into a single spreadsheet and pick top 16 (or better 14-15) times and grid manually. To keep the spirit of excitement you can restrict qualifying to 1-2 flying laps.
A bit more work on the race day, but less during the week.

I mean structuring the 15 minute quali session before the race that way too.

I think it would end up being alot longer than 15 minutes unless everyone runs at the same time. Then you have the problem of traffic as you really only have two laps to put a time up, you'll also have to have someone watching to make sure people only do 2 flying laps.

Also you would have 2 lobbies which means both lobbies would have to exchange times and then the fastest people would all have to go into the same lobby. I'm not saying it's a bad idea it would just take longer than 15minutes.

Say track takes about 2mins to go round thats 8minutes per driver even if you had half the lobby watching and half doing their times it would still take +16minutes. Also taking into account delays, connection issues, comparing times between lobbies, switching room ect I reckon that would take at least an 1 hour.

^An hour seems like overestimation. 20 minutes should be enough to split each room in two (or even three) parts , have and out lap and 1-2 flying laps depending on course length (and there's no need for a cool-down lap) with other groups watching. Another 10 minutes to enter times in to a spreadsheet shared by 2 stewards, sort, announce order on the forum and open a race room.
Seems like 30 minutes tops if done efficiently and no time wasted re-opening rooms if just one person has a bad connection. 20 minutes if everyone gets only 1 flying lap.

And time commitment needs to be compared to 'live quali' where with 2 people per race x4 laps one would need to host 16 races x10 minutes.

P.S. anyway, this is just a thought. I did enjoy live quali in season 2 of miatas, so I have nothing against it. It's just that when given a choice of short quali session before the race on the weekend vs. running live quali most people seem to favor the former. So I'm trying to suggest ways to keep it that way and accommodate a field of more than 16 racers w/o creating a 'reserve list' or a second division.

Yeah tbh I like the 15mins before the race like in FMSC although I never done it the other way. But I'm not to bothered either way the only advantage on doing quali on the day is having more time to practice.

Ps maybe a hour was abit of a overestimation :P

Mule's got just enough interest where he can run a qualifier, see who's actually dedicated enough to run it, then go from there. That'll be right around 16 people. So you run the qualifier, get the 16 or so people, then see who actually shows up on raceday. Run the qualifier asap so that we'll get a perfect idea of those people that are just sign up happy versus those that are serious.

You can also make up a reserve list of drivers that you trust and know will show up regularly. I'd say those are:
#2: CSLACR (GTP_CSL): Silver / Black
#8: sohnvonstig (gtp_sohnvonstig): black/black
#10: Biffy (BiffyClyro93): TBD/TBD
#11: Wardez (Wardez): Yellow / green
#13: VELOCI_2NR (VELOCI_2NR): Orange / TBD
#22 bdubclub(bdubclub): blue/white.
#27: GV27 (GV27-): Frash Green / Giallo Modena
#30: NEPALII (NEPALII) TBD/TBD
#32: GrayFox32 (GrayFox32): TBD/TBD
#33: R1600Turbo (R1600Turbo): Imola Orange Pearl / Gold
#43: LancerEvo7 (TBD*): Cyberia Blue / Saffron Yellow
#47: dsgerbc (dsgerbc): white/red
#77: LitchiGTPlay (Litchi_GTPlay): Dark Metal Grey (M) / Isotope Green
#86, Greennarcotics (Greennarcotics) Black/Green or Green/Black (TBD)
#87: Nastradmus87 (nastradmus87): alpine metallic / texas gold
#93: MULE_9242 (MULE_9242): GT POLARIZED 008 / Silver

...hmm, you should've made this in invite only series, haha, 'cause that right there's^ a FUN list.

I'm confident that list would show up every sunday. Except possibly stig and Veloci sometimes.

Also, get rid of the "GTP" part of the series title. You have Mazdaspeed on the freaking car and you're not gonna use it!? xD

Fair enough. Add me to the reserve list. I'd like to participate in place of any no-shows.

Wow surprised I'm not on this list. I mean I know I suck but I never miss a race.

By a qualifyer, do you mean something along the lines of a practice race, or what? I'm not 100% getting that right now.

As for the name, I just threw something that kept in line what everything else I've done before.

I mean like, just making the first race like a week (or it could even be two week or whatever) long live qualifying like we've always done but then after that using the FMSC 3 method.

Okay, I get you. Seems like a fair idea, though I'm sure we'll get some people that aren't happy about it :/

Well, it's just a thought, I was thinking of doing that for my next Forza series. Which will be a mixed class Lotus 2-eleven and Elise championship called FLAC. The theory is that the effort shown by drivers who well take the extra step needed in order to make the first race are usually going to be regulars, or at least half of them will be. But you don't have to worry about that here.

That does seem like a good way to test for commitment. Anyone who complains is a cry baby because no one gets an unfair advantage out of it.

(I'm pulling an all-nighter tonight, so it looks like I'm running your guys' night owl schedule for once.)

Hah, cool, I just got back from work :yuck:

Test coming up?

But thanks, I hope the idea executes well.

Afraid of new competition? :sly:

Im in as ever Mule, was just deciding if I had time as well as it didnt clash with FMSC but if its anything like the Lotuses or Integras it will be worth making time for .

#98 paulmac2k9 (paulmac2k9) TBD/ TBD (my colours will be Black / Red like my Aussie mates "JMSR" colours but ill paint it first was going to pick #77 again and do another Pirtek Mazda but litchis got #77 :P)

When's this drivers list getting sorted as I'm well interested and bought the dlc now

Here's and idea or two 💡 might be rubbish but here goes

Use wardez's idea for the start of the season have week long qualifying which decides your position on grid.

It's looks like there's more than enough interest for a 2nd division so bottom 16 go in 2nd division.
Why not have a drop zone in Division 1 botton 3 get relegated top 3 in Division 2 get promoted.

As there is 2 races each week you could either do this after each race or just once a week.
I think after each race would be good that way if you get relegated in race 1 you have the chance to get promoted back up in race 2.

It would keep the Drivers in Division 1 on their toes and give everyone a chance each week to earn points.
The only problem would be disconnecting/no show could mean being relegated.

OR

Again Use wardez's idea for the start of the season have week long qualifying which decides your position on grid.

Except once everyone has quailfied split the drivers into 2 divisions ie odd and even. So you would have 8 of the 16 fastest guys in each division making both division very even. Then have a grand final FMSC style between the people with the most points at the end.

The problem with this way is if people start droping out you end up with half a grid in one division, but if everyone puts the effort in and shows it's great.

Green just so you know the idea of quallifing all week was the system Mule used in Lotuses and Integras only I think atleast for Integras he made a room on friday and saturday where he quallified everyone who wanted to.

Id rather we keep with what we had, qualli each week decides your spot and if we get more than 20-22 make a D2 room for the slower 8-10, I believe this is how Mule ran Integra S1, Lotus S1 and Integra S2. Refering to what happened in Lotuses (people not turning up for the D2 room) I doubt that this will happen as we have a much bigger group of Gt5 junkies to not let that happen :sly:.

Yeah I just seen a few people throwing in a few idea's so thought I would do the same :D, but yeah I'm more than happy to do Mule's system.

Ps It's windy today hurricane bawbag in scotland LOL

I like the RM & TC racing events best. Its cool to see everyone's different color schemes, and race numbers on the track and on the replays. That would be cool if we could change our car numbers on the JGTC & DTM cars as well. It would help me keep track of who was who when I watch the replays.
