Just caught that, too. Local station reporting on it. One officer injured? Chase from the White House, then gunfire near the Senate . . .

Very fast moving situation.

Any source on that one? Haven't seen that part yet.

Been repeated on many television channels - try CNN, of course, if you want blow-by-blow reporting (too fast for the Internet to keep up.)

Quite a lot more been reported - too much to type.

Edit: hard to make out the truth yet - could be some type of domestic scuffle that escalated, police got involved, etc, etc - what made it come to the surface on a regular news-day was I guess the location - White House nearby, Senate close to the fracas, and so on.

We'll probably have the proper gist of this on the evening news. Right now it's confirmed that the lockdown on the Senate was lifted - and that's about the only fact confirmed.

Oh ok at work where there is no TV nor streaming news video available.

Getting word of a driver in a car chase, possibly near the White House, driver gets out, fires a few shots, and is shot in return by Capitol Police. Supposedly, she rammed though a gate on Pennsylvania Avenue by the White House. Apparently, one officer was wounded. Hearing varying stories on whether (or how) she was killed or not.

* This is all bits and pieces of information, may not be accurate as things pan out.

BadasP - That's why I jump into GTPlanet anytime I hear something newsworthy is happening if I cannot get to the reports of on-site reporters; most often someone gives us a heads-up here - and we can pass around info, and sources, that help us piece together what's happening.

I think this was actually an isolated (non-newsworthy) incident, but because of the present tense climate in Congress at the moment, and also because the Capitol Police were involved, it kind of made things more significant than they probably really are..

Well, on the bbc they have this pic of a police car with airbags deployed, so a car chase would make sense.

Yes, it would seem so. An erratically driving woman with a child in a black Lexus refused to stop for police, and she was chased and shot at by police. She's dead now.

According to the latest reports, she was unarmed as no weapons were found on her or in her vehicle. The only shots fired were from the police. She is now dead.

I also heard the police are not in trouble for shooting her either.

So, the police who where stood next to her car looking through the windows chose not to shoot her when she was actually ramming the barriers, instead she is shot dead later because of a car chase? Seems an extreme way of immobilising a speeding car. Why not just shoot the tyres out?

I'm not surprised. If it was anyone other than a police officer, they would be in custody.

You must understand that the police in major U.S. cities are generally more aggressive and possibly a little less friendly than your average cop, especially when they justify their reasoning by making things up.
