Well it's released here on Friday. I was expecting them to post it tomorrow but they seemed to do it this morning. They're next day delivery so I have my hopes up...

It's pretty hard, I must say, and was having doubts about how the game was going to work, but now it's starting to become pretty good. It's definitely not as arcady as PGR.
You start out doing "driver offers" to earn enough cash to start your own team. These races are in some of the fastest cars in the game, which overwhelmed me quite a bit since they're pretty fast and unforgiving with all the aids off. But now that I've started the new team in a basic Mustang it's pretty competitive again.
The driver offer races I could barely do on "Serious" difficulty with all aids off except braking assist, but the beginner races seem to be easier. I suppose with more practice and gradually getting up to the faster cars will make me more prepared for them.
I still find the handling a bit twitchy on the limit though, especially in the faster cars/race-spec cars.

How does the race format work? Do the race offers vary, like some are street races, some are track races, some are drifts etc?

They're varied since I've noticed there's some streetraces in the Euro class. But the Tounges and drifts only seem to be in the Japanese class from what I can see already.
I tried the 24 hours Le Mans race (which is only 24 minutes) but when it becomes night time I cannot for the life of me prevent myself from going onto the grass/dirt in some of the corners on the second half of the track. I've had at least 20 retries now so I've just given up.

I just downloaded the demo and must say its impressing. Cant say anything else since its just a demo, but GT, have you tried it with the G25 yet? - I did play the demo with it and cant seem to get a hang of it, the pad seems to works better for me

I'm actually thinking of leaving this, MGS4 is out in a couple of weeks and I know that when I get that no other games are going to get a look in for a while. Right now I'm still buying cars in GT5 (I only have about 30 so far) and having the odd go on Fifa 08 so I'm really not needing a new game right.

Going to be a fun game thats for sure. Has anyone tried racing with the helmet cam option on? Man, that makes it pretty hard for me. I turned the difficulty all the way up and turned off all the aids and turned on the helmet cam and wow, wasn't all that easy. Was trying to get some more points in the drifting like that but the only thing the helmet cam did was make me lose where i was and wreck

Yes the drifting is quite easy in the game, the only easy event type IMO. I have a 27,000,000 point drift!
I can barely win on the higher level races on Savage difficulty. I always keep braking assist on, Fixed camera off and Pro mode off (always have to restart ), but all other aids are off. But I may have to change those if it gets any harder...
There isn't many demolition derbies though.

27,000,000! Damn...im good at drifting in games and i can only get like 1,900,000
