Rain & Snow in Gran Turismo 5 - [UPDATED] finally, officially confirmed!!!!!

Hopefully, the Tokyo Game Show will reveal the weather system and also all of the other as-of-yet unidentified/unknown features!

Seeing as we thought we'd get quite a lot of new informations at Gamescom and didn't actually get that much. I feel like TGS will just be weather and some new cars and tracks and that's it unfortunately :embarrassed:

Rain WILL be included in GT5.

Maybe in all of the info overload from Gamescon...this image was overlooked. If you look on the right hand side where it says "Weather", you can see a cloud with rain falling from it. Obviously, this is a raincloud.

This is an image from the Course Maker. But if there is rain in the course maker, then there will be in the tracks that already exist. http://us.gran-turismo.com/us/news/d5297p3.html

Make sure you scroll halfway down the page and click on the Course Maker picture on the right hand side.

Overlooked? on GTP? something on the Official site?

I think the debate continues because Kaz said (insert source) something like "weather and day cycles wont be available on all circuits" and we have been seeing only Premium Circuits.

So i guess the theory is that only Premium Circuits will have the weather\day cycles.

I posted this as well but it was as you put it overlooked.

lol, I don't know about Premium Circuits.. I just hope they are all at least up to the standard of Prologue..

Don't get anyone wrong on here everyone wants weather to play some part in the game. And the evidence is there for the whole *is rain at least in there* argument.

Personally I think it will be in there, there is enough evidence of it (rain tyres in off screen pics to name one..). But noone knows to what degree it will be included in the full game. Thats why everyone is waiting to TGS "the last hoorah" before launch maybe we will get more info. I'm hoping anyhow..

If you look at gameplay menus from the GC\E3 demos you can see all the circuits are marked Premium...

GT5P's cars are all premium, presumably the circuits are too.

These "non-premium" circuits have yet to be seen but my guess is that the majority of them are returning GT4 circuits in HD. Still yet to be seen. But if they were all the same quality they wouldnt be labeled Premium...

There aren't any track marked as premium in the last demos, in the demo for the 24H LeMans was where we saw for the first time a circuit marked premium but after that we haven't seen it again.

Here you have a video from the track selection menu at GameCom:

There aren't any premium circuit anymore, probably some circuits will have some options, like day/night cicle or dynamic weather, that other track doesn't, having only the option to choose a especific daytime and a especific weather for all the race, but apart from that I don't expect any other difference.

Right, it was the single track demos, that showed De La Sarthe and Nurburgring as Premium...
LeMans Demo

So I wonder what that's all about. They wouldnt put Premium if it was consistent with the rest of the tracks... Could be these select tracks are gonna have race-day atmosphere weather day night yadda yadda... Time will tell.

You know what's funny? Rain just like damage is something people usually scream for, much like brake locking, but when it comes to play the game, they usually drive with sunny weather, turn damage off and turn ABS on - I know I do in PC games :D

I have some games that have rain and such, but I never race in the rain, ever :P

In real life, if people have control over the weather, they want it to be sunny 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, but we can't, but at least we can in a game ;)

True! But hopefully we will have the option of racing the Green Hell in the dark and it raining....

Yes, I did as well in GTR2, mainly because I was using the keyboard! But with GT5 physics (and more tame vehicles) and a steering wheel, what used to be a chore and unplayable now becomes a new way to play the game, driving more conservatively, avoiding hydro-planing etc.

Besides, when Tsuchiya says that "real drivers, prove themselves in the rain" you cant turn down that challenge!

But it keeps you on your toes, even in a Fiat Punto Abarth youknow if you're not careful and deliberate you can lose it like this :snap:.

Don't say that, I found driving on the limit in the GT5 Time trial considerable harder than in GTR Evolution, and it felt more complex. The physics in GTR games are pretty simple.

And that's with slick tyres on a dry flat track with a relatively underpowered car and easy to drive FR car. Add wet tyres, water on an uneven road and maybe wind and things will change in a hurry...

That would be killer if they can implement wind to push your car back and forth :)

I kindda agree most playing time will be set to Sunny weather ,don't think I will try Snow more than once to be honest but after seeing Spa today, certainly Rain will be a great feature.

There are three atmospheric effects I'm looking for in GT. 1) Rain. While I love booming around a track in perfect conditions it would be nice to panic as dark brooding clouds move in on the course, also if fully dynamic it could rain on the back of the circuit but be dry on the front, raining on the whole circuit isn't truly dynamic, also stand water needs to come into play. Nothing worse than aquaplaning under heavy breaking.

2) race time. Picking your start time of arace, I would love to start a time trial session at dawn and watch as the light get higher, also tie this into time of the year.

3) fog, I've said it before and I will say it again, I would love a low hanging mist to be present to show of some of the cool lighting effects, especiall round the ring late evening with a thin fog rolling in and a couple of LMP cars winding round the carousel all lights blazing and lighting up the fog beems flashing and moving all around, those mist shots of taillights as they break into the next corner and disappear round it.

Hmm i was wondering, do you think we could change weather conditions in photomode? At first we could have some heavy rain to give the car that wet look, then bring out glorious sunshine, the light reflecting off the car would look so beautiful! :)

Dynamic weather is a given. Even if its not on all tracks. But its sure going to be fun taking a TVR Speed 12 with no assists on a wet track. Will it ever get traction?

I just hope that there are varying degrees of rain in GT5. By varying degrees, I mean light rain, medium rain and heavy rain [meaning thunderstorm conditions].

This would all be random and on the courses that it happens dynamically during a normal race or endurance race, the game will randomly set-up how strong the storm will be.

Also, Polyphony Digital could make it rain/snow on all tracks - it just might not be dynamic; which is fine by me as long as there is a random element to how weather appears on all the tracks.

Lets say you choose a circuit and are starting a race. It will be random as to what time of day it is and what the weather is like. That way, it will give you a new experience every time you play.
