Rain & Snow in Gran Turismo 5 - [UPDATED] finally, officially confirmed!!!!!

If GT5 doesn't have rain I will be sorely disappointed. There is really no excuse - that on top of the fact that only 200 cars will have interior driving views?!?!?!

GT5 has undergone basically 6 years in development, over 10 years in concept/planning and this is what we get.
You posted this in one of the other threads. Once again, you display a lack of understanding: all of the cars have interior views, but two hundred of them will have ulra-realistic ones.

Well no one please come to any conclusions so you won't be dissapointed .As for Rain I think if Kaz doesn't implement it then he has a good reason to and I trust him

Theres enough in the game already... do we REALLY need more? They put in a lot of the stuff people requested and now theres people complaining requesting that they want snow and rain?

Why not stick as much as possible in there? Polyphony have hardly held back in the past, so why start now? When news first broke of GT4's photo mode, people thought it was insane, yet it proved to be incredibly popular.

Dynamic weather as heavy snow + thick fog ( during night or day ) on the Monte Carlo & a Lancia Delta S4 or mk 1 Escort rally car erm YES PLEEEEEASE.No TCS, ABS & stability control of any kind needn't be default on cars without these ( e.g. mk 1 Escort ).If cars have crossply tyres as stock they should be fitted by default.Same goes with everything else: leaf springs, drum brakes, live axles, non lsd diffs etc.

Well because when everyone started whining for Damage, weather, day/night cycles, blah blah blah the game got delayed for A LONG TIME... if you want weather in there too we can go ahead and wait another year or two for it to come out... Kaz has to draw the line somewhere and just bring the game out already like theyre doing now... I understand where youre coming from, but imo theyve put in a lot of requested features and now I see threads popping up saying, "Well, since they put in this, then they can put in this, this and this as well... "

If youve been reading all the articles you can see that a new track in the level of detail they now have takes 2 years to make!! Yes 2 years!!! So you can imagine how much longer it will take to put in weather as well. Its Kaz afterall and if he decided to put it in it would have to be PERFECT..... and perfection takes times is basically what im trying to say.... We've waited long enough.. .let them put those other features in when GT6 comes...

Oh, I don't mean it should be added in there if there isn't already a provision for it. But if Polyphony already have a weather model in place, why not go for it if they'll make it by November?

If it was a reachable goal before the release date then I would say go for it... But I think its something thats not reachable in that time frame. I just get the feeling that there's people out there that dont know when enough is enough... I'm not having a dig at you in particular, it just seems to be the trend at the moment...

Another thing to consider is that if they were to add weather the physics engine would have to be adjusted as well. Its nice to have pretty snow and rain but they will have to configure the handling of all the cars to react to the different weather conditions. This could take 3 years more! NO way. I'll live without the weather.

It would be amazing if technically you could do rain and maintain the graphics fidelity, GT5 seems to live for that particular aspect, so I am not expecting KY would pare back the graphics to get lots of rain effects etc..

Although I would say that I'd prefer Rain to 'night driving'.. but you can't have everything.. :)

As for physics, rain/snow affect the surface grip mainly, although there are some complexities about aqua-planing and heating effects from spinning wheels, but it should be relatively minor to do this with a good physics system.

But you're assuming that, as of right now, there is no weather in the game at all. Where have Polyphony said that they have as yet not included weather effects?

They revealed the transition from day to night at E3. Maybe they'll reveal weather at the GamesCon. If the real time can be synced to a track as revealed at E3 now then why can't the real weather by synced to the track? Doesn't the weather reports in GT5P at least hint at that as a feature?

Thats a good point.. it could be already in the game... in that case, the more features the merrier... BUT if its not in there and not reachable in this time frame then I wouldnt mind if its not there and they'll probably implement it in the next iteration of GT...

I hope you are right. This issue is still confusing and everyone is camped out on either side of it with what they "think" Kaz means by his responses to that question.

Well its still confuzzzling, because, looking like "the real deal" and looking "exactly like" are synonymous...

👍 +1

Amen brother^ Even if the snow looked cartoony ill take it.

If Toon Link from "Wind Waker" appeared and threw down toon-shaded snow from a bag I would be thrilled! That would at least be better than nothing. :sly:

Agreed 200%. 👍

I agree, I hope so and I think so. :sly:

Incidentally, Kaz stated in his Honda twitter chat that weather might be in after all: "Regarding weather effects…rain, etc… Maybe." 👍👍👍👍💡:sly:

Did I see this correctly or what?!? http://wot.motortrend.com/6658967/technology/e3-2010-gran-turismo-5-creator-kazunori-yamauchi-reveals-more-game-details/index.html

-- Photo Mode --
- 2 Modes: Race Photo and Photo Travel

- Race -
- Take photos of cars racing

- Photo Travel -
- Situate vehicles at prescribed locations
- E3 demo includes: Kyoto, Japan; Italian countryside; Red Bull Hangar 7

- Full replication of real world wind, weather, and sounds
- Allows for Full Manual and AUTO mode usage, just as with professional DSLR cameras
- White Balance, focal length, shutter speed, F stop, etc.

If they have a dynamic weather system in place for the photo mode - isn't it reasonable to think that dynamic weather will be included in all the racing modes? 💡

Add that to Kazunori Yamauchi's comment on the Honda Twitter chat about weather - where he answered "Regarding weather effects…rain, etc… Maybe."

Maybe better be yes Yamauchi!!!!! :sly:

Look at what Codemasters have done with weather effects for F1 2010.

Nevermind the puddles, I think the rain on the T-cam is actually insanely realistic!

It's out September 24th in Europe and 21st in America. Yeah It's defiantly going to be keeping me going for the month leading up to GT5. Hope they get it calibrated properly with a DFGT though. Grid was unplayable with it

Grid whit the DFGT is not to bad. the gameplay was very arcady...i did't like it. thats why i love Gran turismo.

I only tried it with Grid after playing the GT5 demo for a long time and I thought it was terrible. It was so unresponsive and stiff. Anyway I won't drag this off topic any further :)

Wow. That looks amazing! I honestly think that the dynamic weather system that Kaz and his team have ready for GT5 will outshine even this outstanding effort. Kaz said it was done a long time ago - it was just a matter of if it blended with the game properly.

Let's hope it did. :sly:
