Racing Battle: C1 Grand Prix

Ok, first of all, there's a story that I can't understand. Secondly, parts that I buy for the car, there's lotsa of them, but where's the fun of buying parts when you have no idea what you're buying?(Except, exterior changes, rims etc.) So then, tuning is no fun. Now we're coming to the race.. Oooo, what's that, akward arcadey physics  and 'mechanically' sounding car sound.

And yeah, it's buy the car, buy the parts(even tho you have no idea what you're buying), then race it with those arcadey slidey physics... And so on...

p.s.: The whole concept of story, tuning etc. is very very nice. If you could connect that with enthusia it would be perfect.

Story : probably the usual thing : A Nobody fights its way to the Top....
Parts : You have the game, I havn't, but I'm sure it is not so hard to find out if you have bought engine parts, turbo parts, suspension parts... just get used to the game, won't be a problem after a few houres
Physics : Well, Genki never made diehard simulaions, it always was in the middle or Ridge Racer and Gran Turismo...

Ryosuke_Gumna: I guess that there are lotsa of parts.. Especially when im lost in them, stupid japanese..

p.s.: I stopped playing the game after 1 hour, it really got me bored...

I'm due to receive my copy over the next few days, so I'll post some additional impressions once it arrives. A bit of shame it's so text heavy, but I'm sure I'll be able to work through it, I managed to complete Final Fantasy X in Japanese so this should be fine :) Maybe once enough people have it we should start a translation/guide thread?

I couldn't watch the video... didn't want to search for a program now, I stood up about 18 hours ago with a short night,..... so what is that all about, with these translations and so on ? Is there really that much text in this game ? I mean it's hard to imagine in a racing game ... or maybe there is a lot of text but how can you get stuck in a racing game? As I said before, buy a car, race, win, tune it, buy another car; in the meantime just click through all the menus and text masses and that's it... or not ?....

Buying a car, ok thats fun, racing - no fun(Imagine taking rally version of lancer evo with slicks on tsukuba, you push down the throttle and car just slides all over the place), tuning(no fun, everything in tuning shop is in japanese, I'm not enjoying buying things when I don't know what they are), buy another car and blabla.. I dunno, but i don't enjoy such a loop.. Kaido Battle 2 was somehow much much much more fun...

Well I think I'll have to wait and play myself... Although I prefer simulation racing games, I can also enjoy Ridge Racer V .... so I don't think that the steering will be a problem for me... Well concerning the tuning, I still think that you are able to find out what you are buying... have you much experience with japanese games apart from Kaido Battle ? Maybe you just need a little time to get used to...

I finally got to play the game so time for my impressions...

Cars will oversteer and slide really easily in this game. I first played it with my DFP and it took me a few runs to get used to the feel. This isn't a sim racer so I shouldn't really compare this with games like GT4 or Enthusia, but with the DFP it feels a little sensitive and a bit hard to counter-steer the car back once it breaks loose under braking. I tested with a normal DS2 and it was much easier to play. Using the DFP just didn't feel that right to me. It's not that the cars are hard to control, but it feels like a mix of both sim and arcade racer elements. The game is still fun once you get the hang of the handling.

So far I can browse through menus and figure out the options myself. The only problem I have is not understanding a few of the tuning parts' names. One thing I'm wondering is if there will be any difference in the game depending on the manufacturer's parts I buy. The only thing I've noticed is I can apply stickers of the manufacturers which my tuning parts are from, but other than that I don't notice anything special. Overall the game is still very much playable even with plenty of Japanese text, but I guess I'm just used to playing Japanese games :)

In the beginning you start off with 5,000,000 credits to buy a new or used car. It was enough to buy cars like RX-8, S2000, Integra Type-R, etc. While going through Quest Mode I noticed the used cars available to buy changes, and some of them are already slightly tuned. I don't know exactly how cars get unlocked, but new cars keep appearing as I progress through the game. Difficulty-wise, it's really easy to play so far. I haven't had any trouble winning races. There's 3 main modes of races within Quest Mode: RP, SP, DP. RP battles involve racing around a course to the finish line, SP is like the traditional Tokyo Extreme Racer battles, and DP are drift point battles.

I'll play it a bit more when I have time :)

I doubt it. I believe the only Genki racing game(s) released outside of Japan was the Tokyo Extreme Racer series.

That's true, but who knows ? Battle Gear 2 was released in Europe for 20 EUR or so under a different name... But since this one includes a lot of text etc... no I don't think so...
Damn, no time to play... I have time in about 11 hours when I come back from university...

yes kinda easy at 1st, but is frustrating to dont know what are u doing or selecting :(

should email genki team to remind them although their games are supposed to be for Japan only, there are a lot of players around the world appreciating their work and at least just the menu selections in english (KB2 like) would be very welcome..

I played it for an hour or so last night and I'm really enjoying it so far. The text can be a bit of a hinderance (that link I posted earlier in this thread really helped), but I'm slowly getting my head around it. As for the racing, it's superb, it definitely has that 'battle' magic that genki's previous games have had. The RP, SP and DP battles give a nice spread of variety.

Started off with an RX-8 and still had some money left over for a few mods. I'm not all that far in my quest, but my car is already looking very cool. I have some time booked off work so I have a long weekend, plus my missus is going away, so I have 5 days of racing ahead of me! :D

Played this a little more last night and I have to say this is probably the best 'battle' game Genki have produced so far. Despite there not being many courses there's a lot of variety in the type of racing. Plus, not all the racing takes place in the seat of your own car, some require you to hop into another motor, which is great cause you might never have thought about buying some of these cars and so would have never driven them.

I did a time trial event around the Shutoko course and it was one of the most satisfying virtual drives I've had of late, I was grinning from ear-to-ear. It's also great to be able to drive these highways in the daylight, having run hundreds of laps around them in the dark in the Shutoko Battle series.

Anyway, that menu translation thread on GameFAQs has been updated again with a brief run down of the options in the Tuning Shop:

does anybody know how to view the tach when your using the "behind view" of the car? I don't wanna use the inside view to look at the tach while shifting.
