Err, why are there invisible instruments in half that video? Completely ignoring the fact that there are 3 Kurt Cobains on stage towards the end...

The song list for the Beatles Rock Band

Soundtrack

The game includes 45 songs (including "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "With a Little Help From My Friends" as separate songs that join into each other) from twelve of The Beatles albums recorded during their 1962–1969 tenure with EMI Records.[14][56] With the exception of Magical Mystery Tour, track information is based on the United Kingdom-released versions of the albums. Six non-album singles and the mashup track "Within You Without You/Tomorrow Never Knows" from the 2006 remix album Love have also been included.[57] Selections of the soundtrack are under license from Sony/ATV Music Publishing Company.[48] Though Michael Jackson, who owned 50% of the publishing rights to The Beatles songs through Sony/ATV, died in June 2009, any potential estate sale of those rights will not affect the songs or the release of The Beatles: Rock Band, according to Harmonix.[58]

Downloadable content

Additional songs will be available for the game as downloadable content. This includes full albums; the remaining songs from Abbey Road will be released for the game shortly after launch to eventually be followed by Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Rubber Soul.[13][62] The song "All You Need Is Love" will also be among the first batch of downloadable content, proceeds from which will be donated to Doctors Without Borders.[48] The song will initially be available as a timed exclusive for Xbox 360 on the same day the game is released.[19] It will later become available for the PlayStation 3 and Wii.[63] While there is potential for the entire catalogue of the band to be made available, such a situation would be "stretching it a bit", according to Harmonix' John Drake, and that future content will likely be initially focused on "rounding out" the catalogue.[32]

The respective downloadable content for The Beatles: Rock Band and other currently available Rock Band titles (including Rock Band, Rock Band 2, and Rock Band Unplugged) will not be cross-compatible.[64] Furthermore, the songs contained on The Beatles disc are not exportable to other games in the Rock Band series.[65][66] Harmonix's Chris Foster cited the game's new vocal harmony feature as well as the unique song-specific dreamscape animations as reasons for the lack of exportability to other Rock Band games.[29] John Drake of Harmonix stated that the developer had a responsibility to treat The Beatles' songs as "an iconic catalog", and keep its music separated from other songs.[64] Both on-disc songs and downloadable songs that were originally recorded when The Beatles stopped touring will include dreamscape sequences.[36]'

In an early interview, Dhani Harrison suggested that it could be possible to deliver music from The Beatles members' respective solo projects as downloadable content (using George Harrison's The Concert for Bangladesh, John Lennon's Imagine, and "Live and Let Die" by Paul McCartney and Wings as examples).[67] However, when asked if any of the solo projects would make an appearance as downloadable content, Foster replied that, while there have "been no announcements about that", the solo acts are "definitely not the focus of the game".[29] Drake further identified that collaborative songs with other individuals associated with The Beatles, such as Ono-Lennon, Billy Preston, or Eric Clapton, will not be made available as additional content, though does not rule out the possibility of such songs appearing in other Rock Band titles.[32]

Songs will be priced comparable to other Rock Band downloadable content: All individual songs are priced at $1.99 (160 Microsoft Points/200 Wii Points) and are available for download through the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live and the Wii Shop Channel unless otherwise noted. The first album to be released as downloadable content, Abbey Road, is priced at $16.98 (1360 MSP) as a whole.[62]

I finally beat dyers eve and War Ensemble on expert in Guitar Hero Metallica. It was a crowning moment and i nearly lost on Dyres Eve thanks to sweaty hands.

I'll be picking up GH5 sunday :)...

Well, I was iffy on The Beatles: Rock Band and contemplated it as a rental before any kind of purchase, but all the advertising this week (Best Buy had four pages devoted to The Beatles in their weekly ad) has suckered my wife in and she said that she wants it and will buy it with her free money.

Quick note: My wife is buying a video game.

So, it looks like after her next paycheck I will have The Beatles Rock Band.

And now, for your entertainment, I give you the trailer for Guitar Hero: The Beatles. It is a blatant fanboy parody, but enjoy it for what it is.

Picked the game up today and played for 4 hours straight with a friend, then came back later to show it off to my dad and ended up playing another 2.

Most fun I've had with a video game in a long, long time.

From,
Chris.

I saw you playing it last night and felt jealous. I should have my copy next week when my wife buys it.

So, is it worth all the positive reviews?

Also, in case I am not the only Jonathan Coulton fan here, Jonathan Coulton not only has three songs in Rock Band as of today (Still Alive, Skullcrusher Mountain, and now Re: Your Brains), but he is the first musician to have Rock Band Network songs. He showed it off at PAX by putting his song Future Soon (A personal favorite) into Rock Band 2 on an Xbox 360 and playing it. And he says on his blog page that he plans on putting out a lot more.

I am still trying to find out of the PAX Pack this year is for charity like it was last year.

Also, if you support Jonathan Coulton for no other reason, do it because he gives a lot of his music away for free and the stuff he sells is done so with a Creative Commons license, meaning you can give a copy to a friend as long as you don't change it or sell it.

I like Coulton's work and how he handles it, but his music is far too acoustic for my DLC tastes. Anyone who doesn't play guitar is left out in the cold buying his songs.

And singing. Don't forget the singing. I haven't since my left arm has been temporarily out of commission.

Honestly though, if he is putting his own stuff in through Rock Band Network he might level it out a bit.

My only issue with him being used to show off how RBN will work is that perhaps having a self proclaimed Code Monkey isn't the best example to show average musicians that they can do it too.

Freezepop is the only thing I didn't buy last night.

The instant a developer/publisher uses sex to sell their game, it tells me how much real effort was put into it. I know this is a mild case, but even so, thats low.

So just for clarification. I have Guitar Hero World Tour and Guitar Hero Greatest Hits, when I get GH5, I can import songs from those games, so I don't have to keep swapping disks, but for a price, and only some of them at this stage?

35 songs from World Tour are all that have been confirmed.

Is there anyone else who is getting GH5 as their first Guitar Hero game? I'm a little worried because i want to buy GH:WT DLC to play in 5, and yet i'm not sure how i could import the DLC if i don't have a save file for WT...

Any ideas? Am i speaking gibberish?

I think they're still working on licensing for the other ones so they should come later (so I hear).

I wonder how that will work...will they require us to re-enter the manual code once those new songs are licensed, or will they download automatically, what?

I got The Beatles Rock Band last night. I stayed up playing till 2:30 last night, made it to Abbey Road. I can't wait for the DLC to come.

So you burned throught the game in one sitting? hope you got your monies worth.
No, I haven't finished yet, I just stayed up that late last night because it was soo fun. Just having the songs so clear on the game makes it worth it anyways.

Guitar Hero 5 is pretty fun, although i have no feeling of being in a band doing the career mode. Just playing songs. The character costume options for a human character are lacking, but i basically expected that. I've managed to make a decent looking character but it creepily looks a lot like Pako. Which is especially funny because i prefer to play bass.

The characters still don't look "right" playing the songs though..they look more robotic than musical. I also don't feel the groove so to speak when i'm playing, especially on drums. Not like i do in Rock Band 2. Having more than 1 type of instrument in a band sounds good on paper, but seeing only the 4 characters on screen playing guitar/bass just looks dumb. They really couldn't always keep at least a singer and drummer on stage?

Besides that, there are a few touches i do like. The fact that if someone quits during a song you don't fail the song (at least when a third or higher person quits) is nice. And the motions the singer does, like putting his mic back into the stand during breaks in the vocals, are pretty cool too. Reviving failed bandmates is also fairly easy...you just have to play well and they'll be brought back an infinite number of times.

I'm having a lot of trouble finding people online though. Guess they're all in elementary school when i'm playing.

I got The Beatles: Rock Band Tuesday night and finished the Story mode last night (netting the trophy for completing Story Mode within 24 hours of starting it), and now have to go through the challenges to finish unlocking everything.

It should be noted for fans of the music games that The Beatles is obviously intended as an easy entry for new players to the genre who are only in it for The Beatles. Easy difficulty also creates No Fail Mode, and a full difficulty rating is equal to maybe a 3 or four star difficulty rating in Rock Band 2. Nothing in The Beatles approaches the similar difficulty of 5 stars or five pentagrams. However, it does have the modifier to speed it up, so you can make it more difficult for yourself.

So, while veterans can adjust the game to their skill level, in the end this game is not primarily targeted for them. It is targeted to The Beatles fans. The visuals are stunning and unlocking informational tid bits with photos and videos (like the Ed Sullivan Show rehearsal or them preparing for Shea stadium) along with the studio chatter between songs is amazing. The production value is off the charts and I now understand why this had to be standalone without compatibility with the rest of the series. This could not be done with the current setup of any of the other games in the genre.

So far I have only played guitar and bass and I imagine drums may be a bit more challenging. In some cases, a lot more. I look forward to doing the vocal career too.

But I hope that soon the DLC will start flowing because my wife seems to think that the lack of Hey Jude is a disaster. She still enjoys it more than regular Rock Band/Guitar Hero because she knows more of these songs (I can't help it that she's never heard of Boston or Rush and her The Who knowledge doesn't go beyond CSI's theme song).

I'm having a lot of trouble finding people online though. Guess they're all in elementary school when i'm playing.

I'll probably get GH5 tonight, we'll have to all organise a jam session. I have always actually had trouble playing online in GH:WT, I think it's my time zone, never seem to be able to find a game.
