RKM Motorsport - Tuned Tuners - May '13

The comments in this review are what I experienced during my testing; they may not be true for you but were for me during my testing. This could be due to driver experience, controller (wheel or ds3), and driving style.

Dragon’s 1M CSL vs. Roj’s S13 Silvia

Time to blow the dust off some of the older tunes and put them in a testing shootout, I tried to get two cars with very similar pp. and drivetrain setups, with a quick look these are the only two cars I could think of. So who is the master of cars… the Germans or the Japanese? A car that is over 20 years old... or one that is barely 5…. Let the testing begin!

First up is Dragon’s BMW 1M, I took it first to Trial Mount. All I have to say is, man is this car stable, you can bring the car to its limits and it still asks for more. It has a tad bit of understeer but I am going to call it safety understeer. You never fear that you’re going to run off the road or go spinning off somewhere. It’s a great car for grip racing and time attack in my hands it posted a 1:35.673. On Top Gear Test Track it was still stable as a rock. Again only a little bit of understeer and that was only visible really in the tighter corners like Hammerhead and Chicago it posted a 1:17.526. What a great little car. I do wish it had a bit more play in the back, which is just my driving taste; I kind of like to get the ass to shake a bit.

Top speed 169.4 mph
0-60 mph 4.154
0-100 mph 10.058
¼ Mile 12.728
1 Mile 32.082

Roj’s S13 is a great car, **** in my book anything that revs up to 9k is good, but… to me it’s just lifeless… This car is much more stable than the 1M but not in a good way. For my driving style I like a bit of play… and this car has almost none, you really have to push it hard to get anything “fun” (being ass moving, drifting that kind of stuff) out of it. I have no doubt it’s faster than the 1M on the track. It’s a great car for a beginner who wants to go fast and look great doing it. On Trial Mount. It posted a 1:36.557. Now on Top Gear Test Track much of the same took place, the S13 is as stable as they come. You can find and stay on the driving line no matter what the corner in this car. On Top Gear Test Track it posted a 1:17.875.

Top speed 167.8 mph
0-60 mph 4.342
0-100 mph 9.623
¼ Mile 12.762
1 Mile 31.762

Final Thoughts

Over all these cars were great they both drove very well. I would say the BMW 1M is more of a driver’s car and is more fun than the S13, wish they both were a bit more tail happy but that just personal taste. The BMW will get you around the track at quick speeds and make you work a bit for it, but not too much. The S13 on the other hand, I feel is like a GTR just without the computers, the car is set up so nicely that any idiot can drive it fast. Don’t take that as a bad thing, it’s not, the car for me is just a tad too focused for my taste and doesn’t let you have any fun with it. Both were great cars I would rather just have the BMW. I will say with a more experienced driver the S13 could beat the 1M on almost any course.

@Dragonthing did you get the 🤬 Alfa?

I think it actually got sent this morning finally:drool:

Tuner Comments:
Oh look a French car. With a V8...hmmm. This here be the Batmobile GTbyCitroën Race Car, and it is ready to rock. With it's turbocharged V8 producing frankly silly amounts of power and torque, and a 7-speed gearbox, this is a surprisingly fast French car from the people that gave us the Xsara Picasso and the C2 Pluriel...

One small thing...use the gears wisely, it would take a lot of game-changing to make this car pull away without shredding it's tyres in second...
You've got 0.975 as 7th gear but it only goes up to 0.957. Just a typo?

So, basically...I has a new friend! The original '94 Impreza WRX STi, looking sharp, sounding amazing...it's all about the rumble! :D

Wooo! The original Rex is always the best, eh? Apart from the 22B and the Type C '04, which I prefer. :P

22B is...clumsy, and the Type C is overrated and looks blobby compared to the original and the best! :D

I took the ZZII tune out for a spin today, will write up a proper review later when I have time, but it is surprising... in more ways than one.
Did it throw you a birthday surprise too early?

Thanks for the head to head! :D I do agree that the 1M is more of a driver's car. Also it's on a better platform so it can get away with being fun while still being fast. Give the S13 any hint of oversteer and it'll take it as an excuse to drift. I think the problem with my S13 has always been that it's tuned for tracks that only exist in certain parts of the forum (like the touge tracks the LotS guys use) so it ends up feeling too stable and boring on any of the GT original tracks. At least it isn't like my S15, which is complete and utter 🤬.

Still? It's been Spec II already for ages and it's still the little 🤬 it was? There is only one solution. RJ! Guess tune tiem!

And FYI, I was running the S13 tune on my Rice-Dragging S13. :D

The S15 is just a terrible car for serious driving. And the RM is no faster than an RX-7. I like the S15 as much as the next person, but it's not a racing car.

Even when you do the wrong thing and use positive ride height to get the most grip from the thing?

It's more for drifting, isn't it? As is the entire Silvia series.

I've not done that because it looks stupid.

Yeah pretty much.

Try it, and then make the entire thing look stupid to fit it. You'd feel better after making a car look like a total dog, trust me. Look at how Nomis relieved himself on his F40 when he finally tamed it!

All of them have tyres taken from a Fiat Panda.

But I like the S15. :( It's not an R35 where making it look stupid actually improves the look of the car.

Then think of it this way. Function > form, so it'll look ridiculous, until you see it surge pass you with its +10 ride height and epicz camber.

Hurt Onboy123.

No! I WILL NEVAR DIE!!1!!!!11111

But I'll always be hurt. :(

How about epic rear toe then? Just for fun, set it to 0.40. I drove a ricer35 GT500 stealth online, killed myself 3 times with default settings. Set the rear toe to 0.40+, raised it to scary heights, beat a 'proper' (Read as worse) R35 TC.

Seriously injure Onboy123.
Heal Ricer35.

You can't heal cars that are already in the dead pile. :sly:

Now re-testing the NSX Evolution R. I have decreased power from 460hp down to 438hp as prescribed and now rolling on sports hard tires. I will give this set up an entire week to warm up to on flatter tracks with a DS3. Will report my results in 5 days or so cause i need to get used to the DS3 again.

You should use sports softs for that one if you want to stay true to the tune (so to speak). Hards are just going to spin all day long, which is why I didn't tune it on hards.
