Rain & Snow in Gran Turismo 5 - [UPDATED] finally, officially confirmed!!!!!

At this stage I honestly think they will have live track weather. They have confirmed you can link up to the actual time at a circuit so I'm now sure that will include live weather too. Nothing crazy, just Normal, Overcast, Light Rain, Heavy Rain and wet with no rain.

Think about it, on the Top Gear test track, times often get set on a wet track and when the time is put on the leader board it has (wet) in beside it. And there is nearly more rain than sunshine in that part of the world it would be a bit unrealistic if it was dry 24/7

Exellent Point! 👍

Didn't GT Prologue feature track times and weather conditions even though there were no weather conditions in that build? 💡

this got me thinking that with different weather conditions we will also find more challenging scenarios because rain takes you almost all the visibility, also the fog,if is true that the night day cycles will be added to several tracks(lets say la sarte for example)then the time and weather condition will change according to the time of the day,in example for in morning, rain in afternoon time, even snow in close night times and maybe heavy rain on a night race, but that would be a nightmare, and really fun

I know PGR4 wasn't a great game or anything - but for it's time - graphically, it was a titan!

We all know Gran Turismo 5 will be the best looking racing game ever made - but just look at these screenshots of the in-game rain effects from PGR4 on the cars and track:

This one is pretty amazing for a 2-year old game

One of my favorites. The rain textures on the car model make the vehicle look nearly photo-realistic.

Again, excellent rain drop texturing. I can't wait to see what PD does with rain in GT5!

This one isn't about the rain - it just looks very photo-realistic. I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't from a Gran Turismo game! :sly:

If Bizarre Creations can do this with the technology they had 2 years ago, Polyphony Digital can do even better today with rain in Gran Turismo 5.

I keep thinking about that feature in GT5P - maybe that is a hint to players that weather will most assuredly be in the final build of GT5? What other reason would we need to see it? :sly:

I will enjoy GT5 more if there is weather. Rain is my biggest hope, but snow and fog are great too and as they occur in reality - Polyphony Digital should include them. Add to that statement, Kazunori Yamauchi stating multiple times that they are working on rain and rain effects for GT5 and we may have a winner!

Let's hope so. 👍

Is this for real!
Im hoping there will be a PGR5 now!

This series has always been billed as 'The Real Driving Simulator'. I think something is seriously wrong if they cant have some basic form of dynamic weather after the 5th installment, especially since other games have been doing things like this for years.

Finally, we have confirmation about dynamic weather in Gran Turismo 5!

Thank you Kazunori Yamauchi and thank you Shuhei Yoshida for letting us know just how amazing GT5 is going to be.

GT5 really is the ultimate racing game - dynamic weather, 1,000+ vehicles, over 20 tracks [possibly 40], the ability to create our own tracks, damage, rollovers, NASCAR, WRC, Stunt Racing, Kart Racing, F1 and possibly Drag Racing and Drift Racing.

Thanks again and we all can't wait for November 2nd!

Why Rain and Snow should be included in GT5?

So those lil boys in the warm countries and states that never seen or driven on slick surfaces will get a bite of what a real daily driver meets in bad weather.

Not at all - it's so that "The Real Driving Simulator" can simulate every single condition a racer could face - and that includes weather.....like rain. :sly:

Lol I was just bagging on those kids who think they can brake late in slick weather :D

Funny thing I don't know if anyone noticed but on the Tuscanny track in the video on the news page is says right above the track name "snow/dirt".

Probably going to have snow if it said that.

That is probably referring to the type of tires that the vehicle has equipped - and that means that snow should be in the game. :sly:

I didn't even think of that. Your response was whole lot more helpful than the previous. Thanks

Lol! Thanks!

I don't know if any of you have heard, but there is a little controversy brewing over the confirmation of previously unannounced GT5 features made by Shuhei Yoshida on the UK PlayStation site.

Kazunori Yamauchi using his twitter account tweeted that "He was shocked that Yoshida talked about those features" and that "He should have asked us first".

Basically, there are two sides to this debacle:

1). Kaz is mad that Yoshida literally let the cat out of the bag - he stated in an interview things that Yamauchi and company planned to surprise GT fans with at Gamescom in August and then finally at the TGS in September.

2). None of it is accurate. Yoshida mentions things that were going to be in GT5 and then for whatever reason, they were taken out.

I personally believe that 1). is the correct way to look at this situation. Shuhei Yoshida is the President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios and as such, he is going to know everything concerning the goings-on of his studios and also their partners.

He was obviously excited to hear the final features list of Gran Turismo 5 and he couldn't contain it, so he spilled the goods during the interview - thus, irritating Kazunori Yamauchi.

If these features were definitely not going to be in GT5 - Yoshida would have already been well aware of that fact and he would not embarrass himself like this by spreading false information worldwide. He isn't the President of SCE Worldwide Studios for nothing, after all. He is a consumate professional and he would not be where he is today if he jumped the gun on false information regarding a huge Sony-exclusive title like this. :sly:

I believe Kaz also denied rumours of the Nurburgring until around GT4's release, so even if he's denying it, it still may be true.

It was at the bottom of the page on the GT5 page at igcd.net

It looks like the ground is wet in the picture. Is it just me?

Yoshida was telling the truth.

Like I said before, he wouldn't be where he is today if he made drastic, misleading errors like this. If it were all lies, Kaz would have cleared it up definitively. :sly:

Yes - rain will make GT5 the pinnacle of racing games.

Snow is great - if it's included - but with "dynamic weather", rain would obviously have to be complemented by snow.....and then someone would ask for Tsunami's. :yuck:

Just give us rain and snow Polyphony Digital - and then you will get nothing but adoration from me - oh, and millions of other people too.

👍 :sly:

We are not comparing anything. :sly:

PGR4 has amazing weather effects on top of a sub-par game...

...It should be included because it adds to the realism and immersion of feeling as thought you are actually racing and as such, GT5 would be a better game if weather is implemented.

...The only thing up for discussion is perhaps the damage system but all else is either implemented in the game already or has fallen off to the wayside (due to resources, time and the PS3's capability)...

I haven't played PGR4, but have the vids seem pretty nice. The GT series (and its fans) would certainly benefit from dynamic weather for just the reason you gave if for none other. myke6699, I agree, but I also figure that PD could quite possibly put all of our requests into this installment, but where would that leave future versions of the franchise? There's got to be that trickle of anticipation, and relief (for some) when our wishes come true in the form of this racing sim. But Kaz and crew undoubtedly will withhold some possibilities and save them for GT6, 7, 8... Just a thought.:sly:

I would be just fine with different levels of rain, snow and fog.

Syncronizing the actual track time of day and current weather conditions in GT5 would be a blast also. Imagine racing the Daytona 500 and the actual time and current weather at the real track is faithfully recreated in GT5! Great stuff.

They could use a Weather Channel app like Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10/11. 👍
