I avoid AWD at every costs. I dont feel they are as competitive, and I just cant seem to tune those correctly. I convert all my AWD cars to RWD.

So I agree that there is a PI "penalty" for AWD, but I still have some really competitive and fun AWD tunes (V8 22B and Syclone). For me the ticket is to take advantage of the great launch and clear the field a bit by T1, so I don't get wrapped up in the inevitable melee. If there are very skilled RWD drivers in the pack, though, they will hunt me down by the end, but I usually have a speed advantage and if I hit my apexes they have a tough time getting past.

Oh, yes, and the Cossie!!

Ever since I got BF4 a month ago I haven't played much of Forza 5. Started playing again this weekend and got hooked on Rivals and hot lapping. I even shared an A-class FD Rx7 tune that I was very happy with, so far it's been beating all my old lap times.

I love how you can make almost anything in A-class competitive. It has a broad range of cars you can modify from all the classes lower than it. S class narrows that list down alot.

Yes it's one of the things I love in this series. With the engine swaps you can make any small or medium car a car that can compete with higher categories. Some of us like to play with smaller toys :P

I decided a couple of days ago that I had too many cars in my garage which haven't been used so starting with Abarth I'm going through all my cars, finding a tune and design, taking it for a 2-3 lap (depending on class) race on Nurburgring Nordschleife + GP and then use the 2nd or 3rd lap as a hot lap, if the tune meets my requirements then I move on to the next car.

So far I've just reached the Ariel Atom so it will be a lengthy process but it's already giving me more choice when I'm in multiplayer lobbies. The AMC Javelin has been the big surprise so far, managing to grab 90th in C class on a messy lap.

I'm doing something similar with my cars. My favorite class is A class so I'm tuning all my spare cars to that class. If they dont do well in that class I bump them down to B and repeat the process until I find a Class that I feel they fit into.

Although, I reached my extra RX7 I had laying around and went on to tune it, and as soon as I finished I just couldnt put the car away. I'm currently going through every track in A-class with it, and trying to beat all my friends records, or my previous records.. so far its been performing way better then I thought, literally shaving seconds off my previous records, and toping my friends rivals times.

Hotlapping has got to be FUN in FM5. I don't have an X1, so I'm on 4... every now and then I need to get away from the arcade and event races.. hotlapping just never gets old.. I could go on and on.. so many tunes.. so many cars... then sleep has to come crashing my little party!

Why do people slam on the brakes at the slight rightward kink on the straightaway? Rage inducing.

People as in online folks? Cos the AI has a knack of doing this at the most inappropriate spots! :banghead:

None of the turbochargers for the Sierra makes a chu chu noise. That is very disappointing.

Yeah, FM5 was a bit rushed since it was a launch title.. I'm sure FM6 is going to address some of the sound issues, and you and I both know it will only get better.

I've been doing a lot of online racing lately and I've learned two things. Many
people have trouble avoiding collisions even in a straight line.

I've come to the conclusion that's it's obviously on purpose and/or kids. I find it very difficult to find an online room that is not full of smash up derby drivers. It's the worst game for online play. But having said that, overtime, we weed them out, then the room becomes barable.

I was driving an A-class RX7 through Long Beach the other day, and I must say, the sound when your driving full throttle under the over-passes on the last straight is amazing.

^^ I bet! :D

Forza has had exceptional sound since FM2. I could go on and on. I don't own 5, and still can't get over the sounds in FM4. Sound really shapes up the experience and makes you want to play the game over and over.

Enjoy FM5.

I played the FM5 demo (yet again) today in a store.

The sounds and graphics are making a XB1 tempting.
Forza was pretty much the only reason I wanted an Xbox one originally and then we horizon 2 was announced it finally pushed me over the limit. I'm glad I did I'll also admit to getting the EA access thing so that I got battlefield and a couple of other games which worked out for me because I pay 30 bucks I got 3 games for basically $10 a piece and they're games I'd actually play as well.

I forgot to mention this. I had something amazing happen in F5 with I believe it is the SVT Cobra mustang. I don't remember the exact setup with that car but the exhaust audio is so good it actually creates a real life resonance if I am INSIDE the car and look behind me. Its in high rpms while in 3rd and 4th gear. Truly incredible. I made a couple videos of it last night but forgot to name them. I have never had an exhaust audio create a real life resonance in my surround sound. Just epic. It has ONLY happened in that specific car from the inside view while looking behind. You can see the videos in my xbox.com profile. But again, I doubt the same effect will happen on the pc.

EDIT: No I can confirm it only sounds that incredible in my surround sound. I just listened to the video on the pc and nope nowhere near close to what I experience in surround sound.

You should try out long beach 👍

Yeah long beach is amazing but this resonance audio is specifically something with the SVT Cobra. Only way I can explain it is if you have ever been in a muscle car and at some point there is a specific deep tone resonance that vibrates your skull and your eyes. That happens to me ONLY in that mustang and only if I am on the inside view looking back. Very unique and as I said its the only time this has ever happened in a game.

Oh wait there was one other game something similar like this happened. GTA5. It was a car Michael was driving in GTA5 in the campaign. Maybe even his default car. If you hit the throttle just right from a dead stop there is a very low specific resonance that I have not felt or heard in other games. That is comparable to the SVT mustang but not exactly the same. Hard to explain and cant be reproduced through the computer or through the headset.

I know the sound, ive been trying to explain it to friends, it's like the exhaust is vibrating inside the car

I know what you mean, I think the same thing happens with the old Lancer Evo. Not sure if race exhaust or stock.

I've been geeking out on this topic since you posted it, trying to figure out the science behind this sort of behavior IRL. Bear with me:

IRL, the exhaust and engine frequencies may excite one or more of the (10-15 modes between 50 and 200 Hz) vehicle cavity acoustic modes, which would cause the loud resonance you describe. I think that most modern cars are engineered to minimize this interaction, but in a muscle car or otherwise modified car, I'd say it's likely to get this resonance.

Of course I don't think this complex interaction is modeled by either Forza or GT, but it sounds like your surround sound system picked up one specific tone and resonated, much like a real car.

My post is kind of pointless, but I just have to say...

I really want the Bugatti Veyron in Forza 5 but I'm too tight to lash out on the VIP pass

Had a very odd glitch happen today while racing online. In the B class (I think) hopper and the track was Bernese Alps Club with 4 laps, the race was going normal and it was quite tight from 1st-4th and then 5-6th had their own competition, when 1st place crossed the finish line on lap 2 the end of race timer started and I was at the time 3rd which I managed to hold on to (with a comfortable lead over 4th) until the race timer ended. This was where I was told I had came 4th and my friend who was in 6th (last place during the race) had been pushed down to 7th. The event results said only one person had finished and their best lap was average, certainly not good enough to have done 4 laps in the time we'd done 2.

Theres some weird thing that can happen in MP. The lobby some how splits into two simultaneous lobbies, and you're racing each other and you can't see them. That seems to happen when your waiting for the race to start and it takes a long time to get to the race screen, half the lobby is already racing. In Multi-Class it's easier to tell, you leave the starting line and a few cars from the lower classes haven't started yet.
