Rain & Snow in Gran Turismo 5 - [UPDATED] finally, officially confirmed!!!!!

The best part about PGR4's implementation which I hope GT5 has is the inclusion of rain puddles which completely change how you approach a track.

i totally agree. when i watch racing, and race in real life, how you approach a track (when it is wet) changes dramatically. puddles can form on the racing line or in the apex of a turn, forcing you to take different approaches to the corner... and as the track begins to dry, you need to make sure your rain tires dont begin to blister, so you need to stay on a wet patch of track as much as possible... if PD is going to have rain, im hopping they go the distance and make it the way it is. otherwise, there are going to be allot of disappointed GT fans :scared:

Dynamic weather kept PGR4 interesting because quite frankly the tracks were dull and no real driver's challenge. It was nice to dash over a bridge, the rain having stopped and the sun setting down in the far distance. Very well done, indeed.

I like that sort of eye candy, but I can't really see it fit into the PD art style, sorry.

PGR4 had dynamic weather? Where was my mind at while playing that game? :dunce:

The thing I myself did not like about PGR was that no matter how hard it rained the water on the windsheild was always the same accumulation. Also the drops on the cars outside and side windows were all frozen.. there was no animation or depth to them.

It was fun for a little while but the game modes did not suite my fancy.

EDIT: But where are my manners, this is a Gran turismo site.. My deepest appologies!

Personally I really hope weather is in GT5. Imagine an online race with your friends and it starts raining. Do you make a pit stop or risk staying out hoping its brief shower. This would add a whole new dimension to online racing because strategy comes into play.

I actually lived that moment as I read it. Here's to having weather in Gran Turismo 5!

Kudos my friend! 👍👍👍👍👍

Oh, I think it was a typo, because on the video the guy says February 2nd. Also, I think the game is still being released on November 2nd in Europe as well. All of the shops say that is the date. But yes back on track, having snow and rain included will be awesome. Especially if the weather changes throughout a race. I wonder if that means the game will include seasons? Because surely it can't just snow randomly in any race?

Not just randomly without regard to season but also to location as it doesn't snow everywhere and in real life a lot of racing series have a winterstop for obvious reasons as snow on a track is mostly an accurance in rallying, not track-based racing I believe.
If we do get dynamic weather I doubt that it include more than rain on tracks and maybe snow will only be permanent ( like in GT4 ) or in dynamic form possibly limited to rally-tracks only.
Although a snowy city-track ( or any track ) will probably look great and be fun as well, just don't think it'll be very likely.:)

I wonder if it's common for it to snow at the Nurburgring? Even if it isn't dynamic, racing around the Nordschleife on snow would be great fun!

Think it's pretty common to snow there, just wonder if it's open for the public when it's covered in snow in real life.

I doubt that the snow will be as integrated as this, but don't you think it would be good if as more cars run over the same piece of track that the snow compacted and turned into ice? Unless snow is also falling, then I guess you wouldn't notice it as much. But by the last few laps the track would be trecharous.

Actually, I don't think that snow would turn into ice as a result from multiple car-passing.
For a reference, check WRC rally-Sweden for instance, (multiple car-passing on the same stretch of snow tracks), and in the end of the day the snow is progressively removed and the cars are digging into a layer of mud.
Basically, snow is rather turned into liquid water (or rather, slush) under such circumstances. Then it would take another freezing cycle (without car-passing) to turn that back into ice.

Yeah but that is when they are racing on top of dirt. Let's say it was still really cold outside, around freezing then surely the snow would get compacted more because it's on tarmac rather than dirt?

It also depends on whether it's still freezing I guess, anyway I can't really see them implement it to this level right now.
I'm guessing dynamic weather will be limited to rain ( if it's even dynamic ) and snow will be limited to certain rally-tracks only ( they might add snow falling as a visual element at most I think ).

I'd like to see both ice and snow in the game. It adds and extra dimension of difficulty to some tracks. However, it has to be able to be turned on and off in the arcade and online modes because you can have a setup designed for a specific condition while the other drivers don't. It's basically cheating, in a way.

In my opinion (someone who's been living in Canada for 3 years :P ), not really. Snow turns into slush whatever lies below. Eventually you'll find wet asphalt underneath (after the car-passing pushes the slush on the sides). It also depends if sand or salt is used (they enhance snow removal and prevent the formation of ice).
To have some sort of "instant-refreeze" (I mean, within the span of a race), you'll probably need temperatures below -30 C.

Who else agrees that we should have hail, the size of watermelons! It would be soooo totally awsome to try to finish a race without your car falling apart and exploding into a million pieces! :D

Wasn't it Fuel that had those kind of weather conditions?

So I hear that weather was finally confirmed - but it may not be present on all tracks.

Lets hope that Polyphony Digital can add weather for all the tracks in GT5 with the time they have left before the game goes gold.

👍👍👍👍👍

would be cool if on some of the longer races, weather changed and you have to pit in and change tires, like in f1
I want that to happen. In real life, the racing line will be dryer than the rest of the track. So there would be more grip on the racing line. Lets hope that it is included in gt5.
