I've asked Jordan to make this front page news on gtplanet. Hopefully he feels comfortable doing that as is will give the petition much more exposure.

Immortal's English is better than my German. Info is in first couple of posts.

How about a petition to get Connor Clifford another shot? Connor was a finalist last year and had to leave because his father was killed. That would feel good story for Nissan giving him a second chance after his first chance was cut short for tragic reasons. It would be a great story for Nissan to promote.

They tried tooth and nail to get him in this year, and had finally come to the conclusion that it was a no-go.

I have Mike's personal email, but I won't be giving it out in respect to him.

I just got an email back from Brian (legal) for the competition and his response was only one sentence and didn't really give me anything I was looking for. I've let both him and Mike know that there's a large group of people signing a petition and contacting Sony/Nissan with displeasure.

Yes, if all possible sign the petition instead of putting your name here. The petition will carry more weight.

As everyone else, I was crushed upon hearing this news and my heart goes out to Patrick, who has clearly been through some very difficult times. I had the opportunity to speak with him several times at the Finals and I have no questions about the integrity of his character.

However, I will not be posting this on GTPlanet's news blog for several reasons. From an objective point of view, he does appear to be ineligible for GT Academy 2012, having formally plead guilty to a felony. According to this local news article, the judge in his case does plan to dismiss the charges on Patrick's 21st birthday, November 4, 2012, assuming he has met the terms of the plea agreement. However, in yet another unfortunate circumstance for Patrick, that will obviously be too late to help him qualify for this year's competition.

A few of the terms in his plea agreement also make me extremely uncomfortable; as mentioned in the article above, the judge has ordered him to stay away from "social networking" websites. Depending on the judge's definition of a "social networking" website, Patrick's participation in this very community may be deemed in violation of his orders. I consider erasing his criminal record far more important than getting him back into GT Academy, and I believe that further publicizing this debacle is not in Patrick's best interest.

Finally, I think it is worth noting the Nissan & Sony representatives at the event were as excited as anyone about Patrick's story and how he made it into the competition. He is a charismatic underdog and introduced an exciting story line which I am sure they were looking to highlight on the television show this fall. If there was a way to keep him in the competition, anyone who could be appealed to has likely already expressed their support of him to whomever made the decision. Ultimately, they are respecting the rules of their competition, and we must acknowledge that.

My only concern for Patrick at the moment is that his record is formally cleared by the judge this November. He can then put all of this behind him, and focus on winning GT Academy next year. 👍 👍

I agree the most important thing will be to get Patrick's record cleared in November and I don't want to do anything to jeopardize that. Thank you Jordan for sharing your insight on this and I respect your position.

I have two feelings about this. Pat's story is absolutely amazing and he pretty much dominated the Finals weekend. I signed the petition. Is there a way for this to go public without causing people to read articles like the one Jordan posted above?

I'm wondering about this... rules state that finalists (He is technically a finalist, right?) can not participate the next year (assuming these restrictions are to follow into 2013), so would they allow him to return? Or would they keep their word?

Well put Jordan, I never got the chance to talk to Patrick. But everyone deserves a second chance. Let's hope that Patrick after his 21st birthday, can finally live life without any worries

So I just got some heart-breaking news from one of our very own. Patrick Crider (GTP_SohnVonStig), a.k.a. Racer-X has been deemed ineligible due to discretionary action that was originally allowed by Sony and Nissan. The ruling can be overturned at any time.

We all know he has worked extremely hard for this, just as the rest of the GT Academy Participants have and he deserves the chance to compete along them. If you can, please try to contact some Sony or Nissan representative and tell them that you want Patrick to compete in this year's GT Academy since he earned his spot in Silverstone. Or if you cannot do that, at least leave your support here on this thread.

If you want more info, please contact either Jett (Jett_Racer) or I and we'll inform you more in-depth of this entire situation. We'll be acting as Patrick's contacts to try to ramify this unfortunate event.

Sincerely,
Joey Alves (VELOCI_2NR)

If you can, please sign this petition if you wish for Patrick to get a shot at GT Academy.

You can't hide the truth. A simple google search and you can read the article Jordan linked. If they bend the rules for Patrick they'd have to bend the rules for everyone.

I wish Patrick all the best. 👍

I'm pretty sure a half-decent lawyer should find it easy to prove that a particular game title fan site+forum is not a "social networking" service. But I agree that this does not need more publicity, cause even half-decent lawyers cost big dough.

I would not worry about this site being considered a "social netoworking site". Doing so would create a slippery slope to any site that allows users to communicate with each other in any way. Considering this, the rules would practically have to state, "stay off the internet". While this may be the definition in a book, it is not the accepted public definition. I would also add that if his name is not disclosed on his public profile, ie anonymity, that offers a layer of cushion. If you cannot identify any person(s), it would be unreasonable to assume the website would be used to attack a specific person(s).

True. I did a google search with his name and a slew of stories with various mugshots is what came up. Pretty sure Sony, PD, and Nissan don't want these kind of stories and exposure connected to one of its contestants. Its a heartbreaking story and all, but the guy really needs to concentrate on getting his life back together before doing anything else. Sounds like it would have been a woderful story if not for this one blemish. Even tho I am against signing the petition for my own reasons, I would like to take this time to say this to Patrick himself. Life is full of disappointments and set backs. Its how we deal with those situations that can make you a better person. The main thing Patrick is never give up...never give up. Best wishes to you.

Good question.

Well, it says; "winning contestants who advance to Silverstone" so I would take that as he would be eligible for next year, since he never technically advanced to Silverstone, but who knows how they'll try to spin it. Hopefully he just gets in this year though, he more than deserves it.

Would him making the finals of this contest and having a good shot at winning it not constitute a good example of him getting his life back together? The guy has done what he was told to get into a position where the charges could be dropped, and I think him going far in GT Academy could very well be a great example to show the judges just how far he has come. If anything, this contest could HELP him when it comes time to face the judge.

He deserves to go.

I don't think anyone can point this out better 👍
