Quick Match events RUBBISH??

I have a question this morning after racing last night. I raced in a room with a guy that was blazing fast. Made very few mistakes when racing but he would go the wrong way on warmup (damn near gave me a heart attack) and cut corners pretty much every time during the races. The thing is he was so fast no one could touch him anyway. I know there are the fastest of the fast and the slowest of the slow and someone at every notch in between. I used to be in the upper 1% and now I would say I'm probably in the upper 3% and that's ok as we all get older and lose a little time each year as eyes and hands and reflexes start to go. Somethings are pretty much constant though and that now leads me to my question.

How can the 7th or 9th or 11th place car beat the pole car to the first corner without some button combo or blatant cheating? Is it a fault in the game? Is there a work around to give you more grip and a substantial HP boost? This person could out drag me down the straight by a wide margin and I mean so much so that it's obvious something is not right and it can't be explained with the usual " some are very skilled at the launch" as the closer you get to the tip of the spear the less the gains are.

I had a blast last night as I do most times I play. Yet the more I play the more apparent it becomes that something is not right in the system. To me this was more than driver vs driver in equal equipment.

The guys that play with traction control do get good launches though… when I'm in the NISMO LMP car I get killed because I'm peeling out and the guys in the RWD cars fly ahead. At the historic one I launch in second gear.

[QUOTE="Whalengt,

Watch the replay and see what gear they use for the start maybe it is not 1 gear?

Guys I appreciate your feedback but I was trying to say that I'm no where near a roookie and can hold my own with 99% of the racers. This is not a launch control or led foot issue. Lets assume two people launch at the same moment give or take a tenth on the launch. Then assume a tenth for wheelspin. The pole has say 300 yards where as the 11th spot has 400. I'm just saying.

When I was racing the 450pp match the other day, I was constantly being started in the 8th position even when there was only 5 people in the he room. At the first corner, I was almost always in 2nd at the apex and on into the second corner. I was holding about 4500 rpm and when the start flashed, I lift off the e-brake and gradually roll into it. TC is set to zero and with just a wisp of smoke, I was gone leaving most in the dust. Proper technique goes a long way. When I was later started from the pole or 2nd spot, I would have a sizeable lead by the second corner even though I would often lose it to a gixxer by the first tunnel.

I got stuck in 15th place a number of times .... the boost from draft seems dramatic here, as I often found myself in 3rd going into turn 1. I've done this quickmatch dozens of times and if I'm not on pole I'd rather be towards the back. As far as bozos go, I've had several fields with courteous and competitive drivers. If the bozos are in I make it a game avoiding them, they get tired and leave.

This is something I read about a while ago that works very well at getting you a good launch. You guys probably already know about this, but when you're sitting on the grid, you only need to lightly touch the brake pedal, just so it registers as being pressed, when the lights go out there is virtually no delay between the brake being released and the throttle kicking in.
Beware of that car in front though-you do tend to take off like a stabbed rat

I use the left thumb button on the wheel of my G25 as the E brake. So at launch I have my thumb on the button and just release and gone. I find it makes for fast launches or at least fast for me.

I think alot of what I'm talkiing about is just the nature of the beast when it comes to 2 to 16 ps3's playing with bouncing data onto and off of an over taxed server. In other words mine and others questions may never have a definitive answer. I'm ok with that as good or bad I race the clock as opposed to other racers, that way I don't go insane with all the cheaters. :) YMMV

@Whalengt when you say E brake,I guess you mean the handbrake ? Hmm makes good sense that-a lot easier than balancing the brake pedal...
I use a ds3 on both sticks and have the e-brake set up on R-1. It's really easy to launch that way and for corner corrections when driving a ff car.

DFGT here,so the E-brake/handbrake is on the circle button under my right thumb, pity theres no QM to try it out on-I'd rather stand in a corner watching paint dry than do any of the current ones.
Really must get on the case and find some rooms/clubs to race in...
Oh and cheers for the tip on ff cars-I rarely drive them(apart from in real life where I drive 20 year old Ford Fiesta 👍),but next time i'm in one i'll give it a go...

its touch and go with Quick match events. Ive been in some doozys. When your just looking for some clean equal matched racing.
RB junior and the Ring are a favourite for me at the moment.
I was in there last night putting down some good lap times (1.27ish) and its a pain in the arse when noobies come into ruin the race..
fast or not they wreck you at turn 1.

But i stayed in there a while and was having some of the best racing ive had with a French racer.. we done 3-4 races where we finished within 300th of a second of each other every time..

but PD certainly need to reveiw the penalty method.

Perhaps look at the matching too. If you have someone like you or me that tries to run clean every time out they shouldn't match us with people that cut every corner and ram people at will.

I was just in there at your favorite race a few minutes ago and I had a guy try his best to run me off track. Then he left and sent me a message that said " fair play". I don't remember hitting or bumping or rubbing with him either. I did bump another guy and I waited on the side of the track for him to serve *my* penality and then when he went by I resumed my race. The whole system needs revamping but every now and then you hit a room of good guys and have some fun. Look forward to racing with you.

* never mind the last paragraph as the guy was commending me on my fair play. LOL I guess I better start reading the messages and not just the subject :)

Ok I saw something new yesterday and felt the need to ask others if they have seen this. I was in the Red Bull Ring with the Red Bull Jr cars when I saw my first wheelies. Was racing (lol as if) two guys from Brazil, one was on pole while I was 2nd and the other guy 3rd. I was sitting waiting for the start when they took off doing wheelies. They were past turn 1 when the start went off screen. Obviously they finished 1 and 2.

The next race was more of the same minus the wheelies and the jump start. I was on pole they were 2 and 3. They were through turn one by the time I lifted to turn into the apex. How do you race cars that fast? Can all this be explained by lag. Kinda reminds me of the box my son had years ago that allowed you to do crazy stuff. Anyway has anyone experienced this and what do you do? I exited and went into another room.

A bunch of things need fixing... last night I was racing the newer LMP's at Sarthe 2013 and won the race by 12+ seconds. By the time it got to the screen showing finish times, I went from first to last with a minus sign in front of my winning total race time, but got paid for second... first time I'd seen that one I think.

I've seen cars doing the dolphin dive over other cars a few times at launch. I've seen incredible catch ups on straights that put rubber banding to shame... no way they could go that fast without having people to draft. Lag plays into the equation but yipes! Then there's the blatant cheaters... Grrrr!

One person actually sent me a message after another round thanking me for not blocking his passing attempts... you know things are bad when people thank you for playing fair!

Cheers

Thank you for the tip! My 908 now leaves the Nismo people even further behind at the start.

Sorry to resurrect this rather sad topic but I have to add to the plaintive cries of the masses...

Spa-Francorchamps. 3 laps. 600pp GT3 cars with 'balance of performance' measures applied. Should be a dream race - and I have had 1 or 2 great ones.

Out of about 20 tries.

Just now, a drive was deliberately ramming anyone who got alongside them. There is no penalty for ramming someone off the track, halfway down Kemel Straight! No penalty for weaving side to side. No penality for brake-checking someone when you are nowhere near a braking zone.

Also, cars which are ghosted out sometimes pop back into reality without warning. Unavoidable penalty for hitting a car which wasn't really there 0.1 seconds ago.

A car which is recovering onto the track or lagging backwards at half the speed of everyone else, is ghosted out. Good feature! But then it is instantly solid, seemingly at random. There should at least be a phase of flashing to indicate the change in solidity is about to happen.

Such simple improvements to the logic would halve the annoyance. Even when among lobbies full of bad sports.

(EDIT) I was having a fun race in 3rd place with a pair of GTR drivers. 1st place was driving brilliantly.

2nd was making huge mistakes. Completely off the track, way over the tarmac run-off, even hitting the outside barrier...no penalties! Not even ghosted out! I got alongside but he stayed on the outside so I gave up to avoid a collision.

On the 3rd lap, the 4th place driver in a Z4 catches up with us. With me. Immediately starts bumping the back of my car...with no penalty! Overlaps the corners and tries to PITT me and still no penalty!

Eventually the bashes its way alongside. "OK, whatever, take the place I'm done with this," I think. But no, that isn't the end of it. They steer into the side of my car, pushing it over the exit kerb and the bumpy green surface beyond that.

As my car starts to spin I counter-steer, drifting it along the track boundary. They steer into me again, ramming the nose of my car with the front of theirs. I get a 3 second collision penalty and this sudden, forced, drop in throttle makes the slide unrecoverable.

Shared Pain
I'm sure you all have 100 stories like this.

Now to be clear, the problem here is horrible players spoiling a wonderful game. Sadly the penalty system fails completely to reduce this and - in too many cases - actually penalises the wrong player!

Track Limits
Incidentally, an earlier race forced me to use the grass inside of the downhill 180° early in the lap. I avoided colliding with a half-spinning SLS but collected a 3 second penalty for a "short cut". I can assure you it isn't faster to use the grass here! And yet players can drive 100 metres off the track and ram the barrier outside of the fast turns.

This really isn't good enough. Very disappointing that PD continue to set up the track limits so badly.

There's more losers and piss poor drivers in quick match than anywhere else I can think of. The AI drives better than them. Pretty sad and I hope they have little sense of pride, otherwise my outlook on society is all wrong.
