The download for the VHR Stockcar has probably been pulled from rfactorcentral.com. Either this is an unauthorized rip of NASCAR 08, or the creator ripped the mod off of rfactorcentral.com and probably breaking down the mod into smaller elements. I'd still like a decent NASCAR Car of Tomorrow mod. And I'm not talking about the older model deal that some other group put together.

I checked rFactorcentral.com recently, and guess what? The 2002 race cars are now up for download of the Sports Car Challenge! This caught me by absolute surprise. Some of the 2002 cars include the Dallara chassis, a few Lolas, and another Cadillac Northstar LMP. Ever since someone took head of the Sports Car Challenge and tried to speed up development of the former Sports Car Challenge mod by NSCG, true sportscar racing is finally available for rFactor. No need to have the FIA GT mod to pretend you're having real sportscar racing. I'll download this new package when I get a chance.

Find out more about this mod here: < http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Sports Car Challenge (American Le Mans) >. You're free to chat about this if you've downloaded it already and tried out the new cars.

I'm here to report on the Sports Car Challenge 1.2 add-on.

--- Overview of the Sports Car Challenge 1.2 Mod ---
The addon claims to add about 58 cars to the already robust mod. New cars include some of the following: the Ferrari 360 Modena, a lower-spec BMW M3, the Ferrari 550 Maranello, the 2002 Cadillac Northstar LMP, Dome S101, the Doran Lista Dallara, and cars like that. You have to get rid of the SCC folder to install this update. You get three different SCC mod packages: SCC 2001, SCC 2002, and one mod featuring both seasons at once. I have only tested two cars.

Ferrari 360 Modena: Risi Competizione - My eyes lit up as Houston's own (as well as Texas' own) Risi Competizione is in this mod. This was an easy pick for me to make this my GT2/GT car. I'm guessing the cars seem to handle better (maybe since I race with high speed sensitivity and high TCS. After all, I'm not a really impressive driver). The 360 Modena had one nagging point- not enough horsepower. For what this car is, it's (as you British would say) sex on wheels. Performs beautifully while sounding beautiful. The in-car view is amazing as well.

Cadillac Northstar LMP (2002)
This car didn't seem to get too much life. This is one of only two Cadillacs I care about racing. It has a nice roar to it. Does this remind me of time trial racing at Alpine Ring Raceway in Forza 1? Well, I raced my offical test track: Orchard Lake's road course. The car delivers power very well. However, you have to be careful not to gun it too early when in corners. It has good power delivery and is very capable.

There are still a lot of cars I haven't used yet. By the way, remember that disaster of an LMP900 car Panoz built for the 2001 24 Hours of Le Mans and a few races of the 2001 ALMS season? It's in this mod package as well. I haven't raced with it yet. My dream would be to have a 2001 vs. 2002 matchup of cars in this only pure sportscar racing mod for rFactor. I say only pure because of the wait for the Le Mans Series mod.

Here's a question for you rFactor fans. What fantasy Forza track(s) do you think would be great to race in rFactor? Or are there any of interest?

I can tell you that some of the cars we're seeing in these Daytona are the cars that have competed in the Grand-Am Cup (nowadays called the Koni Challenge Series).

It looks like the crew behind this Sports Car Challenge is offering some new pictures. These newer cars look to be machines from a potential 2003 Season of the Sports Car Challenge. Come see some of the newer cars here: < http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Sports Car Challenge (American Le Mans) >. I'm still very glad that this mod is alive and well as interested parties are willing to make a mod relevant again after being down for so long. I'd still want to see the JGTC mod still have some life infused to it. It's pretty much dead at this point. However, with interest to get this mod back on its feet, we may just see some sort of package set up for rFactor in the mold of the JGTC. This is especially huge to me because I love Super GT.

There's still a lot of work to be done to get the Le Mans Series mod released for rFactor. We have the Sports Car Challenge now, but wait until the Le Mans Series mod is fully complete. Then, we'll REALLY have a battle as to which is better. I said in the past that the Sports Car Challenge is mostly of older cars while the Le Mans Series is a recreation of Le Mans racing machines from the 2006 season. The Sports Car Challenge remains my premiere mod for sportscar racing as of right now.

That's rare. I'm usually the late bloomer. Anyhow, I downloaded Formula Nippon 2007. The sound loop for the engine is a bit off. It still sounds great, and I'm glad the heavy steering from the FN2006 mod. Great stuff. You even have a number of different options for your Formula Nippon race car. I recently downloaded Tsukuba for rFactor. I think I pulled a 48-second run around Tsukuba in a hotlap session. These are very quick machines. Can't win an F1 race? You COULD win in an FN race. So go download the 98MB mod and get to racing!

I really like Maple Valley. Its great fun to drive and quite fast. It'd be nice if there were more dangerous turns in it tho, so not to put yourself in 4th gear for the whole track and keep the gas pedal down... but oh well.

The 2003 cars are here for the Sports Car Challenge mod! Download the 2003 add-on by visiting the mod link at: < http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=Sports Car Challenge (American Le Mans) >. I downloaded this, but haven't installed it yet. This mod includes the cars from 2003. And if I'm not mistaken (this may convince some of you to download the Sports Car Challenge mod), this mod includes the famous crocodile Audi R8 for the 2000 cars.

I'll have more to talk about when I play the add-on material.

Alright. I installed the SCC 2003 add-on package which includes a variety of cars. I HAD to take the Bentley for a ride. The Bentley EXP GT in the game sounds better than the GT4 variation (I'm sure lots of people are critical of car sounds in GT games). It is a Grand Touring Prototype, just not like the classic GTPs of the 1990s. It gets up to speed pretty well and just looks beautiful from almost any angle. I stumbled racing Orchard Lake's road course, so I went to Montreal to race the Montreal F1 circuit. I logged a hot lap of 1:39.610. You have to be careful gassing it coming out of corners. It rides quite well for the most part. Maybe my controller is taking the handling a bit out of whack. Nonetheless, the car is a joy to drive.

Great addon to a greater mod.

Hello everyone, I have a problem!

I've just downloaded the trial version of the game however when I try to open it to install, it does nothing. My OS is Windows Vista and I reckon that may be where the problem is found, however can anyone please confirm this for me or tell me any solutions? I've tried both opening it normally and as Administrator, each time failing.

Thanks!
:)

I've been thinking about something, rFactor folks. Would you download a mod based on Formula SAE cars? There are other sanctioning bodies for formula race cars made by colleges and universities (such as Formula Student), but I will go on Formula SAE to explain. The inspiration for this came when I was just browsing around on my computer with my copy of two different versions of "Live for Speed." LFS features the McGill Racing Team car totally in the mold of a Formula SAE car. It's a cleanly-styled machine from the students who helped make this car possible. I haven't raced it because I haven't paid for anything for unlocking extra stuff for Live for Speed. I had a motorsports-themed week of college football last week with Petit Le Mans on Saturday. So I was asking if you would download, or at least support the idea of a Formula SAE mod for rFactor?

I know only so much about Formula SAE. The cars aren't seriously powerful. Most of these are powered by motorcycle engines. So you'll know already that horsepower numbers won't be impressive unless they are powered by a Suzuki GSXR 1300 engine. They don't do pack racing for what I know. Most of the action is limited to autocross (I will use "autocross" and not "AutoX" to avoid confusion). The SCCA made a seperate class as to where colleges and universities can compete in Solo events. There are even some endurance races to where these cars will be tested for their endurance around a race track set off by cones. Venues can range from parking lots to actual tracks with cones around.

It would mean a lot of modeling to get the exact specifications for a number of student-made formula race cars. There would be two ways around it: (1) make as many formula cars based on a variety of schools, but only use one specific body style while everyone else has specific logos and graphics for the school they represent. Or (2), try to create as many formula cars as best as possible including every last detail of the represented cars. So one should be able to tell a Formula SAE car from Michigan apart from a Formula SAE car for Texas A&M. Another consideration would be to create autocross tracks for rFactor. I've had two different autocross tracks for Sports Car GT. One was based on a Hilton hotel course while another was a course in... I want to say Denver... which served as a finale for SCGT autocross. It had a pretty nice sunset setting. With the amount of customization and detail that can go into an rFactor track, possibilities are endless as to how to put a track together. Go-kart tracks for rFactor could make great FSAE venues since I don't believe they can take the high speeds of Monza or the endless punishment of the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

So would you be interested in seeing such a mod for rFactor if it was created? In my next post, I'll share with you my OzRacers experience after I've been fully tempted to download it.

I know I promised to talk about my OzRacers experience, but I want to go to something different.

--- John's VHR Stockcar Experience ---
So I was convinced to download the 700+ MB VHR Stockcar mod. I downloded from another site since it's been pulled from rfactorcentral.com. I took a look at this mod and noticed the amazing sounds of the cars. Trouble is, you're basically downloading soemone else's rFactor and settings from that. I tried the mod out and never got to race the other tracks I have. I just wanted to drive those CoT stock cars. It's basically a package fully devoted to NASCAR rather than an rFactor mod you can simply come back to. To tell you the truth, it wasn't as fulfilling as I would have liked it.

I don't really like mods in which you can't really go race your favorite rFactor tracks with a certain car. Take the V8 Factor deal. You have to download Bathurst bundled with V8 Supercars. What if you just wanted to race Bathurst then? Had to get the V8 package to go with it. I have nothing against the V8 Supercars at all. I love watching them race. I just still want to be able to take the cars and race a variety of other courses rather than just what's supplied to me. It's why I've loved most racing games where you can simply get a good car and race any track you want. Like the Gran Turismo series, the Forza series, the PGR series, and the like. Not a good mod if you want to do Joesville or Mills Metropark.

On a lighter note, only thing I did take from the mod was the daytime sky. I usually like a nice and sunny (or even mostly sunny) day for my races. But the skydome had a nice sunny day with clouds. And as of right now, I'm still using a few skies from one of the GTR tracks.

--- John's Oz Racers Experience ---
The scale of the cars was pretty cartoonish and not really of interest to me when I saw this. I was finally convinced to try this mod out. These may be the most fun small cars with about 200 horsepower. I tried these cars around some of my shorter tracks. They are a bit too fast for kart tracks, so I used some of my shorter courses. I even ran around the Joesville short oval with these cars. I had a tough time winning races because I would probably get punted or spin out severely. I had always dreamed of racing small-scale cars whether in real life or in a game. They don't have functional lights, but are quite fun to race. Great stuff. Only race I won with these cars was on the Chinese Grand Prix's (Jiading) super-short circuit. After unintentionally punting two guys off the track in the super-tight and twisty proportions of this course, I eventually won. I could race as many as twenty to a track in events I competed in. So not a bad mod. It's about 20 to 25 MB in size.

--- The '50s and '60s are Coming! ---
I downloaded the Gasoline Alley mod, and will download the 1955 F1 mod. Congratulations to the 1955 F1 mod for winning Hall of Fame honors on rfactorcentral.com. These should be two great old school racing mods. I'm sure both can be tough to control with aids off. Since I'm not very good at games with hardcore physics capabilities, I'll go light on this one.

That would be all from me. You take care now, ya' hear? Ahem... pardon my Texan.

Old news... rFactor version 1.255 Patch F now fully available for download. Some multiplayer races are using the 1.255 Patch. Follow the instructions as specified at this rfactorcentral.com link: < http://www.rfactorcentral.com/detail.cfm?ID=rFactor 1255 Patch >.

I'm not sure whether to install the regular patch or for the DVD. I bought rFactor on a CD with Version 1.150. I'm not sure if I need the Full Update, or the F DVD model. You all are free to help me out if you choose. I'd appreciate it.

I've played rFactor again for the first time in a while. This time, to try out the Lexus IS-F mod. As a bit of sad news, the left analog stick to my analog controller isn't working that well anymore, so I went back to my Microsoft Sidewinder Gamepad. The car sounds and performs great. Just an awesome car to use. If I could perform Gran Turismo-style modifications to this car, it would be killer. I downloaded the Lo-Res variant. Feared the Hi-Res would mean more lag than racing. It's a very cool mod.
