Well, another trip to the Nurburgring for the Ridox Replica Fan Club. Great organization, as always @danbojte!
I was absolutely thrilled to finally grab another win, but it didn't come easy. @Thorin Cain -- was my pass on you, during Lap #1, dirty? I saw you get all squirrely and I took the corner pretty smoothly, so I still had my foot to the floor and aimed for the inside of the kink. I know we made slight contact...I just hope it wasn't a dirty/illegal tactic. When I mentally knew I was going for it, I really thought that I would pass you before the track started to bend, but I should have known better since I was only pushing 227hp (I think?)... Anyway, I hope it was a clean move. If not, I'm very sorry.
I jumped out to a pretty sizable lead early on... I think it was already a couple of seconds by time my tires hit the Nordschleife. And then it grew and grew! Something must have happened. I'm going to have to see how my lead got all the way up to 7+ seconds! I was beyond shocked. There was a part of me that wanted to start taking it a little bit easier, lest I push too hard and end up in the sand or upside down on the side of the track. Fortunately, the smarter side of me said "There are very good drivers behind you. Your lead is not safe!"
There were a couple of sections that I did purposely go a little easier than I normally would on Lap #3, but I'm just talking about a quick lift off the gas pedal for a second or a tap of the brakes on a corner I usually just roll through with no gas. Nothing major. Anyway, by the third lap my lead was down to about 5 seconds. It should have been smooth sailing, but it wasn't. @OdeFinn & @RMan72 were putting the pressure on me. I made one mistake and went on the grass and lost half my lead. Luckily, the gap never got closer than about 2.2s, at least when I would notice the blue gap indicator...
Race #2 was tough for me. I ran Race #1 with a 20kg ballast penalty, but I was going to have to run Race #2 with an 80kg ballast just because I am so handsome!! Or maybe it's because that's what the winner of the last race has to endure. I'm sure OdeFinn can attest, he ran with 80kg extra in Race #1, that extra weight really changes how you have to drive the car. I had to brake earlier for a lot of corners because of the extra weight and I could totally feel that the car couldn't pull like it would at the base weight. Hopefully, I wasn't too big of a pain in the arse for whomever was behind me..
Sorry about that contact RMan72. When my car got all squirrely after bouncing off the wall I wasn't trying to block you, I was just trying to get my car under control and keep it moving forward. Thank you, for giving me the position back after our contact there at Ex-Muhle, I think it's called. As we got closer and closer to the conclusion of Lap #3 I just kept telling myself, "Don't give RMan 3rd Place...A podium finish will be incredible!!" So, what did I do? I allowed my rear left tire to touch a blade of grass and that got my car all sorts of discombobulated. The next thing I know, I'm sliding on a huge section of grass at Pflazgarten. The only thing I cared about at that point was "Do not hit RMan. Let him overtake you." And that's exactly what happened. RMan took 3rd place and I fell into 4th. Not for long, however, as RMan stumbled over a similar blade of grass at Galgenkopf!! This allowed me to slip back into 3rd place which I held onto for the remainder of Lap 3.
Fantastic driving by everyone. I think this rolling start was a good idea, at least for this particular race, danbojte. Another fantastic race weekend put together, my friend!! 👍
