I got myself a new gamepad. I got a Logitech DualAction controller. It lacks force feedback or rumble features, but I'm okay with it since I don't usually use that sort of thing. Playing rFactor with this thing had me frustrated trying to make left turns (imagine this scenario in a NASCAR oval race). So I turned off the analog and just used the control pad. Actually, you can still use the analog sticks, only you still get to see the steering wheel in in-car views to not be very realistic. I'm not using my Driving Force Pro for my rFactor racing, though I do have a DFP setup in rFactor.
I had a few drives in rFactor tonight just testing out my new controller. Nothing was too special except that I raced a few tracks with the Formula Nippon 2007 mod while falling in love with the engine noise and their unreal speed. Since I've been so fascinated with Dubai lately, I've been envisioning what an update to the Dubai Autodrome would be like if one was planned for rFactor. The controversial FIA GT Championship mod had an add-on that included just about every GTR2 track converted for use in rFactor. Among those courses was Dubai. This was the Dubai in 2004. Today's Dubai course has a downtown view as well as many cranes building up the city. That Dubai Autodrome (or MotorCity) is supposedly part of the Business Park with buildings all around the course. I even recall seeing some kind of city background when I saw that video package of FIA GT racing around Dubai. To add some challenge, I did some testing around Dubai's Grand Prix course setting the time to 7:30 PM and then 10:00 PM in a later session.
To get an idea as to how Dubai looks nowadays, search "Dubai" in the Autosport gallery ( http://www.autosport.com/gallery ). Then, type in "Dubai GT" for a few more pictures. My "Emergence of Racing in the Middle East" thread in the Drifting and Other Motorsports forums showcases a little more on my attraction to the Dubai Autodrome, stating that it is a mix of a permanent road course and a true metropolitan race track. Just be interested if someone decides to recreate the Dubai Autodrome in its current state and make a download available for the Dubai Autodrome including as many track variations as possible.
