I want it and I want it now.

I agree with the slugs. I'd be fine with those as well.

Finally got my 617 tonight after my 72 hour cool down. Cant wait to shoot it!

That is tight. How reliable are they? Probably little better than semi-automatics?
I've had numerous semi-auto .22lr pistols over the years. Ruger, Browing, Smith & Wesson, etc. I've traded or sold them all. But, the 617 as been in my collection since I bought it. Never going to give it up. Accurate as hell, reliable and super fun to shoot and cheap ammo. Also, a great 'beginner' pistol that my boys first used, my wife and other's I've introduced to shooting. That says a lot.

The 617 is my first gun. I was searching for .22 revolvers and its what I kept coming to. It was a little on the pricey side, but I think it will be worth it. I shot one a few weeks ago at the range and it was a hoot! Hopefully I'll have a range report on sunday sometime.

Sorry about the mix up, I was asking Solid Lifters. After what he had to say about the pistol, looks like you made a great purchase. I'm jealous! 👍
I started with a .44 Mag and a .45
First handgun I shot was a .45ACP, and it did startle me a bit. First handgun I bought was a 9mm though, and I think it was an excellent caliber to learn on. I have a Ruger SR22(.22LR), but it feels like a toy!

I would imagine  Never shot a .22LR pistol before.
My friend's Ruger Mk 1 with a bull barrel on the other hand felt solid. I bet they shoot nice.

I'm happy with my SR22 though. I did want something that would fit in a pocket(just in case I need to rob a bank or something like that).

Experienced shooters suggested me to start with a .22. I started with 8x57 mauser. :P

That is quite comical.

Honestly, I think a beginner should shot something that has some kind of recoil so they aren't surprised and kind of know what to expect with a gun in general. My grandma (grandfather has an arsenal) won't shoot anything bigger than a .22 because of that.

In my opinion a newb shooter should start with whatever the hell he wants because first end foremost shooting should be fun, and the only way to have fun is shooting a gun you're really interested in. Thats why I started with the 8x57 and I never regretted it.
I'm not sure if I would have stayed interested in target shooting if I had started with a .22 instead of a rifle I was really interested in.
(There is nothing wrong with the .22, I'm just not interested in that round. )

First firearm was a .44 RemMag Marlin Rifle.

The .44 out of a long gun packs quite a punch, with top-end loads my Lever Action in .44 kicked almost as hard as a .308 out of a heavy rifle. 👍

I think it shot my hand loaded 240's @ 1750 or so, with very minor primer cratering.

You could do it that way too, but I mean if you are shooting someone else's because you are unsure and haven't bought one yet.

The very first gun that I owned was a .22LR and a BB Gun (.22 first), but the first pistols I shot were those.

Anyways...obviously poorly shopped but still funny.

First gun I ever bought, it's somewhere in this thread........ it's that recent(still probably over 8 years ago or so). It was Remington 597 .22LR rifle, and I knew nothing about civilian firearms, or I'd also have bought the Ruger 10/22. Early 597 came with faulty mags, and mine was no exception. At the time, I was not impressed with every third round causing a jam, or the loose cocking lever, but it hasn't had any problems since getting new magazines for it, so I am happy with it today.

Even before I got my own rifle, I used to shooting with my friends, but had no idea a foreign national could own a gun in this country. Had I known, I'd have gotten into the hobby a bit earlier.

I looked around for ammunition a bit today as I plan on hitting the range soon. At least in two chains I buy from, stock has not at all improved! Maybe they are all going to OKC(Brett!). :D
I gotta get my AR15 lower before these brilliant laws in Cali kick in next yr :boggled:
How do these states get away with this crap.

I have not looking to buy ammo lately. I have a decent stock of 9mm saved up and .22LR is still tough to find. I also have not been to the range in quite some time.

Hearing protection...... I forgot how tricky the fit can be. I received one of these from Amazon today. While the quality seem decent, I generally find these folding type muffs to be bit clumsy & uncomfortable. My Husqvarna's fixed, and combined with pair of larger cups, they are super easy to get them on, and they are also super comfortable.

These new folding electronic pair, while it has its obvious advantages, I actually have to put effort in to make it fit my head(and dumbo ears). I reserve my final judgement until I actually test it out at the range though.

P.S. Whatever happened to @Nicksfix? I thought maybe he took off on a Christmas break or something, but he's been gone for weeks!
