Our network infrastructure is just like our road infrastructure... Abandon hope...

Your nation has very large and elaborated sidewalks:

(Revolution does not always mean cars...)

Funnily enough, after that, they fenced off most of the sidewalks to keep people from jaywalking. Officially.

In reality, we all know that's to prevent protest marches.

I assume they did this after the people left the streets, not during the protest. Then the cars get to drive on the empty and narrow sidewalks!

How do you guys deal with the stress of needing to handle people who don't follow rules being a mod?

I was peacefully browsing the new car suggestion thread when the new article just got posted at the front page. Suddenly loads of people start pouring in (figuratively or course, I'm picturing it in my mind) and threads started popping up by the second. Duplicate threads. People just don't know how to read the rules.

:banghead:

If I were a mod, I'd give everyone who makes a duplicate thread a one week ban. :mischievous:

24 hour ban for not putting effort into OP, eg:

"laferrari!!11!!! i need this car in the game!!1!11!1!!" without even a picture of the car
I think if I were a mod, I'll go on a banning spree!
Please don't ban me for posting this rant though. :P

Being nice helps prevent folks from going on the defensive. Some people with zero social skills or have limited internet experience proceed right into the deep end with all types of complaints at that point. But that's still just a tiny percentage of users overall.

Best question ever in this entire thread:

* Do mods consider themselves a regular member with a mod badge or do they feel like they are God a mod instead of a regular member?

Restricted access? I'm sure there is - GTPremium is essentially already that, as the regular member class has no access - but I imagine it'd be a pain in the arse to create special user groups each time. If there's a way for admins to limit users on a forum-by-forum basis, I have no idea, but it's certainly not an option for mods.

It would actually be a neat idea but likely abused. Could come in handy for threads that involve clubs or leagues that have banished members due to misbehavior.

The way we do it on another forums is to create a new group that the member belongs to, say for example GTP Gold, where they can post in everything. If you had a particular thread or area that would attract morons, you would restrict the posting privileges in that area to GTP Gold members only, and then demote the member causing issues to GTP Silver membership, so they can read the thread, but not write or edit a post.

Another very important question, although my very important questions don't seem to have much success.

Do you guys, aka mods, get along with each other in the super secret mod forum?

Of course we do. Although there are a lot of fights over beer and doughnuts...

On a serious note, we all get along (some of us have even met one another), and the great thing is since there's that camaraderie among all of us there's really nothing that isn't put on the table if need be. It's all very upfront and honest.

I'm on the whole juice kick too, so if it's up for grabs, I too disagree with both @TB and @Terronium-12 :P

True, but it'd also require a lot of extra work on our end if we had to keep track of every league's problem members. I prefer the current approach of just dinging them for abusive comments if they continue harassing a particular group; it tends to send a message ;). A member breaking the rules in one area of the site (repeatedly) is like someone who would be causing issues in other ones, too.

I do know the old software allowed Jordan to place some of the non-Super Moderators on duties at specific sub-forums, so I imagine a similar feature for member groups could limit usage to particular areas. For GTP12 though, I'm not too sure.

Isn't it possible to create a software that can allow people to create their own clubs within the site, ban "non-members" from posting, and still let the mods/admins/GTPlanetdominators have the power to shut it down?
What are your thoughts on microtransactions in video games?
Rubbish. The game makers can kill the game by including it (I'm looking at you GTA V). They can turn a game from fair and fun to blatantly forcing you to buy them in order to enjoy the game.

Like a great many things these days, I find my opinion varies slightly on a case by case basis. I can certainly see the reasoning for them from a business perspective, but as a consumer, I'm very unlikely to spend much money on them, if any at all.

We had a clubs feature in GTP11; however, it's no longer supported with the new software, and disappeared (along with member photo galleries) back in November. They were notoriously finicky and lacked a lot of features found on the rest of the forums, too.

Mm.... interesting to know. I seem to be late knowing on stuff... except for Flappy Bird (For the love of god, DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT). Though, wasn't Gran Turismo 6 suppose to have a community club in a update?
