Rain & Snow in Gran Turismo 5 - [UPDATED] finally, officially confirmed!!!!!

Not at all - it's so that "The Real Driving Simulator" can simulate every single condition a racer could face - and that includes weather.....like rain. :sly:

If we can have dynamic weather linked into real time weather conditions then we'll all be glued to weather reports at different tracks in different seasons! No reason why the Nordschliffe or other tracks can't be covered in snow! Not sure how much fun that would be though, a challenge certainly.

I hope that weather (dynamic or otherwise) will be the next piece of the jigsaw shown in a couple of weeks.

If they do decide to have rain and snow, I hope it is as good as PGR4. They truly nailed it with that game.

They did...

If anyone has seen the F1 2010 vid about weather (don't worry this is a reference) they have weather "well rain & a wet track" looking realistic in their game.

What I do wonder is though, if it runs at 30 fps.. and GT runs at 60... would it be possible to have a similar system?.. to keep that 60 fps...

If there is enough processing power left or ram it can be done and still keep the 60 FPS

Absolutely.

The PS3 is a powerhouse that only a select few developers have mastered. Polyphony Digital is one of those developers.

They can squeeze every last drop of processing power out of it and layer on tons of realistic graphical features and still keep the frame rate a silky-smooth 60 fps.

I really hope that rain makes the GT5 features list - I will be so happy. 👍

So do I, I think they can get the most out of the machine so to speak...

That's not to say I'm getting my hopes up.. but it would be amazing to have variable weather, and weather than changed as you raced... But overall GT5 to me is already a done deal. But even if we don't get it for 5, part of me still hopes....

Don't know if you guys know about it already or not, but rain and snow have been confirmed by one of the PD guys in this video:
http://g4tv.com/videos/47914/Gran-Turismo-5-Comic-Con-2010-Interview/?quality=hd

He's awfully inarticulate but he mentioned something about unlocking the speed of the car and Indy 500.
Watch it yourself.

Did he just say februari 2nd this year? It's a sony guy by the way, not a PD guy. He talks about unlocking fields of cars, so just like other GT games.

EDIT: whoops tree'd

Im 99% certain that weather will be in GT5 because I have 2 different magazines stating so. Also Kaz did say they have weather already in GT5 ages ago but were debating whether to implement it or not. Looks as though they decided to include it.

Personally I really hope weather is in GT5. Imagine an online race with your friends and it starts raining. Do you make a pit stop or risk staying out hoping its brief shower. This would add a whole new dimension to online racing because strategy comes into play.

By the manufacturer of the game.
Check amazon UK's manufacturers description. It's says"dynamic weather"

it's my understanding that it's against trading standards to advertise features that will not be included.

Then thats not the manufacturer of the game. Retailers have no weight in their words.

I believe they are breaking the law by writing their own manufacturers description.

Are you saying they do there own research for all items on amazon.
I find that difficult to believe.

Ok not confirmed then, sorry for missunderstanding.
Bloody amazon.

I don't care what the info on Amazon or any retailers website says, It's not a official source and that is the bottom line.

Don't forget other retailers get their info from the same place (distributors and reps). As I said, you can believe it and it has a good chance of being true but it is not confirmation.

Damn, I really thought the manufacturers description was from the manufacturers.
Duh.

It sucks, but history shows us that even supposedly "official" or "manufacturer's" should be taken with a pinch of salt :/

The weather changes in PGR4 were never too drastic. It would only go from overcast, to heavy rain, for example. Nothing like Sunshine to Snowstorm.

The best part about PGR4's implementation which I hope GT5 has is the inclusion of rain puddles which completely change how you approach a track. You can hydroplane on these, or if you are at the right speed they can help slow you down as you enter a corner. Meaning that you can brake late and catch a puddle and it will help you slow even further.

I think we can all agree- PGR4 has some of the most amazing rain effects of almost any racing game (this, from a guy who's only seen PGR4 videos and never playing the game). I think of them as a gold standard for these rain effects. Very cool stuff for the most part!

By the way... I had to visit the G4 website manually because I got sick of waiting for the HD quality links I've seen in this thread. Still, it's great news for GT5.

That same guy said the game is out November 2nd though....:boggled:

- Which is still the official release date...

That does not make him any less trustworthy (not that I'm sure, that what he is saying is completely true though...)

Dynamic weather kept PGR4 interesting because quite frankly the tracks were dull and no real driver's challenge. It was nice to dash over a bridge, the rain having stopped and the sun setting down in the far distance. Very well done, indeed.

I like that sort of eye candy, but I can't really see it fit into the PD art style, sorry.
