top level upper (the part that really counts).

Good to know(I guess kinda obvious). đź‘Ť

M&P I ran into some forum discussions talking about problems with them, but I guess that's hardly scientific. I think I read that DPMS & Bushmaster is owned by the same company(I think along with Remington?). I think my AR-10 is DPMS design, which doesn't excite me very much, but you get what you paid for.

DPMS/Bushy AR10's and DPMS AR15's share no major components (if any). Although all three are owned by the same company, large differences persist. I'd say that your .308 is superior to the DPMS model and far superior to the DPMS AR15 I was speaking of.

I thought I read somewhere that it was a DPMS? I'll try to find it.

Edit: I couldn't find nothin'. :P

Figures. I'd prefer a LaRue Tactical or a Noveske. Good luck to me trying to find one that's a reasonable price. Don't think that's going to happen anytime soon.

Don't take my word for it on the M&P, I also thought my Bushmaster was a DPMS, but I can't find any page suggesting that. :P

There are some highly regarded AR builders, but yeah, they are not cheap. I think I did see Daniel Defense for $1200-ish? Colt at Walmart isn't bad either, and like Z-Man said, you can find them cheaper online?

Yep, Larue, Knight's Armco, and Noveske are some of the best out there. They charge for it too. Bravo Company makes some extremely good rifles for a good price. The rifle can be made however you want it. You just need to decide what's worth the price ;)

Why is it that LMT (Lewis Machine & Tool) always seems to be forgotten about? Fantastic products IMO and the craftsmanship on the monolithic rail is jaw dropping.

Any Black Friday interest in your local area, guys?

I found a SR22 in the ad for $299. I want to do it, but while I'm a semi-veteran Black Friday shopper, I have no idea of the situation with this particular sportsman shop. It's a medium to somewhat larger store, and I think I foresee about 20, 30 groups in the line. I might not do it, just to save $30. We'll see.

Definitely a good point. Their .308 stuff is awesome.

My bolt carrier group is LMT. Working like it should.

Just saw the Taurus PT92 in a black Friday ad for 329$. Should I pull the trigger (pun intended) and buy it?
That's a 9mm, right? Personally, I wouldn't. If I wanted a affordable 9 on Black Friday, locally, I've been seeing the XD 9mm & .40S&W for under $400, I'd consider that. I know I'd rather buy a used Glock for $400+ though.

Me, I might go for the Ruger SR22. If they still have it for $299.99, tomorrow morning. I really want a .22 handgun, and while $300 is nothing special, I really don't see these guns getting any cheaper.

Depends on a few factors. What's you shooting experience with handguns? What size hands do you have? Is this compact carry or just a home defense pistol? Depending on these factors, 9mm might not be the best choice.

IMO 9mm is good for defense with modern defensive ammunition. Taurus has a history of poor customer service. They've recently vowed to improve this.

A good strategy is to find a gun that fits your needs (and hands) well, then pick the caliber based on what works best for that platform.

In other words, if you want a full-size Glock, get a 17. If you want a 1911, get it in .45.

Yeah, although I might never own a 9mm again, I do think it's a very practical & effective round. And as Z-Man noted, when I had the Glock 17, I had Remington Golden-whatever(saber?) hollow points for defense. 9mm also was a excellent starter round for me. It's cheaper than most popular center fire calibers, and has mild recoil.

Well guys, I did it. Black Friday, I was the third guy arriving at the gun counter at this local sports shop. First two rushing to the counter ended up asking for the LC9 w/laser. Good gun, except I guess they misadvertised, and it had cheaper laser on it. Too bad for them. :P

I got the SR22 for $299 + $10 background in a few minutes, I have to go back to the store at 8, when the State Police office open. Also bought couple of .22LR bricks for $14-something. Might buy more, also .308 PMAGs, if they have it. :)

Off to shoot some of my friends guns today since he's going into the marines next year and with winter looming ..

Hopfully i'll post a few pics of his small arsenal :sly: later tonight .

That would be cool. đź‘Ť This thread needs more pics.

Tip for you guys today: Do not DO NOT BUY A GUN ON BLACK FRIDAY!!!!

My background check took 3 hours just to reach the front of the line(on the State Police computer). And once I got there, since I'm not a citizen, they said that there is no way they'll get my background check done today(generally takes longer). They always say this, then they always get it done that day, just bit later. This time though, I believe them. Hopefully, I'll get a call by tomorrow. :D

P.S. This place also had the .22LR for $14.97, so I picked up a couple more.

No go the Dahn range was closed for hunting of all things:banghead:

Its a free outdoor range and a wasted 40min drive :ouch:

Maybe next week if the weathers ok.

Why not? It sure the hell beats setting up a tent in hopes you can get a $9.99 toaster or a grossly obsolete laptop for $249.

And yes, NCIS got hammered today. Sources say (don't ask) that the system set a new record today and, at times, was getting hit with almost 1k requests per minute. God bless America!

Very good time to own a gun store. Actually, the last 4 years have been for obvious reasons. Just to see how crazy things would get, I stopped by my local gun shop the day after the election. I saw at least a 1/2 dozen black rifles sold in less than 30min. It was a feeding frenzy. The sales guy smirked and asked if I thought the previously full, now 1/2 empty, rack of AR's had anything to do with who was elected. Obama, love him or hate him, is the greatest gun salesman the world has ever seen.

And good luck trying to get quality 5.56 on the cheap. Then again, Lake City stuff that's packed in an ammo can usually flies off the shelf anyway. I picked up 2 cans a month or so ago; figured I could wait for pay day to get another can or 2 as they had 50-60 more in stock. Nope...all gone. I think I went to that store on a Wednesday and back that Saturday after I got my paycheck. Sold out. Amazing...should have opened a dept. credit card and went hog wild. That stuff was cheaper than anywhere on the 'net.

Did you not read the rest of that post?

I paid for the gun at 6am, went back at 8am for the background check. When I got to the gun counter, I saw a crowd of people & overheard "270". "Ah, .270 Winchester" I thought. They were talking about how the waiting list on the State Police computer came down to 270 more people in front of the "first" customer at this store.

Don't be cheap. In my case, I only saved $30. We waited for hours, and could not leave the store due to regulations. :(

I got my gun today. Finally. This store has very thorough policies that requires to you signing literally like eight signatures. Pain in the a........

Anywho, here it is:

According to the website & a review I think by nutnfancy(youtube), it's not very picky, when it comes to ammo. $370 for the gun, background check, then 2,000+ ammo. Gotta love it. :D

Gun comes with a soft case, larger grip, two magazine(w/2 replacement finger grip extensions) and a lock.

Thank you! :) I'm not gonna lie, after selecting a .308 caliber for the rifle, then .45ACP as the handgun caliber, stocking up ammunition started to really add up.

With a .22 pistol, this is the first time I can share ammunition between two firearms I own(other being Remington 597), which is yet another advantage. I'm very excited! :D

Edit: Awww, snap. I just noticed the statement on the Ruger box: "ARMS MAKERS FOR RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS" Let's keep a6m5's nationality on a down-low from Ruger.

Oh, about the AK..... it is amazing. Blank barrel. First time I ever heard of it. If I ever build something like that, I'd let my friends fire it first. :P

That shovel AK is awesome. Up next, hammer Makarov.

Congrats on the Ruger, a6. .22 handguns are great practice instruments for a difficult tool.

I have a first-world gun owner problem. My barrel is too good for my wallet. The Noveske is capable of tack driving accuracy, but the M855 and Wolf rounds that I feed it are not.

The round that the barrel is supposed to like, Mk262 Mod1, goes for about $1 each in bulk! That's four times as much as Wolf! :grumpy:

First time? I noticed you ejected a live round (no worries). :)

I'm not sure if your friend told you this, but keep your hands higher on the gun. The gun wants to flip upwards on recoil, try to put as much of your palms on the gun as hand and as grippy as they go.

Here..

Don't take it personally. Almost everyone starts out shooting like crap, especially if the only experience they have with firearms is what they see in movies.

I've gotten a lot better, but I'm sure I still make some mistakes too!

I had a show & tell of my SR22 at work today, and my coworker brought in his old Ruger .22(Mark something, I think?). I thought mine had a really beefy barrell, but his was at least twice as thick, and much longer(no jokes plz lol). The thing weighed as much as my 1911, and I could only imagine how effortless it will shoot .22LR!

Then this other kid came in to check out my SR22, and we talked guns for a bit. I asked him what kind of handgun he had, and he's got bunch of them + something like ten long guns. He's just a young kid!
POV Video of me shooting my friends' Walther P99
Very cool. Sure beats pictures! đź‘Ť

Thank you very much, and go buy that $500 Million lottery ticket tonight. I didn't buy one, but did pay into a pool at work. :D
