He competed, obviously knowing full well of his background, but it was a gray area with his situation, so do you really blame him for giving it a shot? He is allowed to leave the country, vote, and do everything else a convicted felon can't do, so he figured there was a good shot he could compete.

Apparently Nissan and Sony thinks otherwise, and since it is their gig, we can't really force any issue. The reason for this thread and the petition was to show support for Patrick and at least try, though unlikely, to sway the thoughts of the guys up top.

Next year, they will hopefully reword the rules to rid the problems that they faced this year with GT Academy.

I guess I feel he should have clarified the rules before competing. I would have done that if I was in a gray area of the rules. I don't blame him for wanting to compete or wanting a chance. Anyways what's done is done. I think you understand me and I get where you're coming from. I'm gonna get ready for next year and move on.

Just for the purpose of giving the data. On the night before the finals I was the one who found this and brought it to the organizers attention that night. Before anyone blames me for ruining his life realize this would have come up in the background check that they do after the finals anyways. Anyways because I thought he would be DQ'd and as second place in Racer X I'd get a chance I tracked down the organizers that night and talked to them about it to see what they wanted to do. They told me they told Pat he had the option to withdraw at that point with the knowledge that he might be DQ'd if he makes it. They said they gave him till 9am the next day to decide. It wasn't at least as they told me as black and white as they said he was qualified and then changing their mind. It sounded to me that they did some looking into it and that legally he could do finals but might not make it through the background check. Anyways there's a lot more that was said that night about this to me but out of respect for the people who said it and in the interest of just providing what I know about this I'll refrain from saying that.

One comment I have to say even though I did say I would stay out of this I feel I have to say. Those who are defending Pat I admire that you are standing up for your friend but have to say you aren't looking at the whole picture. The fact is he decided to compete knowing he had this on his record. He did commit the crime even if it was justified. Rules are rules and without them games don't really exist. I'll be honest once I found out he was going to be allowed to compete in the finals I hoped he would be found in compliance with the rules because otherwise he wasted an opportunity that would have been mine otherwise. I'm sure you don't care but it's a valid point. On top of that do you really think Nissan and Sony want someone with a background that's questionable as their sponsored driver?

Listen I firmly hope that Pat's life gets better for him. He went through some rough times it seems. I firmly believe that people are basically good and didn't see anything with Pat to change that view. However I firmly believe in personal responsibility and from that view Pat is not a victim of anyone. He wrote the threat. He violated the law. He entered the finals knowing his qualifications were in question and most likely knew the same for Racer X.

For those who think I'm a whiny loser I know why I lost and it wasn't because of Pat. I simply wasn't good enough this year to pull it off. I don't blame anyone but myself and that's why I'm focused on next year and will come back to win next year. The only reason I'm even posting is because there's a few things I've been reading that simply aren't true. Those of you who are his friends you might look at the way you respond to posts you don't agree with because it's just rude. The first post in this thread asked for opinions either way on if he should go. If you didn't want that you shouldn't have asked.

And you are still going and going and going. You are helping my point be validated more.

This thread should just be closed, as it's not helping in anyways. The only positive as aspect from an outside point of view, is that someone created a petition to help Patrick still compete regardless of his background. Other then that, Patrick is the only person that knows any truth to what happened after Racer X. Racer X was a fun experience, and we all wanted that spot. But it's sad to hear that all of this dirty laundry got aired out in the open. But we can't do anything now, let what happens between Patrick, Nissan, and Sony pan out. And try again next year

Literally my only complaint with Pat is if he knew the rules he shouldn't have competed. That's it.

This guy motivated me to activate an account here.

There were 17 people at the national finals who didn't make it to Silverstone. There were some who were eliminated because of circumstances that can be interpreted as unfair, and there were some who were obviously hurt by not making the top 16. All of those 17 conducted themselves with a ton of class and that is something I find extremely admirable.

Hill, I don't believe a word you say about only having a complaint with Patrick competing because he was in violation of the rules. Your argument is personal. If you claim it's not personal, you are spewing a ton of .......... well, you know.

Because of your classless behavior, I certainly hope you don't make it very far in next year's academy. The program will be better off without bitter individuals like yourself in it.

Alright I'm done. I really couldn't stop myself from posting this because this guy's behavior really lit a fire under me.

I really like Stig or Patric, but in a day an age where people are loosing lives in movie theaters I would have to agree with Sony and Nissan.:indiff:

Veloci just caught me up on this unfortunate development. I'm doing what I can on my end, we'll see if it goes anywhere?

I love how the community and other competitors have come together to try and make this happen. Hopefully this all works and Patrick can go through to Silverstone.

Just a thought (and it is probably a little late) would it be worth petitioning the judge to clear Patrick's name early? The only issue I see is that he still plead guilty to a felony, so this may have no effect?

I'm very much against violence or even the threat of violence, but to be given felony charges from an idle threat over the internet seems to be very much out of hand in this case when an assault w/out battery (in person, not over the internet) is typically considered a misdemeanor......

So not only are you insulting me but calling me a lier. And you're complaining about my lack of class. Really? How could it be personal? I met him at Racer X and when we talked I had nothing against him at all. Seemed like a nice guy.

I don't know how anyone can defend this.He made a decision to make threats. It was a cowardly one at that. This is a big problem today everyone is scared to take a little ass kick in.Win or loose you gain more respect from people that way,and you feel better about yourself while putting ice on your shiner.

Seems funny that the supporters can name call and flame people. But anybody with a different opinion is not allowed to state it. Or even post here.

The fact that the mods on this board allow it. And allow this thread to continue? Truly tells their story.

They demanded only supporters post here. Now it seems only name calling and harsh words are being posted.

Who of the supporters resorted to name calling and flaming? You're the ones who came back even though you were told not to post unless you would post support, or at least, an actual opinion not based around insults. Just because two people have a different opinion on a subject doesn't mean anyone is attacking anybody. The fact that the moderator took the supporters side I think explains it all. You're are the ones that started the insults, but we try to defend and we're out of line. So what, we're supposed to just let you insult someone we support?

So idle threats you have a problem with, but not violence? You're seriously going to call the guy a coward? So playnthru, how is this not an insult? Oh, but I must be the one out of line.

Talk is cheap, my friend. I do wonder how you would go about handling this very sensitive situation if you were a mod here. here's a hint how things would pan out for you; Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Like I said, talk is cheap, and to be honest I'm sick and tired of members like you who think it's so easy and criticise at every opportunity.

I think it is clear nothing more than hard feelings will emerge from this topic now and it will be closed. Any further discussion about this should be handled via private message.

Playnthru, your attempts to involve GTPlanet's moderation staff in this debate while they attempt to keep the conversation civil are inappropriate, incorrect, and have been noted.
