I honestly called the game explicit words aloud and quit after a few laps in the BMW race. WAY too arcady and twitchy which allows hardly any feel to know when the car is about to oversteer. I would love to have the physics back from the previous TOCAs.

Don't know if this will help, but turning off Stability control and Brake assist helped me out greatly, to the point of not even getting any damage.

Stability control seems to make you spin out very, very easy...

Since I found out that the G25 is compatible, I found the right settings for it. I use no driving aids and this in combination with a wheel, it's very nice to drive. But immediatly after playing GRID, I played GT5p and GT5p feels more realistic than GRID. I had to adjust my driving again to be able to play GT5p. :ill:

It really is a perserverance situation with this game, you got to give it a few hours to fune into the hndling, and yeah set it on pro physics with all the assists off. I can get round a 7 lap online race without losing the car to the kitty litter quite easily now the real trick is avoiding the competitors, usualy if you keep out of trouble by taking it easy on the first lap you'll be ok. But the crashes are part of the fun....sometimes. worst one I've been in was 200 yards from the start line! guy 2 cars ahead of me got his bmw slightly kicking out as he pulled off the line, collected the guy to his right and the pair fired off into the wall, I moved to the oposite side of the track only to be collected as they bounced back off the wall......race over, car dead LOL With all the smoke the game produces it can turn into days of thunder sometimes especialy with the V8 cars LOL

smoky? can u use slick tires? :)

Well I turned off all the aids and it is a bit better now, but with the triggers it's still extremely hard to stop the car from oversteering/spinning in a slow corner. At least the Mustang race was quite a bit better to the BMW one - the steering isn't so sharp.

After playing the 360 demo I am impressed. The car handling and characteristics arent as realist as i was looking for but it's great fun. the damage modelling is great and how the tyres come off the walls is a nice touch. I'm up for a 360 race if anyone wants one.

Had some great races online, its somewhat competitive. Also, I was in a race online today in the Pro Muscle Class and it was great! Someone's car infront of me had smoke pouring out of the back couldn't see a thing, but it was great watching everyone infront of me spinning out after not being able to see the road. There's some real good racers out there, keep an eye out. 👍

This game is going to be great! I got the demo last night of xbl and played it. I didn't know that the same people that made dirt made this, but once i started playing it i knew one of two things, either the same people had made it, or someone had done some major style ripping on them. I loved dirt, the best rally game ive ever played (even though it was pretty easy, i played it on the hardest setting and never had a problem beating any comp). Im sure they are going to make a second in the dirt serious, i really hope they do. That game was so good, i need to just buy it. Ive had it out on my gamefly forever now. That and COD4 has been at my house for so long. When the new star wars unleashed comes out i have to send dirt back to get that, also have to send COD4 back when prototype comes out. :(

Yeah some of the guys out there are really ripping the track up, I'm hitting 1.20 on the BMW race, keeping a smooth line and hitting all the apexs but you come accross some people and your just watching them disapear up the road, think the secret is keeping everything smooth as silk and really pushing the exit speed, One thing I have noticed is damage really dose effect the performance as dose the tyre wear in the corners, really dose pay off to stay out of trouble early on. I race online mostly on the 7 lap races (about 10 mins) so taking care of your car is essential, it also seems to diswade other drivers from shunting you as well as front damage is a big top end speed killer.

All I'm sayin is The damage on this game is almost on point. i like the fact that everything is not smooth when you jump the bumps. GT5 needs some of that but they still need to keep it sim.

Well, after playing about 5 hours of this last night, I am going to have to say I love this demo, I've been hoping for a racing game on the PS3 that is slightly arcade-ish, but not completely unreal, and this game fits in great, for me atleast.

I would recommend it as a pick-up-and-play-for-30-minutes racer (which I like because sometimes all I get to play is about 30 minutes worth, and it's great to pick-up-and-go), not a GT-like play-all-day-to-simulate-an-actual-race-racer.

Grid is starting to grow on me, single player is not all that great but online is excellent.... I played loads of races this evening and if GT should have an online setup to look to Grid is by far the best... you can even vote to kick players if they have been 'behaving badly' during the race, the voting for races system is also really good.

I had no lag, it was totally worldwide gameplay and everyone had there countries flag, everyones racing was really good and it shows the damage is a better online penalty system than anything else... There were some spectacular crashes that I weaved through and one where it was me and other player leading to a bottle neck and someone had to give but no one did and we totaled it a MAJOR way! :sly:

Damage makes it exciting, if you crash and it wasnt your fault then you can be angry, similarly if it was your fault then you totally deserve it.... thats life....

Better than some stupid ghost cars and speed penalties that dont even work properly!

All in all the game is worth it just for the online.... the actual single player campaign in the full game may be not that great...

GRID is growinh on me as well. It's more fun in the Mustangs and the chaos you get when you're so close to cars on the grid. The graphics and crashes are spectacular really - me and Dad were taking turns racing and the crashes he done were quite funny since he made an opponent car completely flip over onto another car.

The online is pretty good as well, very stable so far. Competitive too, even though the start is very chaotic (like 8/12 cars all getting involved in a crash). At least damage is on so if people really drive badly then they will eventually become "Wrecked" status.

The GRID demo is amazing. This game in many ways are miles ahead of GT5P, IMO.

This game truly feels like a race sim on PS3 and I am now more excited about it than GT5....LOL.

I'm not thinking of it as a simulator, otherwise my expectations would be higher, but if I expect it to be arcade-ish, then it is incredibly awesome, therefore, I will be buying this on/around June 3rd.

You have to be kidding. A sim? Hardly. Simcade? Definitely... Leaning more towards arcade.

Online is fun, but the physics I'm not sold on, that's for sure.

;)

I agree its not a sim, nor is it an arcade, its somewhere in the middle there. I find the physics to be pretty good if it were a sim though, not great but fair. With traction control turned off it makes the mustang very hard to handle when accelerating from lower speeds though. The thing is all over the place. I killed the AI when playing with the mustang, but in the BMW race it was a good race all the way through.

After a single player race, I jumped into the online. It was mayhem, but I think I learned the controls. :D My fingers wanted to slip off the triggers. But it was pretty good for an arcade game. The physics make the cars seem like they are floating. I could barely tell the difference between the Mustang and the BMW.

edit: Is the demo out for Xbox?

edit: Is the demo out for Xbox?

I downloaded the demo for xbox and thats what ive been playing, i don't have a PS3 as of yet. Waiting for a reason to buy one ( GT5). On the xbox demo there is no online playing option though, well i didn't see it if there was. So, ive been playing the 3 different race types it lets you play. I am going to play it after i eat and look to make sure there isn't an online option in the demo. Be great if there was:tup:

Well, if it's the same as the PS3 demo, it would be under Main Menu-->Multiplayer-->Online (only menu option)

On the subject of GRID, but also in regard to Gametrailers and the 360 vs PS3 comparison videos they like doing (and many people regard as suspect)....

I don't give a flying [censored] about the comparison other than I'll play this on the 360 over the PS3 ANYDAY simply for the better controller from the 360. I also don't care if people say I'm crazy for saying the 360 controller is better over the PS3's.

I prefer the xbox controller over the PS3's also. I played the demo again and there is a multiplayer option for xbox. I never noticed it because when i think demo i really don't think about them letting you play that much of the game. I kept getting into races with people that drove like total wankers though. When i start to pass people i stay off of them and just pass if i can, most of the people i played would try to pit you when they passed or you started passing them. Then there's the ones that can't keep up with the good drivers so they start going in reverse trying to wreck people. Whats funny is that one guy was trying that and i kept making fun of him because i would always dodge him. Its annoying when you want to actually race, not derby.

Hmmm controlers, I didn't like using the trigerst on the PS controler for this game, switched it it config 3 in the menu and used the sticks aka GT, much more control! Couple of things which I've noticed, first up I can actualy drive this in the out of car view (this is unusal for me) an be very handy in the early corners online to keep out of trouble! Secondly the in car view (my usual place) the steering wheel moves WAY to quick and gives a weired visual feel to proceedings, best to ignore it LOL. So to some things to think about, namely the other cars! if you go check out the various videos for this game you'll see quite a spread of vehicles and some good race types. Onethat springs to mind is the oldmuscle cars doing the figure of 8 track with the jump in the crossover! welcome to demolition derby online! also the lemans race....20 mins...online...possibly longer! full night and day sequense! Now for some questions, is there weather effects in the full game? anyone spotted a car list? The demo on the PS3dosn't suport friend invites or voice chat, Can anyoneconfirm this will changein the full game? Will there be multiple car options for certain races, I noticed theres a few makes in the american race can we chosedifferent cars to use?
Right I'll head off to try and awnser some of my own questions lol and I'll leave you with a vid!

Yeah, this is exactly how I feel. It's fun, but not enough to justify the price of buying it.

Right first up......a video! then I'll explain a few things LOL

Right stop either spitting at the PC monitor of rolling on the floor with laughter LOL

I've just spent a good deal of time in the official grid forum....or fanboy centeral as it's known! Devoid of PS3 guys and any information, just endless 360 and PC fanboys comments that there system versions are better than the PS3 version with no replie from the PS3 guys.....I think they see it would be an argument which would fall on death ears LOL. So what did I find out about the full game........nothing! So I had a look elsewhere, namely a few interviews, first up 50 cars, ok not a lot but there all racing modles, no street legal stuff ie honda accord 98 ect ect, so next up Le mans....aparentlythere is (or was) a 24 hour mode........eeek! Thats going to be heavy going but some will love it! second up is the team management area of the game, You basicly managethe team yourace for, this includes hireing a driver for the teams second car (you drive the first) Drivers have different skills such as say being agresive, this works for say the demolition races (yep theres demolition races) but not good for open wheel events (yep again open wheel, don't think about rubbing events) There were also a number of videos about, one of which was a drift event race (toungor tung race multiple cars on track) where it was raining, or at least the track was wet so there could be weather effects, I tried to find if there were voice coms in the final PS3 version of the game but those questions (like so many others) went un awnsered on the official forum. There was also quite a bit of adjustment available on the PC version for various wheels so I would expect that to carry over into the final game of the PS3 version. Finaly can I just warn people off going to the official codemasters forum, it really is a PS3 hate zone there seems to be little moderating going on to address this situation which is a shame as it reflects baddly on codemasters image, the video above was a poke at GT5 but was stickied by the mods, ok so it's funny and pokes fun at GT5 prolouge but with the subsequent fanboy bashing it's turned into 360 vs PS3 video and not what it was originaly aimed at doing...........be warned! In retrospect, This is a GT forum, with GT being a PS exclusive title you'd think it would be Sony fanboy centeral....far from it and thats down to the moderators and the forum is a better place for it....Now go watch the video again and make sure you laugh this tie if you were one of those spitting earlier! LOL
