Can any of you guys recommend any tactical stocks with a pistol grip for the Mossberg 500? I was looking at the BLACKHAWK! Specops Gen II Recoil Reducing stock, but I'm wondering if you guys know of ant better choices.

That's what I got for my Remington 870, and I absolutely love it. 12-Gauge's so much fun when it doesn't beat you up. I'm a wimp. :P

I don't shoot it a whole lot, so I'm sorry, but I can't attest for its reliability. I shopped around, and I think I paid around $80 for it, maybe a tad higher. For the price, it's very good quality IMO. I'll dig up a picture of it....

*Edit: I forgot, I have Hogue pistol grip sleeve thing on there.

Walmart still got those hundred-pack Federal .45ACP for $29.99, so I got that, too. Dirt. Cheap.
Sorry did you just say you went to your local supermarket and bought 100 rounds for essentially £18-19 and i can't even own an airsoft gun without a permit because of the area i'm in! My god i was born in the wrong country:grumpy:

I finally placed couple of orders (mostly)for my rifle. One PMAG, one DPMS mag(same as stock?), short Magpul Picatinny rail, .308 snapcap/dummy rounds, Magpul "Plus" rubberized grip, and Kimber 1911 recoil spring kit.

I'll start researching the scopes soon, but I'm leaning towards Leupold, as I hear that they have lifetime warranty, and they are local.

If it makes you feel any better, Walmart will check your photo I.D. for handgun rounds. :P

Seriously though, I feel your pain, brother. I moved from Japan to U.S. in 1987, and I was a airsoft nut as a kid. I will never forget the first time I visited a outdoors shop here in the States. Guns, guns, guns, guns. Me and my brother were both making faces like these:   :embarrassed: Repeatedly. Never saw guns that up-close before, nor so frigging many!

As someone who loved guns growing up, I feel so lucky to live in the States, who even let a foreigner like me own a handgun, shotgun, even a AR rifle. I can't believe I used to fantasize about airsoft M16 as a kid.

Edit:

Good news! Looks like my local Walmart stores finally got the cheapest name-brand .308 in stock. It's by Federal, and I think they go for $17 a box, which is just $1.50 to $2.50 cheaper than other low-end name-brand .308. I'll probably pick up couple boxes!

One word of advice, keep the brass, even if you don't reload (yet) its the most expensive part of a cartridge and it can be re-used several times. (Its easy to forget when you're shooting a semi auto)

When I started shooting I went through thousands of factory rounds and kept the brass, now years later I have started reloading and I have a 25lbs heavy bag of match grade empty .308 brass and several other different caliber bags-o-brass ready to reload.
Thats worth a couple of grands. :dopey:

Don't throw away your brass, pick it up and store it in an airtight plastic bag with those little silicium bags to keep it dry. 👍

Well, so far here are the different ammo I've stocked up:

Remington Core-Lokt 150 grain - 1 box

Winchester 180 grain - 1 box

Federal Power-Shok 150 grain - 2 boxes

TulAmmo 150 grain - ................................. 10 boxes. I let you down, Michael. :P

And of course, Russian stuff I think has steel case, but like I said, it was $8.97 a box! I couldn't say no to that. I would have bought more, but I wanted to shoot them first, make sure the mess they make isn't totally out of control, or cause any issue with my rifle. You never know.

So far, with a .45ACP, 9mm, I haven't bothered saving any brass. 1) I'm lazy. 2) I appreciate my local range so much, I am totally OK with them putting the brass to good use. All brass goes to recycling bucket at the range, and they either keep them, or sell them from what I understand. Recently though, seems like everybody's telling me to save the brass!

Obviously, I'll never accumulate enough brass to come close to couple of grand(that's more than my rifle's worth!), but we'll see how it goes. :D

FINALLY, I have everything to go along with the rifle.

Sorry for the crap picture, but this is what the rifle looks like with the flip-up backup sight + front vertical grip:

IMG_1176.jpg

I also have different mags on order, short picatinny rail for the hand guard + rubberized surface pistol grip. Now I just need to find a scope.

i've fired a couple rounds in old colt SAA peacemakers ( what a beautiful gun!)
iheld some colt dragoons,
fired a glock 21, and an minimi.
and ofcourse an Mauser karbinder 98kurtz.

i only own an .22 gun, ( yes even that is illigal) in the netherlands, wish i could buy some more. but stupid rules !

Looks great. Scope is very much needed. Happy shooting. 👍
Thank you! Man, looking up scopes are pain. Different style, quality, and prices are high, so you really have to be careful.

Do you guys buy scopes online, or buy only ones you've checked out in person? My take is that if it's reputable make, if all the numbers & description fit what I need, and is at least around couple hundred bucks, it should go OK?

That sucks, but .22's pretty cool. I guess you'll have hard time finding ammo over there though. Here in the U.S., it's walking into a sporting goods store, and it's about $20. :dopey:

What kind of .22 do you own?

i know its easy in US aha, ( well for now, ****ers like romney and obama want to disarm the people but whatever..)
and just a ruger 10/22 . i get my bullets in germany and belgum .

Well, 10/22 is the most highly regarded everyday .22 in our area. 👍 I have a Remington 597, and I get a smack talk just about anytime .22 rifles become the topic of our conversation.
When I turn 18 I want to get an AR-15, and maybe a MP5 one day.
MP5's most likely a 9mm? AR, I assume you are talking about the .223?

I'm not too crazy about 9mm, unless as a handgun caliber. .223's nice, but I hear that 6.8mm is the new thing? Someone who was considering a 6.8mm AR told me that it is like a improved version of the .270 Winchester, which would be badass. Of course, .223 is EVERYWHERE, and I've yet to notice any boxes of 6.8mm yet in any every day stores, so ammo price & availability would be a big factor to me.

Before I bought my AR, I was leaning towards a bolt-action rifle. Bolt-action ballistics are far superior to most assault rifles', rifles are more reliable, cheaper, etc.

But when that Batman shooting thing took place, then was followed by other high caliber public shootings, we started hearing whispers about assault weapon ban from friends, in the media, and that made me focus back on AR-15's, AK-47, etc.

Finally, I ended up with a AR, but chambered in .308, which is still AR, but with a power & range that is equal to, or approach near that of standard bolt-action. Accuracy definitely suffers when shooting out of a AR, but I'm not a experienced shooter anyway. And now I don't have to sweat about another possible assault weapon ban in the future. :D

I bought em all online and never regretted it, just stick to quality stuff you can't go wrong with like Leupold, IOR, Nightforce, Zeiss and my personal favorite, Meopta. All quality stuff with 30 year or lifetime warranty.

Just be careful when ordering scope mounts online, measure the distance between the scope and rail very carefully and be aware that there are two scope diameters, one inch and 30mm. Nothing sucks more than a scope that juuuust touches the rail or is too fat for the scope rings.
If I were you I'd go to a gun store for scope mounts so you can try them out.

MP5 comes in both. I think 9mm is cheaper and more common.
Ah, OK. I'd go with a AR then, if I were you. Plenty of parts & accessory availability. Not to mention the selection to choose from. Standard AR is EVERYWHERE, but I've never even seen a .223 MP5!

I actually didn't know that there were just two ring sizes, which is good news. Thanks for the heads up on the fitment stuff. 👍 I think I have a secret weapon for possible help with the scope ring height. When Bushmaster shipped me the wrong packet, one thing that I did get out of this ordeal was a free pair of scope risers that were part of the wrong kit I received. So, if I end up needing little more clearance height-wise, I got that one covered. :dopey:

Well, there ARE more ring diameter sizes, but they are very uncommon and usually only a few very exclusive scopes in the 2000+ bucks area have them. I think there are 32, 34 and 35 mm scopes, but standard is pretty much 25.4 and 30mm, the latter is more common now.

Got it. 👍 Ideally, I'm hoping to find a decent one for couple hundred bucks. We'll see how it goes!
MP5 goes for about 500$, and AR15 depends on the version, their is so many.
Most AR's go for about 1,000$ I've seen. Surprising, I'd think MP5's would cost more due to import.
Seriously? That is quite a price difference. You can get ARs for cheaper than that, but yeah, quality stuff will reach just over $1,000 from what I've seen. If I was looking to buy an assault rifle for $500, it would be AK or Saiga. AK-rounds are badass, and still somewhat affordable, if you buy the Russian stuff. I like AKs a lot. A lot of bang for your buck there.

Real MP5's will cost upwards of $15,000.

A .22 look-a-like with a fake can to mask the 16" barrel will cost you $500.

A 9mm clone not made my H&K will cost anywhere from $1200 for a low quality Turkish one to $5000 for a higher quality clone. You will also need to get the firearm registered as an SBR (Short Barrel Rifle) for $200 to the ATF and several months of waiting and paperwork.

H&K does not sell any civilian version of the MP5.

I wouldn't pay $1000 or more for an aging gun made of stamped metal, but maybe that's just me.

That's why those .22LR ones have the long-ass silencers on them. :ouch: I've always wondered about that!

I wanted to go shooting this weekend now that I got the rifle complete, but today, I was bit under the weather, and tomorrow, I got celebration of life thing for someone at work who was very special to us. It sucks, because it generally seems like it's always the good ones who passes away, or become gravely ill. This guy was just the best. Killed by a fifteen-year-old learner permit driver, while he was on his Harley. :banghead:

That explains it then. Well 500$ for a replica doesn't seem to bad; I don't have 10,000$+ to waste on a gun haha. Also, anyone know about where to get an M14?

For whatever reason, I have a hankerin to get me a big handgun. A revolver. Don't ask why, I just do.
Now, I ask you kind fellows here, what should I be looking for? Price does indeed matter and I'm not going to be spending a small fortune on one. I may even get it from my local pawn shop with whom I've done years of business and know and trust them to do right by me.
I've looked at the S&W 500, but that's just too darn big.
A 357?
A 44 Mag?
What brand?

Pretend I know nothing about them, and steer me in the right direction please. (You won't be far off by pretending that either! lol)

I've wanted a big handgun too, but they are kind of useless if you want to "carry"(concealed carry) it, someday.

My big gun search, and they may not be huge, but they are full-size, came to 1911, Ruger GP100, or S&W revolver. 1911 is a .45ACP, Ruger & S&W I'd have picked would have been .357 magnum. .357 is considered one of the best handgun caliber out there, and you can also shoot a .38 out of it(.38 ammo is cheaper).

I ended up finding a trade for Kimber Custom Target II(1911, 45ACP). I'm happy with it. If you want a revolver, and if you are looking for quality + low price, I think it's the Ruger GP100 you want. .357 is the caliber to beat. Price I think is just over $500, new. You can shoot .38 Special to shoot cheaper(for fun, practice).

I know Taurus have a lot of cool looking revolvers for cheap, but I know just one guy who had one, and he says he'll never buy another Taurus again. They supposedly have lifetime warranty though? If that's true, that's something.

I like the looks of S&W, so that would be my first choice, but I still think the Ruger makes too much sense. S&W I'd have settled for cost hundreds more than the Ruger(but cooler :P).

The gun I want next is a carry gun, and my top pick currently is a Glock 36. As everything else, I want to keep my ammunition uniformed(.45), and this slim & small Glock is a 6+1.

Taurus instantly comes to mind when someone says price is a factor, especially on a hefty revolver caliber like .44 Mag or .357. Though they're hit or miss with reliability because of that cheaper price point. You're probably better off saving up a bit more and going for a more reputable brand shall we say, like Ruger or S&W.

Quackjack: Do you have any guns at all or access to some? You mention wanting things like an AR/MP5/M14 and from what I gather you're still under 18. Please don't be one of those pathetic Call of Duty kids who thinks it'll be badass owning some sort of military style weapon. Gives people who are legitimately into guns a bad name. Start with something basic like a handgun or sporting rifle and learn the ins and outs of guns and gun safety. It might be in the Bill of Rights, but owning a gun is a privilege. It comes with a lot of responsibility. The short of it: don't be a tool.
If that's not how you are, all the better. You're just coming off as an "I want an AR because it'll make me cool" type.

:odd:

AR looking cool, and the gun being in Call of Duty definitely influenced my purchase. If I could afford it, I'd have bought a SCAR or ACR, probably.

I agree with you QJ, that Icarus character is a jerk(pronounce it like Peter from Family Guy). You used to be my call of duty brother! What's happened to you Forza!!!! Jerk!(Peter)

Good luck man. 👍 And looking around for gun's super fun anyways. If you can afford the time, your local gun show would be a good idea. You can check out 100 revolvers on one trip, and prices are usually low, too.
