Real Guns

The first time I went shooting I went with a former co-worker and shot a variety of guns. I put about 400 rounds downrange and loaded nearly all of the bullets without a loader. One of the guns I shot was a revolver, so that were easy enough to load. By the time I finished, my thumbs were sore.

Are they absolute 🤬 to load? My Glock, I honestly thought the bullets might explode, before I had full 17 rounds in it.:

So it's not just me.. my G19 works fine with the first 14 rounds, but that 15th just doesn't want to go, even (especially) with the Uplula loader. There just isn't enough slack in the spring to compress it further than the 15th round, even by only a millimeter (which is about all I need to get it in there). I end up using the "speed loader" they included with the gun to push the rounds down to squeeze #15 in there. Trying to load it by hand with that kind of compression is an exercise in frustration.. lol. Oh, I'll get it eventually, but I won't enjoy it.

Still love that gun.. threw another box of ammo through it on Sunday, shoots like a dream.

To be honest, I did think about it, but I decided against it. I already have this one, and I'm not really into .22 anyway. If I was going to buy another, it would more likely be Ruger 10-22(for the vast selection of accessories), a bolt-action, or one of those "Survivor" rifles.

So yeah, after lubing the Remington 597, I'm scared that I might have 🤬 up the rifle while putting it back together.

I didn't realize the gun was cocked, and while putting the trigger assembly back into the housing part of the upper assembly(?), a devil got in me, and made me pull the trigger. It did a spin, with my trigger finger inside the trigger guard, freaked me out.

They put back together OK, so I don't know if it hurt anything. I'm not supposed to dry-fire this thing, so it can't be a good thing. We went to the range today, but decided against shooting .22, so I didn't get to test it out. Hopefully, next weekend, I get to see if everything's OK.

I hate packing, because I always forget something. Today, I forgot the SD card for the camera(I took like 4, 5 pics on internal memory), also the screw driver to adjust the rear sights, which had been the plan for I don't know how long!

On the bright side, accuracy is improving(paper target in the pic is not mine lol). I just have to aim higher until the rear sight is corrected. The civilian Beretta thing in the pic with my Kimber is my buddys'(92-something?). Trigger squeeze very different on it, but after firing off a handful, I was very accurate with it. Seems to be a good gun.

P.S. My gun had one failure to feed today.

The two magazines I ordered arrived today. After opening the package, I decided to go to Academy to buy some ammunition. Well, another range trip is in order in the very near future.

I did a quick google, and I'm pretty sure it is 92FS. Sweet looking gun. Accurate, reliable, but the trigger pull did have weird squishy feel to it. Trigger travel felt long, but it could be that I've gotten accustomed to the trigger on my 1911, which has very short travel.

I know people who sometimes carry without permit. I'd never do it though. Being foreign national, they'd come get me with agents from Homeland Security!

I have been considering buying a 1000 rounds from a place somewhat local, about an hour or hour and a half away, for just over $200 before shipping. I have bought all but about 250 rounds that I have fired from Academy. Walmart does not keep much in stock and getting someone to help you is a pain. The 250 rounds I bought from Walmart, I had to stand around for a while just waiting for service. At Academy, I walk up to an aisle and pick what I want without having to have someone get it.

I've found some deals online, but it's always the shipping that kills the deal. Remington 9mm, you can often find for $10 a box if you wait for the sale. If I wanted 1,000 rounds, that's what I'd do. $200, no shipping.

Getting help at Walmart is not bad doing the day. I usually grab the nearest employee, and they call in somebody with the ammo case key for me. My problem is that, because every Walmart is pretty far, I go there in the evenings. Getting help at Walmart at night, now, that, can be a pain. They also have to carry it out for you to the cashier, which only adds to the hassle.

For my .45ACP, I'm considering Tulammo for target practice. Last I checked, they were $15 a box. And while they seemed to be dirtier, I routinely clean & lube my handgun, and also right after firing it. Sole exception was yesterday, because I'm going shooting again next weekend.

*edit - Went to Walmart today. They now carry value pack Federal .45ACP for $29.99(a hundred rounds).

Save your brass! You'll never know if you ever plan to reload. It's saves you a lot of money. If not, reloaders love 'once fired' brass.

Most rangers sell realoading ammunition. The shell casings they gather are used for that purpose. Some ranges that don't sell reloaded ammunition sell the brass to reloaders like myself.

As the range gets busier it has become necessary for us to remind our guests of our empty cartridge case collection policy.

CCGC is very supportive of those who reload and shoot their own ammunition. To that end we want to ensure that those who reload ammunition for their own personal use are able to recover as many of their own spent cartridge cases as possible!

We very much appreciate those who ask if we allow the general collection of empty cartridge cases left by others or if we sell ones that we collect to others at the range. Our recycling program precludes both of those activities.

While we support your collecting your own cartridge cases, we do not allow people to rummage through our buckets or to pick up quantities of cartridge cases shot by others.

Empty cartridge cases left at the range by a shooter becomes the property of the range. This is the same as when someone places their weekly garbage on the curb for general pick-up; the moment the materials are placed on the curb, they become the property of company picking them up.

Like other ranges, CCGC derives revenue by selling left over cartridge cases to a variety of sources. This revenue helps fund range improvements and keep range fees as low as possible. When someone takes cartridge cases left by others they are denying the range that revenue which directly impacts our ability to enhance range operations. English Pit

I love these guys. And I hate my local ranges that requires you to have membership and/or buy their ammo. I heard about this middle of nowhere range in Idaho today? $20 a year(only fee), 24 hour access.

I've fired two guns down a range when I did a short stint in a cadet force, a .22 rifle of some sort (they didn't say what it was) and the L98A1 cadet rifle I think.

It was fun, and apparently I'm also pretty damn accurate.

Our shooting outing got cancelled for this weekend(enormous surprise!), so we are supposedly moving it back a week to the labor day weekend. We'll see how it goes, and maybe I can take more pictures.

Not entirely off-topic: On my drive home today from work, they were talking about another shooting, but this time, at the cashier of our local department store. I think they may have said the gunman shot couple of people, before another couple of guys subdued him. Scary stuff. Same chain that I'm going tonight to pick up a few things.

*news says the shooter was caught trying to peek victim's PIN number at the cashier. When confronted, altercation ensued, followed by the gunman shooting the victim in the leg.

I forgot about those. I started playing CoD4 again for bit(was retired after MW2), virtual guns are nice.... and they don't misfire with the exception of the M16 glitch.

I don't own any... but the one my Dad has is an expensive one (about £1000 I think), good brand. Has a proper scope, and had a choice of barrel I think (long or short depending on what you want to use it for). No idea where it is now though... it's padlocked in a case some where hidden away.

This is probably near the limit of what we can buy in this country. It's probably a pea shooter in comparison to the guns you can buy.

Is it limited power? or does he have a fire arms certificate for it? I'd be amazed if he dropped a thousand pound on an air rifle which was limited! its be cheaper to join a range and get a proper .22.

It's limited I think. The license was mentioned but he never pursued getting one. Thinking about it I think it was the best you could buy before requiring a license, and the version he bought was built so you didn't need one.
