RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

Finally got some time to drive this…I've been waiting since last summer to drive this thing…

The Bread Van II-
Well, it's quite a thing to drive. Took it to Eiger Short Track for this test, and my god does this thing stick to the road well. There is very, very little understeer apart from when you get too cocky with it, which is very easy to do when it feels like it has all the grip in the world. It feels like a rally car in a way. With the low end grunt from that turbo and the new, close ratio gearbox it definitely accelerates like one. Add to that the tuned suspension and diff, and you have a wagon which will explode out of corners with unrivaled grace and speed from cars of similar spec. I mean, when you really bury the throttle on corner exit, it just goes. No fuss at all.

It feels composed and balanced, calm and graceful. But don't think it's boring. It just isn't. The back will let go when you get off the throttle, and when it does, just pin the power back at full and watch the rear wriggle free from the 4WD grip before it punches smoothly out of the corner. It's quite something, both effortless and exciting. Fast and easy to drive. A calm and collected racer and a hoon. I was expecting this to be quite a car, but not this much. It's simply brilliant.

Thanks for reviewing The Bread Van II! It's a little gem of a car eh? :P

Yea, I can see why it beat the Evo rally cars back in GT4. Say, do you have any intentions on doing the Bread Van thing again? I can rope Andre in to be the stunt drivers if needs be!

Well, I'm finally no longer filled with a terrible hatred towards FWD cars. It's all because of RKM too. I started looking at the tune for the VTiR, arguably the best FWD car I've ever driven, and started tuning min like that. It worked amazingly too. I thought that I was really getting the hang of it. Until I got cocky that is. I put my Integra Type R tune against Roj's, and his beat me by a good second. With laptimes on the 1:35's at Trial mountain, on sport soft tires of course. I'm currently fiddling with my setup. Mark my words Roj: I will beat your Integra Type R tune!!!

That is all.

Edit: Well, that was quick. My original tune lapped Trial mountain in 1:35.2XX, Roj's
Tune did it in 1:35.160. I combined our tunes and got a blistering 1:34.460! It has Roj's setup for the dampers, Transmission (which was very similar to my original one) and anti-roll bars, with my LSD, Spring Rate Camber, and Toe settings. Our spring rates were similar, with mine being slightly stiffer. Camber was nearly identical, both of our cars had the same ride height (unsurprisingly). My toe setup, however, was waaay different. Your toe setup was -.21 .11 and mine was .15 .10. Now, I don't know if it's one of our driving styles, or if this doesn't really affect the car or whatever the case may be. But I find this very confusing. Anyway, I didn't partake in any corner-cutting shenanigans, in case you were wondering. I think that it can get into the 1:39's with a couple things. A) An LSD tweaking. I'm working on it now. I f worst comes to worst I'll just use my current LSD setup. B) My driving being a little better. It was a much faster lap than I had expected, but I know I can drive a little better. So, what are your thoughts on this Roj? I'm a bit confused on the whole front toe thing. mind explaining it a little? The two setups drove similarly, so I don't know why our toe setups could be so different, with both cars being very fast.

The Evolution R is a bit understeery on sports tyres too. It's more suited to flatter tracks than Trial Mountain. For that I would use the red NSX tune, which is more suited to bumps. But hey, it might just handle fine on a wheel. If not, I'll retune it since I'm not happy with it.

And I guess I can test your setup. It would give me some insight into how you drive too.

Do an F40 so everyone will stop harrassing me. :P

Have you had a chance to test out my tune yet for the NSX R? I sent it to you in a pm.

Nope. Eiger is no Capri. :(

Personally I think it's just you being able to tune for your own driving style now. The idea with these setups is to take them and tweak them to suit you anyway, so it's unsurprising that you managed to knock half a second off by changing a few things.

Or maybe it's the age of the tune showing and I should get it back in the workshop.

The difference between -0.21 and -0.15 toe is minimal really. Although perhaps GT5 sees it as a big difference and the additional angle in the toe is actually causing more resistance which in turn slows the car down a bit.

I got the PM, I just haven't had a chance to even play GT5.

I'm glad to hear you say that, because I've been trying to learn to tune, and it's working well. I guess since I don't have a tuning garage is why I find it so surprising.

Yeah it is pretty old. It's still my favorite FF though. I can't believe I found one better than the VTiR.

Actually, it was positive .15, not -.15. That's why I'm confused, because I'm pretty sure that's a somewhat large change.

Roj's lambo aventador works fine, put it on racing soft and its an easy win. Also prob his F1 tune would be ok, Dragon's Nissan GT-R N24 Schulze Motor Sports detuned to 650 would prob own it aslong as you dont go up against the BMW F1 gtr

Yea. :( It was huge fun to drive on in GTPSP, even though I couldn't hold a slide for the life of me in a 86SS.

Err……Bread Van of the Eiger W Trails?

Bread Van of Toscana? (Even though I despise the custom tracks ) Or Mt.Aso? Mt.Aso is pretty shmexy ;)
But it's not Capri! It's not the same! :(:(:(

Ah. In that case I'm stumped too. I usually get worse results from positive toe angles.
fuuuuuuuuuuu

I cant beat the last race of the seasonals! i need a decent 650pp tune! :embarrassed:
Yeah like Ryan said, the Aventador is an easy win. Also Dragon's R34 TC.

Well, it's working for me, that's for sure. Slower turn in but faster overall.

Yes, the R34 TC is amazing. I'd write a review but I don't have time now to do it.

Ah. I prefer my tight turn-in so yeah. :D
will the street legal Lampuhkap version win too? i mean, just boltons and your diff and suspension setup?
Not a chance.

How come yours has got white stickers on it? Mine are black?

Depends on the colour, I painted mine Midnight Purple III to match my other (top secret) R34 800R tune, which is actually the thumbnail there :sly: I think it just depends on how bright the colour is...

Mine was red when I got it and I've painted it Spectrum Blue Metallic and the stickers have stayed black so you can barely see them.

I have no idea then...and the Aventador seems quite slippy on racing tyres for some reason, presumably because it's not set up for them...the R34 TC is though :embarrassed:

I tried the Aventador and didn't do well in it at all. It just seemed really slippery in the corners?

On a wheel or DS3? It's too grippy on DS3 for me. Still won though because SSR5 isn't a difficult track.

Mine is tuned for racing softs! My word, do I have a different set of physics to everyone or something?

My NSX-R Proto LM Road Car destroys the competition in the 650PP races if you want to try it.

Any plans to release it?

Also I should mention that I've ordered Skyrim and it'll arrive next week. So no new tunes from me for the next 200 years.

Very strange. I'll have to experiment with a few colours, had to go with white for the minute though! (I don't have the purple that you used so can't try that one)

I'm using DS3.

That is weird. When I use it on DS3 with racing soft tyres it just sticks to the road with some power-oversteer in 1st gear.
I haven't used it anywhere else yet, only SSR5, but after reading what everyone has had to say about it, I was surprised at how it appeared to handle. Perhaps its just because I was going too fast/pushing to hard to try and catch first place? I'll try it elsewhere and see what I think.

Just tuned the R34 TC so will be running that in the seasonal in a bit!

EDIT Damn, forgot to add ballast to reduce the PP!

Maybe, but usually if you push too hard it just understeers more. Have you double checked the settings and everything?

Nope, partial loss of power to some pixels thanks to solar flares :D

So does mine, it is a scary scary car!

Nope, our regular one will do for everyone else :sly: mine is teh specials!
